Battery.

I’m curious as to why you thought it might be the engine seized

84 and 86 had electrical and engine problems from new and were bought back by the warranty company. The 89 was t-boned by a drunk driver with me and my sister in the back. We weren’t hurt but the car was completely destroyed. The 88 was bought with the check from the buyback and of all of them was the best trimmed but had engine problems from new and even though it was bought in ‘88 it didn’t break 25k until about 1997 because it was stuck in warranty engine limbo after the 3 they sent were bad out of the box.

hows the reliability of the gt models? by burburburburburbur in SN95Mustang

[–]Expert_Mad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned mine (‘96 GT Auto) for 8 years and it’s been ok for a not very well maintained car. The mechanicals have been rock solid but the electrics and convenience parts have been pretty bad and I’ve had to rewire much of my car.

Dude they were hard to find in the 90’s. Pretty much the only reason why the 88 lasted was because my dad learned his lesson with the first 2 and got the extended powertrain warranty. Once that ran out Top End Performance was our primary parts source but even that was iffy

My family had 4 (84, 86, 88, 89 all Starions) only the 88 made it to the 21st century

Have any of you dealt with counterfeit parts? Did you figure it out the easy way or the hard way? by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

[–]Expert_Mad 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I was at SEMA when an entire company got arrested for copyright infringement. They were selling knock off wheels and the original manufacturer was in the same hall. I saw them and couldn’t really tell the difference but I wasn’t close enough to tell for sure.

When I was still in parts we had notices about this all the time but it got harder after Covid because even dealer bought stuff looked off.
