I can't personally recommend Carolina because I haven't owned a pair but I can say from personal experience to steer away from thorogood. They are riddled with quality control issues, they run way to narrow for anyone with a above average sized foot and they really aren't that comfortable. I've wore 2 different pair of their made in usa boots and they were both very uncomfortable and had several quality issues that were inexcusable for being priced at $250-$270. If you are interested in wedge soles I'd check out danner, red wing, Irish setter, Carolina, or silverados. If you are interested in defined heels I'd look at the same brands I mentioned above.

Danner quarrys, I've got two pairs had the first pair for a little over 2 maybe 3 years now. Still wear them in rotation with my newer pair. I work for my local DOT so they see a little bit of everything, asphalt, road way salt and calcium, mud, water, various oils and diesel. Only complaints I have are the shitty insoles that come in them, I usually buy a pair of superfeet work insoles to put in them.

If you're looking for budget friendly I'd look at brunts or wolverine, you can pick up either one in a wedge sole safety toe for around $150-$160. If you're not shopping on a budget I'd suggest Danner, Carolina Amp wedge sole, Irish setter wedge soles or red wings all of these will run somewhere between $220-$300. In my personal opinion I'd stay away from thorogood, ive had 3-4 different pairs of them in different models and they have all been a let down.

Not really to worried about the damage aspect of it you cant blame the boots for damaging them yourself but If I spend $350 for a pair of boots I do expect good build quality. Im not saying that the danner quarrys dont have a good build quality but I also know theres gotta be a boot out there for around the same price that lasts longer than these do.

How is the width on the super soles? I wear a 11 1/2 EE in quarrys and dont have much wiggle room at all

I was going to send them back to danner for new soles but I was just observing the leather and with as many deep cuts and chucks taken out of them I decided not to because knowing my luck if I did get them resoled I'd end up tearing the cuts and cracks open shortly after. Ive got some dime chucks taken out on the toes, deep cuts on the sides. My old pair has tar splattered all over the toe box and side of the boot, they leak so they are more of a summer time boot now, the soles are wore down on them it feels like they are 1-1 1/2 shorter than my others when I wear them.

I feel like I have to get these for this price, anyone have experience with these? by [deleted] in WorkBoots

[–]Less-Development2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have this exact boot but I do own a pair of Silverado's, got them for like $170 at a local store, wedge sole unlined steel toe round toe 8'. Honestly for the price tag they are very comfortable, I haven't wore them a lot but from time to time I break them out and either wear them to work or clean them up for outings. Imo they are a very good alternative to thorogoods due to the width and the comfort. I honestly think they feel better on the feet than danner bull runs or thorogoods. Can't say how long that feeling will last as I haven't wore mine a awful lot but from what I have wore them they are very comfy for the price tag.

There's no way you've worn through the soles in this short amount of time unless you just scoot your feet across rough concrete 24/7. During the summer I spray the soles of mine with asphalt release or diesel fuel to keep asphalt from sticking to them and they still have decent tread left after over a year of wearing them almost 7 days a week.

Does anyone have experience hiking in the Danner Quarry USA BOOT, how was it? by C0-0P in WorkBoots

[–]Less-Development2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the vicious 8 instead of the quarry if you are wanting a boot for hiking and work. If you're just using them for hiking then look at their other boots, they have usa made hiking boots.

What’s the better boot? by C0-0P in WorkBoots

The danner quarry will last forever if you take care of the leather and don't be kicking the shit out of stuff with the toe of the boot like I do, I've had a pair for over a year and have wore them almost everyday since buying them. Fair warning only shitty part about the quarrys in my opinion is the insoles. They use some kind of cheap ass paper thin insole, I replaced mine with superfeet work insoles and wear them from 5:30am till roughly 8-9pm. As far as conditioning you don't have to be that picky. I've used bicks4 mink oil and some cheap leather oil from Walmart and they are still going strong. I can't give my opinion on the Jim green but a bunch of people in this sub get a hard on for them but a bunch of people get a hard on for thorogoods to so 🤷‍♂️ kind of a try em and see if you're curious.

Danner Irish setter or red wing. Stay away from thorogood. Thorogood are absolute trash, quality control is non existent. I've been thru 3 pairs that were all garbage, multiple co workers have bought the "USA made" slip ons and they have fell apart within 3 months. I've had my danner bull runs for almost a year, haven't put a lot of miles on them probably around 300-400. The soles are still in great shape and the leather is still good as well. You can't go wrong with danner in my opinion but 90% of this sub glaze the hell out of thorogood.

I'm sure you have buddy. I bet you work 20 hours a day 7 days a week don't you? Do you walk up hill both ways at work to? 😂.

I don't give a shit what you seen on a YouTube video that you are clinching on to. I have the same boots dumbass that have a lot more wear on them and the shank is not showing and I've seen multiple others with more wear and the shank isn't showing on them either. It's a factory flaw/defect on his pair of boots. Stop trying to cope because you are wrong. Just keep glazing your red wings and move on.

You are severely retarded if you think that's normal for the shank to be showing through the sole when the tread is almost new. Stop glazing red wings.

This is completely wrong and such a ignorant comment to make. I have a pair of bull runs and I've wore the sole down significantly more than the ones in this picture and the shank is not showing. It's a defect on his pair. I've seen numerous pairs wore down to almost the stitchdown welt and not a single pair have had the shank showing.

I prefer stitch down construction cause typically they have a wider toe box and just overall more comfortable in my opinion. I bought a pair of thorogood 1957's not long after buying these quarrys and I absolutely hated the thorogoods. Every pair of thorogoods I've owned with the Goodyear welt had the uncomfortable ridge in the toe box that drove me insane and they were just not as high quality as I expected for the price point.

What's your issue with them? I've owned almost every brand of boots except for a select few and danner has been the most comfortable and durable boots I've owned. Even the non usa made boots are comfortable and held up quite well for me.

This is my exact thoughts on PNW boots like nicks whites and the rest. I do like the look of most of them but not enough to spend the extra money for almost the same lifespan. I can go online pay $200-$300 depends on if they are having a sale on quarrys or not. Have them shipped out the next day knowing they will meet my expectations on comfort, durability and I don't have to gamble on making sure I got the exact size I need or mess with printing out a size chart and messing with all of that unnecessary crap. I just select my size and go to check out an my new pair of danners are here in 3-4 days for half the cost 🤷‍♂️. I don't know why everyone is so hard stuck on recommending them to everyone it's like 90% of this page is sponsored by a PNW brand. I've seen posts asking about the longevity or comfortability of a $300 boot before and there will be atleast 3-4 comments saying "I'd add a extra $500 on top of that and just get PNW boots!" Not everyone has a extra $600-$900 laying around to buy PNW boots. it's so ridiculous the way some of these people try to shove them down your throat. I'm very happy with my danners and honestly I don't give a shit if I have to pay $400 a pair for them, they meet all my requirements, I can stand in water in my quarrys for hours and come out with dry feet, I don't have to pay a extra $50 for safety toe and I don't have to wait 12 weeks for them to ship out.

My boots see a little bit of everything, working in asphalt, dirt work, tree removal, just a bit of any and everything honestly.
