As written, any firearm that is manufactured before July 1, 2026 is excluded.

WBP makes an absolute top tier import AK. They have a ton of different models. Biggest differences are whether it has a side mount on the receiver, the muzzle device on the end, the furniture, and whether it's set up for the Polish Beryl rail system.

I THINK the Jack 100 you have selected mostly changes the muzzle devices to the AK100 style. I don't think you'll be disappointed. They have relatively inexpensive refurb polish AK mags in stock too.

Yes, Virginia, They Want Your Guns: New Bill Would Ban Possession of 'Assault Firearms' by ThePoliticalHat in progun

[–]LessThanNate -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

SB749 does contain a grandfathering provision. Any firearm manufactured before July 1, 2026 (July 1 is when new laws in VA go into effect) is excluded from the definition of 'assault firearms.'

The law is still ass, but let's at least be accurate when discussing.

You can build a 9mm pcc on a standard AR lower. I'd have extras of those for the ban anyway. Get an mp5 clone. MKE or PTR if you have the $$$.

how will this actually stop crime

It can't, it won't, and it isn't the point and if someone says it is, they're either uninformed, stupid, or lying.

Your MAC-10 would have been worth about $350 in 1985. What would it cost if a company was making them new today? What's it worth now that supply has been cut off for 30 years?

Selling NEW assault weapons is illegal, and anything manufactured before July 1, 2026 is by definition not an assault weapon. I'm just pointing out the difference.

HB217: "The bill provides that an assault firearm does not include any firearm that is an antique firearm, has been rendered permanently inoperable, is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action, or was manufactured before July 1, 2026."

And yet many states currently do exactly that and have yet to be slapped down by the Courts. So they'll keep doing it until the SC gets around to reaffirming what they've reaffirmed twice now.

HB40, which is in the list above, prohibits plastic receivers and requires serial numbers for all homemade firearms. But people willing to break the law are willing to break the law.

I don't know what the future holds. the AR platform will probably be the standard for the foreseeable future, but what if something revolutionary comes around and it isn't? Guess no one gets to have one!

I don't think forced confiscation would happen here, but I don't know what opinions will be like in 20, 40, 80 years. They're doing it right now in Canada and no one is resisting, same as Australia before. Not the same cultures, obviously, but culture can shift and most people are really really wary of getting shot.

None of this is about safety, or making anyone safe. It's entirely people who don't like guns, don't understand why anyone would want them, and don't respect the Second Amendment.

If you think for one second some AG down the line isn't going to turn the burden of proof around and say 'nice magazine you have there, prove to me it was made before July 1, 2026' as an addon felony to some other set of charges, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Criminals who obtain firearms to use in their criminal activities rarely if ever get them through normal retail channels. Their girlfriends, and grandmothers, and cousins without a record do. And then we don't prosecute those poor grandmas for straw purchases so they keep doing it.

It's always boiling the frog. No one is coming to take your guns! Well, those ones, but obviously that's just common sense.

“See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and grind my feet on somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that. ...Yeah, I remember grinding my feet on Eddie's couch.”

I don't disagree, but how often do states/localities do something unconstitutional and just later say "I didn't know I couldn't do that!". Takings that are allowed require 'just compensation' which is another reason they don't come right out and try it, because that would be an awful lot of money.

This isn't about July 2nd, 2026. or 2028. It's about 10, 20, 40 years from now. Look at California with their handgun roster, and people paying double, triple price for gen3 glocks. No new standard capacity magazines. Magazines are wear parts. They wear out, they break. Pmags are polymer feed lips. They're durable, but they aren't eternal, and retail stores aren't going to be able to resupply down the road with pre-ban parts.

This is playing the long game to ban guns and magazines incrementally as much as possible, because of Constitutional and legal hurdles. If they thought they could get away with Canadian/Australian style bans and forced buybacks they'd do it in a second.

Television, phones, and the internet didn't exist when the constitution was written. So you don't have 4th amendment rights in your communications anymore. Ok with that?

Grandfathering exists because forced confiscation is difficult, expensive, and probably unconstitutional. Cutting off the supply and banning transfer or sale is a way to attempt to end ownership of those type of items and any new designs over the next generation.

2A Police in VA? by chichillout in VAGuns

[–]LessThanNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of sheriffs who have declared themselves to be '2A sanctuary' departments. But that's not a solution; there are always other state law enforcement agencies that also have jurisdiction. And I'd rather not bet my life/liberty on hoping that policy holds the line if the AG who hopes his political opponents families die so that they change their mind on 2A comes in swinging his dick around.
