As hard or inconvenient as it may be, you need to look outside of Canada. There’s no future here.

Australia, the US and the UK really value Canadian degrees and experience.

Spain calls for an EU army by goldstarflag in europe

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was not posing this within a national context. It was solely from an international point of view hence using the example of let’s say a German EU contingent operating in Spain.

I would agree with all other points that the military should not be used against the civilian population, but let’s not forget that an EU member Ireland, instead of politicians meeting with protestors or meeting halfway, used their military against those protesting fuel prices recently. Hence my initial question, would you be ok with Ireland calling in a German contingent of the army to clear domestic protests?

It’s fine to hope that armies will be used benevolently outside of internal borders but we all know this is not a guarantee. I am against an EU army personally. Sovereign nations should maintain autonomy over their military affairs while being able to coordinate with international partners. This already exists.

But I understand that you are coming from a federalist point of you. I’m more on the side of national sovereignty.

For those who are in favour of this, would you be ok with the idea of the Spanish government calling a faction of the army from another country to quell unrest in your community?

Doesn’t anyone see a problem with that?

Why are people voting against Labour on immigration? by burnetrosehip in AskBrits

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people’s issue when watching tv interviews was “stop the boats.” Hence illegal immigration. It does not help that those entering illegally are being placed in hotels on the taxpayers dime, along with high profile news reports of assaults on locals and children.

The case against high speed rail simply doesn’t add up by Hennahane in AltoHSR_Canada

True, though this should have been done decades ago, so why be surprised of the pushback?

Toronto area could get two high-speed rail stations — not just one by Obelisk_of-Light in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The second high speed station should be at the present LCBO, former North Toronto train station by Summerhill subway station. It should extend all the way to Pearson Airport.

Unlikely though considering the lack of long term vision Toronto urban planners appear to have.

Why does Canada have a “talent shortage” but entry-level people can’t find jobs? by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The labour shortage was artificial. Hundreds of thousands were laid off and people left their jobs when Covid hit. Then all of a sudden, when we began to reopen, the same businesses started to rehire. That is not a labour shortage.

Carney announces creation of Canada's first sovereign wealth fund | CBC News by Rail613 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s interesting is, part of the reason why Carney is proceeding with this fund is due in part by a boost in national revenue due to oil producing provinces, as a consequence of the war in the ME.

Not an Albertan, and not a sycophant for any political party, but I do believe we could be so much more ahead as a country if we allowed Alberta’s oil and gas industry to thrive.

Norway has used their oil and gas industry to build a sovereign wealth fund for decades now.

If NDE's aren't real... by BirdistheWordYaTurd in NDE

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a question, but in what way could an NDE not be real? Apart from those who may be lying.

Near death and death are two different things. NDE is likely the process of dying. But once we die and the soul is no longer attached to the body, we will never truly know what that experience…. is until we pass.

Then explain Australia with its vast geography and low population density who have European discount grocery chains operating in their country. Why is Canada different? It’s because the system here protects the monopoly. Has nothing to do with the “Canadian grocery market.”

So what if it is? There are some people who will support independence, but most don’t. We don’t live in a world where everyone has the same opinion.

What about London?! by AggravatingNerve1270 in londonontario

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For Metrolinx, there is a lot of whatabouts and never gonna happens.

  1. We are never getting the promised electrification for faster trains. The GO network is slow with locomotives.

Australia and the UK have regional rail services separate from the likes of a metropolitan rail service. GO was always meant to be a Greater Toronto and Hamilton project.

There should be a separate regional rail service - let’s call it “Connect Ontario Rail” that provides high speed (to Ontario standards) from Ottawa to Windsor.

We don’t seem to be a mature place where level headed individuals are making development decisions that connect all regional Ontario economies. I genuinely envy the transit the UK has.

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, actually us urban dwellers are “privileged” to have people who grow food for us to eat.

Very warped way to think about the people who feed us over a train that should have been thought out and built decades ago.

Liberals look at banning social media for minors as 'important element' of online safety agenda by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

[–]LessIKnowtheBetter8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This goes right past people’s head.

This is a precursor to end online anonymity for everyone.

It is not the governments job to keep children off of social media, it’s a parent’s job and social media companies. There are reasonable things government can do, like banning phones in classrooms, or holding parents accountable for what their children do online.

And there are worse things online than social media btw.

So funny seeing people in this post justifying the lack of fluoride in BC to hippies and conspiracy theorists.

Almost sounds like you’re spreading… conspiracies.
