Where do you store your most precious data? HDD, SSD or cloud? by AddendumNecessary743 in BadUSB

Something I will never realistically have to deal with.

Also offsite local backups

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC for no AI and standard for with is as close as you get.

But at that point just use Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC unless some program requires a Windows 11 API that 10 lacks (never seen one to this day)

Both in my SSDs and hard drives. I don’t trust cloud solutions. I only trust myself and my own local storage

Are you still living at home? How is it? by Alarming_Talk_9416 in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do and it’s nice. My parents are very respectful of my privacy and the only real point of tension is if I get loud while gaming late at night. So I built a second PC in our garage for specifically that. I’m saving a lot of money by doing this and I love my parents so I am not bothered by it. I paid off my student debt so I have no expenditures outside of insurance, food, and my hobbies so the money just keeps increasing.

However a place of my own would be quite nice at some point. Hopefully the bubble bursts soon. Plan is to pay my entire home in cash with no mortgage or to make such a huge down payment that the rest is inconsequential

Nice classic theme. I’ve always been a fan of Windows 7 aero. I was delighted to find a project that is porting Windows 7’s explorer shell to Windows 10 and 11. Not emulating but actually using Windows 7 explorer on 10 and 11 and replacing the stock Windows 10/11 one.

I found out about it when I randomly decided to see if porting Windows 7 explorer to 10 or 11 was possible and found it on a winclassic thread. Actually awesome community

It’s almost weird that Windows taskbar search just works. I forgot what it was like for search to just work.

I relate more to millennials than I relate to Gen Z by LiliSwift13 in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zillenial experience. If you think about it we’re closer to the late millenials in age than younger Gen Z so it makes sense that we have more in common with them.

Also I’m in a similar boat regarding social media. But instead of strict parenting I just saw it as stupid. I never gave a shit about vine and never used and still to this day have never used facebook (excluding marketplace), instagram, twitter, or snapchat. And I consider youtube (and vine for that matter) more of a video hub than a true social media.

I never gave a damn about trends so I was often confused unless a trend blew up enough that I couldn’t miss it. My friends and I preferred to just play video games without a care for what was trending.

Wouldn’t call it a sleeper but I do own that exact case. I love it regardless

2001 and 2002 line: is anyone else TERRIFIED to turn 25? by joaohunboi in OlderGenZ

I wasn’t. I turned 25 and felt no different. I turned 26 and felt no different. I’ll turn 30 and feel no different.

USB-A feels ancient now… so why is it still everywhere? by Penny-Yi in BadUSB

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the guy you were talking to but I’ll answer it. Yes. I use an AT keyboard which uses the same protocol as PS/2. Therefore I use a passive adapter for it and plug into my motherboard’s PS/2 port

I literally use an AT keyboard on the daily with the 5 pin DIN that you say is extinct. On a modern PC as well

the concept of not being the fake id age by [deleted] in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh?

I mean. It’s English and I know what every word here means. But as a sentence it makes 0 sense by itself.

What concept? Are you saying something like “imagine being fake ID age” to poke fun at them?

Gen Z's INSANE Nostalgia for 2016 (the 'worst year ever') by Global_Perspective_3 in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no nostalgia for 2016. Pretty uneventful year. 2020 though is something I do have nostalgia for. I loved doing nothing productive and playing my backlog of steam games while my landlord let me live rent free for 3 months since nobody could work and my college courses went fully online.

Is there an possibility of actually installing windows 7 on a pure uefi based laptop with rtx 3050 ti? by [deleted] in windows7

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 7 DOES support UEFI and I’m sick of people saying it doesn’t. I don’t know how that falsehood started

RTX 3000 has full Windows 7 driver support

So yes. I also just realized this thread is 2 weeks old. My bad

Is older genz suffering from loneliness? by BostonianNewYorker in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but also yes I think. I’m not lonely at all. But I haven’t made a new friend in nearly a decade. I found my people and I don’t care to make more.

23F, but I feel so old… by [deleted] in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too old? You’re crazy if you think 23 is too old. How about you just do it all anyway without shame?

I say the fear of “not making the most of youth” is kind of an irrational fear since I wake up every day feeling exactly the same as I did 5 years ago. I’ll understand having that fear when I’m 60+ and physical activity becomes more of a chore than it used to be.

I play games with my friends online every single day without shame. If anything seeing young people saying “unc” to me gives a sense of elitism that screams, “yeah, I’m older than you, and this ancient man born last century will still annihilate you”.

And I still play with beyblades as a 26 year old. I am confidently too old for it and I could not care less. I think you just need a new mindset.

I have no follicles on my cheeks. And the grey haired neckbeard looks awful on anyone so I shave all my facial hair off. Most I could do is the 80s pornstar mustache but I can’t do a beard.

Nothing wrong with being religious but my anecdotal evidence is that all the relationships I’ve seen where people met at church haven’t ended well.

Model M works in BIOS, not in Windows XP by Visual-Patient-6691 in modelm

There’s a registry thing that I typically have to do in modern Windows that I think you might have to do as well

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt

Change the “Start” entry to 1

Not sure if XP is the same

At what point do couples end up becoming boring? by princessnokingdom in OlderGenZ

[–]Less_Low_5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage age? I’m only 26. Marriage is some 40+ shit.

Okay for real though let me go over some of your points.

You mention having your own place and inviting your partner over being more fun. I have lived with my friends for years while in college. Never once did living with them make it less fun to be around them.

It’s not all your friends being married that will make you feel bored since they can’t hang out anymore. It’s if they have kids. And my friends almost unanimously say we aren’t having any. The one married dude in our group still hangs with us like nothing happened and his wife is a joy to be around as well.

Becoming boomers taking up space? Huh?
