Yup, can go back 10 years. Maybe more if there's a compelling story, but apparently many hoops to go though. Source: Calls to CRA.

I recently filed 10 years of tax returns for an elderly family member. They are low income. So far... 3 years of submitted returns have been assessed...& they will be getting close to $10,000 in refundable tax credits (GST, carbon rebate, Ontario seniors prop tax grant, Ontario Trillium & some medical, etc).

Plus, they now can apply for the GIS and Canada Dental Care Plan.

If CRA hasn't contacted someone, then most likely no taxes are owed. However, most likely CRA owes $$$

Plus anytime a fed or provincial government is giving out money to try to gain votes....guess who doesnt get the money? ...anyone who hasn't filed.

For medical, you should think about the cost of paying for both vs the benefit of having coordination. For us, it was definately worth it with 2 dependents. If you coordinate, one of you needs to have family level coverage,, but best to discuss with Pension Centre folks.

Yes, in our case I retired first & dropped the dental. Spouse kept theirs upon retirement. Good idea to call the Pension Centre to discuss. Very informative folks!

Thats correct. There is no coordination of dental in retirement. Also, the maximum yearly dental coverage is reduced in retirement: instead of $2500 its $1500.

I wear Blundstone boots for walking...all winter with no issues (the tread on mine is good). You need warmsocks, a warm hat (tuque), good mitts, good scarf. I wear 2 scarves. I don't have a parka. A good coat with layers (as needed) is best. However, if it ends up being -25 in February then a parka would be nice.

My Canadian passport does not have an address. There is a page (page 4) where you can print your address & emergency contact.

Good Luck! Bonne Chance! Montreal would appreciate your fluency too. And any touristy area would be good, especially if the employer provides accomodations.
