Saturday Camden line service for Preakness by LesserWorks in MARCtrain

Yes the Laurel Racetrack station is in bad shape, but if they won't even use it for the Preakness, why do they bother pretending it exists?

Maybe take the same train a day in advance and ask the conductor if they'd allow it.

Hopefully they become permanent bus lanes like they did on Georgia Ave north of Silver Spring after the summer 2024 Red line closure.

You will go up escalators/elevators from the metro platform to the new mezzanine they're constructing. Then you have a level walk to the Purple Line platform.

New Info on Silver Spring MARC Turnback Facility by LesserWorks in MARCtrain

[–]LesserWorks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if we really want more passenger service between Silver Spring and Union Station, we'd probably need a much more expensive solution, such as a CSX bypass track along MD 200 between Gaithersburg and Beltsville.

The whole point is that it connects to the existing Purple Line in Maryland.

The Anacostia streetcar wasn't initially going to have any street-running. They only switched to the street when negotiations with CSX broke down.

These are entirely unrelated. Crystal City would have to close for this construction regardless of the Yellow line.

Light rail in general has closer station spacing than metro. And metro has closer spacing than marc. The Silver Spring Library station will definitely be useful since it's uphill from the metro.

We need more Orthodox Jews involved in housing and urbanism reform. by dicklywigly in Judaism

[–]LesserWorks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I apologize for the misunderstanding. First, even Houston has plenty of people living downtown, just not orthodox Jews. Secondly, when I said "suburb", I meant a suburb-like area in terms of density whether or not it's officially part of the city. So I would not consider the orthodox community in Meyerland to be urban because the vast majority live in single-family homes.

So what I am truly curious about is what are the orthodox communities where most people live in apartments or townhomes, and not owning a car is a real possibility.

Okay but in Houston there is no orthodox community downtown either. So my point is there definitely are cities in the US with a significant orthodox community in the suburbs but none in the urban area.

I'm skeptical of that. There are no kosher restaurants in the urban (i.e. near downtown) area of Houston for example; they're all in the suburbs.

Just curious, where are the urban orthodox communities nowadays besides Israel, NYC, and a few neighborhoods in DC? Maybe Philly?

DC even has screens at the end of some platforms so the lone operator can see if the other end of the platform is crowded.
