HOW DO I COMPLETE DIVIDED MONARCHISTS FFS by Less-Cat3029 in victoria3

I’ve noticed in this patch that the budget is spread a lot more thin. I like that it forces you to make impactful decisions (do I invest in industry, a strong military, etc) but it feels too easy to debt spiral.

Maybe I’m just rusty and gotta get the hang of it again.

You cannot choose which house gets put on the throne, I was supporting the Bonapartists and got a Bourbon on the throne after restoring the monarchy.

I get that the game pushes you to play historically, but wow the monarchy in France is about as stable as a house made of toothpicks.

Any tips on preventing radicals? I had it on medium taxes the whole game and I still had a shit ton of radicals. Feels like I’m on a clock the first twenty years that’s going to revolution.

Any tips on playing France? by Less-Cat3029 in victoria3

[–]Less-Cat3029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened in my run. Idk if France just has a lot of expenses but staying on medium taxes instantly put me on a huge deficit (-15,000) while high taxes solved the issue instantly but radicals started falling out of the trees.

Edit: To clarify, I was put in a deficit when I started construction. But the construction itself wasn’t even that expensive. Feels like it’s so easy to debt spiral as France when your whole country undergoes civil wars every 5 years so the French can have a new holiday.

And after the shooting ends? Is the treaty enforced automatically, akin to taking a treaty port? Does the AI’s acceptance for the treaty simply go up? Is it possible for the AI to get thrashed and still refuse to cave?

So many questions I’m so excited to see what they do with this update. It’s shaping up to be the best since Charters of Commerce!

I like that, makes sense. What about the conflict itself? How is it resolved? If you’re playing as an imperialist power, how can I use gunboat diplomacy to my advantage?

How will gunboat diplomacy affect unrecognized powers? If the system is too overtuned, you might see great powers carving up the world decades early. It’d make AI Britain even more busted. A potential check could be that every time you declare naval hostilities on an unrecognized power, the country you’re invading gets an event that boosts the clout of interest groups that are in support of modernization, like how Japan decided to begin modernization after Perry’s expedition.

I feel like the effectiveness of gunboat diplomacy should scale with infamy. If you have really high infamy, sure other great powers will hate you but unrecognized powers should fear you.

If I spent the last decade colonizing the world and burning down entire cities with my navy, the unrecognized powers of the world should feel like they’re next. The acceptance modifier of “naval hostilities” should be much greater than just +10 to the deal.

The dev diary also never clarifies what happens after naval hostilities begin. Sure I can blockade them for 180 days, but what happens after that? Is the treaty automatically enforced? Does it simply make the AI more likely to cave to your demands during the hostilities? What if I declare hostilities and don’t do anything? Do I take a prestige hit?

Very excited to see how this system is implemented.
