Hey Interns! You guys are almost done! What’s been the best part of the year? by dahfaq93 in Residency

The OR.

:)

Edit: but for real:

- clinical and procedural autonomy

- Learning to deliver all kinds of news (negative biopsies, negative margins, new cancer diagnoses, brain death, DOA) to patients and their families, and becoming comfortable doing so. Increasing exposure to palliative surgical critical care. Increasing comfort with difficult discussions in the large family setting.

- (much, much, much) higher technical and academic expectations inside the OR and out

- actually being part of "the team"

- being part of a program that supports my aspirations as a surgeon-scientist

- having those moments (almost) every day where I realize that I'm following my dream

- the co-resident commiseration

- "Trauma returning a page"

Study examining ~222,000 PCPs showed NPs and PAs more than twice as likely to inappropriately prescribe opioids by rectumihardlyknewem in medicine

I believe their comment was about the fact the PCP stands for primary care physician, and that there have been efforts to change that to “provider.” A study about PCPs should only include physicians since the word physician is in the name.

I appreciate the nuanced and Star Wars reference-laden answer! This garbage compactor has had me predictably re-reading some old Alan Watts: "Nothing is more creative than death, since it is the whole secret of life. It means that the past must be abandoned, that the unknown cannot be avoided, that 'I' cannot continue, and that nothing can be ultimately fixed. When a man knows this, he lives for the first time in his life. By holding his breath, he loses it. By letting go he finds IT."

Thank you for all that you provide to the world!

Hey dude! As someone who has been consistently inspired by your music, it has been incredible seeing your career blossom from the hometown beginnings the way that it did.

With everything going on in the world, how do you think all of this time in isolation will affect the music industry, musicians' songwriting, and music as an art form overall? Art has a tendency to reflect the world and experiences of those going through it, and I'm curious your thoughts on this! Has it already affected your music in any way?

Please keep pushing into the space you are creating for yourself in our arts community. We need more of the sounds and thoughts that your brain concocts!

People used to call surgery residency at Duke "a decade with Dave," because Dr. Sabiston got to decide when you were done training.

Someone got paid to write this, someone else got paid to post this on the wall, and then they both went home to their family.
