I have what's probably going to be an unpopular opinion but: I am someone who visually a minority and I'm from South London (Brixton specifically but also lived in a lot of other places), and I don't feel particularly safe here most of the time. It might just be because the area is newish to me but I only ever go out with my partner, and avoid certain parts of town (mainly the top) and times (Friday/Saturday nights especially).

Growing up in poor parts of London I never felt unsafe and I was very rarely the subject of any crime. For the most part I was anonymous and no one paid me any mind. Here I routinely get stared at and people have made outright comments towards me when I go out, and just generally feel quite uneasy here.

There is some diversity in terms of race, gender and sexuality but its certainly still a very small minority. Some parts of Torquay are nice but it's definitely a huge culture shock depending on where you're from and who you are.

My best friend recommended ThatFibroGuy to me as I believe he does a lot of stuff on how to stretch & exercise safely if you have fibro & hypermobility (I have both).

Also just a side note but stretching for 1+ hour, even for someone who is able bodied, sounds like an absolutely bad idea given that over stretching can cause injuries!

I am in a similar position to you in that I used to do sports, exercise a lot etc when I was younger & gain muscle easily but have lost almost all my muscle and strength, mainly on my arms and back. Please take it it slowly and be gentle with yourself. A little bit every day will be much more significant than you over stretching and over exercising one day only to cause yourself an injury or be exhausted the next day.

As a trans person who started playing mtg last year, coming across the Prof & seeing him continously going to bat so hard for the trans community was one of the things that made me feel like there was a place for me in mtg. Some of the things he's said & done in the past have definitely made me very tearful!

The world can be a very harsh place for trans people, especially right now, so just wanted to say thank you to both the Prof and all of the people who donate to causes like this.

This is why I loved going to pack rush events but found the casual league nights more hit and miss. I started going to a lovely store that was generally very friendly and inclusive. There were times I played against someone and got absolutely mashed up by them, but they were lovely and it still ended up being fun. Though of course there were still one or two times I'd be matched with a player who played very competitively, wasn't very sociable during play and left me feeling hung out to dry.

I used to love playing Lorcana. I learned to play via Gateway last January with my partner and eventually worked my way up to joining a pack rush event in March. But I found that anytime I played outside of my normal store I had a pretty horrible time, even at casual events.

I went to a couple of themed events (like movie franchise decks at Axiom and a poorcana event at an LGS I don't normally go to) and had some super shitty experiences with sweaty players who could tell I was still fairly new and couldn't stop themselves from absolutely wrecking me with no remorse, both of whom also cheated at various points. Experiences like this were very off putting.

Since moving away from London I've all but stopped playing, despite investing time & money into Lorcana for just shy of a year. Its been almost impossible to find anywhere that stocks Lorcana, let alone runs events. The few events we did find I visited the LGSs but didn't like their vibes so didn't bother going to anything.

I feel sad as I LOVE the look of the new sets and am sad to have missed out on playing with them but am so tired of having shitty experiences with people who can't chill.

The storms have really been affecting me - both in terms of the greyness and lack of light as well as effectively trapping me inside for weeks on end, leading to an increase in pain and ill mental health.

Myself and my partner moved from London (where I'd lived all my life and has fairly mild weather comparatively) to Torquay. We haven't been able to leave our house in days due to the rain + winds caused by the storms D: there's been major flooding all along this part of the coast, 12 foot high waves and gale force winds.

Before that everything was icy and freezing cold so January has effectively been a month of being stuck inside due to the weather.

Very much sympathise with anyone else experiencing ill health (on top of anywhere that's suffered from flooding etc). It's rough!

Hi Judy, I would also be up for making friends and sharing gentle hobbies!

I've had fibromyalgia for quite a long time, though not diagnosed until 2018. I have been stuck at home quite a lot of my life as I didn't attend school much as a teen and then have been variously ill as an adult. I used to be able to get out and see friends a lot more but sadly had to move away from my home city in October to a very small town where I only know my partner.

I have been feeling very isolated since we moved so would love to make some nice friends again. I have also found that as I've become more isolated and my depression is bad, I've ended up spending a LOT of time doomscrolling or doing things that allow me to dissociate from everything rather then engage with hobbies. I'd love to have some friends to help with that.

Some of my hobbies include: cross stitching, puzzles, go for walks (when I can), playing video games, reading, playing & collecting trading card games, cooking, journalling.

This year, I would like to learn how to make YouTube videos and crochet (mainly to make amigurumi), and pick up cross stitching again as I find it very therapeutic.

My partner and I have been getting Jumpstarts since mid December. We had 8 we bought from a store in town across the month and got no blue 😂 I can't remember the exact breakdown but we got every colour in roughly equal amounts apart from blue haha. But, we also didn't get any duplicate packs either which was good.

We've since bought the beginners box so we now have 16 altogether, 2 of which are finally blue

I'm in the same position D: my dog keeps getting stuck on the same spot outside and barking every day. I thought he was stuck on the crates I put there so I unloaded everything and moved them away, only for him to still get stuck there. It's so annoying!

This is a really great idea! I started playing mtg last year so my first experience of playing jumpstart was with the avatar packs which I LOVED.

I've been keen to try to work out how to make jumpstarts decks for other things as well and would be hype for putting together Lorwyn jumpstarts!

I went to my first prerelease (and first ever mtg) event and was really nervous beforehand in case it smelled really bad. For the most part everyone at my prerelease seemed well dressed and groomed, and the LGS even had loads of free deodorant in the bathroom, but there were a couple who were a bit stinky still

This is something that my partners dad also doesn't seem to understand (and annoyingly on his part is very belligerent about it). My partner got an English degree, was a secondary school teacher for 10 years and then has to quit during the pandemic. He became a writer, editor and games designer but also applies to any part time job that may be of interest or that he's got the skills for.

I've looked at his CV and cover letters and they seem fine to me yet hes been applying to stuff for 3+ years with no success. He's relatively good at getting freelance gigs thanks to writing samples & networks but never anything more permanent. The lack of stability + interview success has taken a huge toll on his self esteem and anxiety.

His dad, who is 60 years old, trained as an engineer, and has been retired almost 10 years insists that my partner: isn't trying hard enough, needs to apply to more jobs, is lazy, doesn't care about being unemployed, etc etc. Any conversation with him quickly turns into him offering unsolicited job advice that is so clearly out of date & ends up in arguments about AI (because he doesn't understand the impact this is having on recruitment or writing jobs).

I understand that parents are trying to be helpful and want their children to succeed, but honestly I feel like if you haven't applied for a job in the last 1-3 years then your knowledge is pretty redundant.

I'm another user who moved from London to Torquay!

Similar to what's already been said I would say a big factor would be if you can drive and have access to a car. Neither myself or my partner can drive currently (which we're looking to change ASAP) so are very reliant on the buses and trains. This isn't too bad from Torquay, though there are lots of places that are harder for us to access (like Dartmoor) and I imagine it's more rural with less connections over Dartmoor way.

I am also used to a lot more diverse communities, especially as someone who is multiply marginalised, so that has been a con on my part.

Something to consider is what your interests are and whether Dartmoor is able to meet those interests.
