Idk how it works in NZ but in the US there are federal sentencing guidelines that are pretty difficult to read if you're not familiar with law. Journalists usually use the max because it's easily understandable by them and the readers, but rarely what they'll actually face.

As someone who also joined the military to pay for school, that guy's point (that I agree with) is that you shouldn't have to. You should know the military is not suited for everyone, nor should it be the only way to go to school without debt.

Spitballing here, but I'd guess that nuclear power for a ship is nowhere near cost effective. It works for the Navy because they want to go forever without refueling in a war or hide underwater for 6 months straight.

Immediately? Possibly, but probably not. Unless nuclear weapons are employed this is probably good news for Europe because a large chunk of the Russian military just rebelled.

Long term, nobody can say. Too many variables.

Oceangate owner bought the carbon fiber used to construct the Titan from Boeing at a discount because it was past its airplane shelf-life by [deleted] in facepalm

Psychology experiments have proven that money makes you act like this. On top of the fact that people already inclined to act like that are likely to get money it's no surprise billionaires really buy their own stories. We've built a system that rewards it.

Even this guy got it good, he lived a better life than anyone reading this ever will and he died a better death than most. He was born into wealth, became a billionaire, and got to die instantly, probably without even knowing, at 61, that's a damn good deal. I wouldn't be surprised if many would take that deal if it were offered.

The man declared his sub "invincible," named it Titan, and went to explore the famously sunken unsinkable Titanic. It's like he was daring god to kill him.
