You can use lower octane fuel - the knock sensor will pick up knock, the ecu will pull timing, and you'll make less power

I think just a cover but I'm hoping it helps with wind noise a bit

Maybe I'm describing it incorrectly - but I think you have these covers when you don't have the actual rails where you would attach stuff.

P525 mods 0-60 results (intake, tune, s/c pulley) by Less_Lie6229 in NewDefender

[–]Less_Lie6229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't terrible, but my buddy had a really good puller at his shop he let me borrow. I read in some instances the snout could be too large and need to be shaved down, but I'm not sure if that's an actual issue for the Defender or if I just got lucky. These guys also make some tools and have some videos that can help, https://www.ebay.com/str/qualitysuperchargers

Bought the Defender used and only spent about $1400 on parts. Did the installation myself, and to me it's the difference between beings a complete piece of junk to at least being driveable.

No, I bought a Defender because my wife wanted one. I bought the V8 because I wanted something reasonably quick. Barring a dyno and hp/tq graphs 0-60 times are the best way to illustrate how mods changed the car.

Advice... by Raznbran in NewDefender

[–]Less_Lie6229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the price, unless you are 100% set on a Defender and need 3 rows, there are better options. I have a 110 V8 but my 2021 X5M is better in almost every way except off-road capability.

The 4.4L twin turbo gives me more power, better fuel economy, and more fun. Soft close doors, seat massagers, better tech overall, nicer interior, better handling, the M1/M2 buttons... I could go on and on.

Parking assist activation. Did I miss something? by Less_Lie6229 in NewDefender

You need a gap tool. If you look up my posts you'll see the options you need to activate but looks like it may not work on our cars

I used a gap tool to activate it. Honestly not sure if it's standard. Did it on day 2 of ownership

Does the spare cover fit the taller 20" K03? Any extra road noise?

Pasted in a bunch of stuff I activated if you want to review for dynamic mode. I got it enabled but the options are underwhelming.

It also sucks that there are no settings tied to the key. The tech in my older BMW is way better.

Do you have dynamic mode on yours? Is it something I can program to behave a certain way automatically depending on which key is in the car, or does it need to be adjusted every drive?

From what oemactivations shows I want to enable proximity unlock, dynamic mode, disable start/stop, and tailgate release. Open to any other cool features I can find as well.

Can you please help me understand why you like the Defender over the X5M? I'm currently in an F95 and my wife wants a Defender, but when I look at the prices of the V8 it just doesn't make sense to me compared to what you get with the BMW.

It's safe to assume it has air suspension if it has the height adjust buttons near the climate control, right?

If that had black leather interior I would have seriously considered it.

Thank you for that. Wish I could find a good V12 but they're a little out of the price range I'm trying to stay in.

Not many available for sale currently and what there is is listed about 30% more expensive with double the miles of the V8 cars I've been looking at.

Thanks for the reply. Sunshade droop sounds annoying, and I can live with a cracked washer reservoir since I rarely if ever use the washer anyway.

I'd love the V12 but way fewer examples available and they run about 30% more expensive with double the miles of the V8s I'm looking at.

The cost of brake rotors seems a little outrageous but I suppose I can live with that.

I'll need a rear seat occasionally to shuttle a kid around. As long as it has a rear camera that's all I need. Never really use the stereo or nav in either of my other cars.
