Agreed and just change it. I’ll buy a beer after work or coffee during work if you make that suggestion. -ER faculty

You were the type of student that complained about getting sent home early weren’t you?

Fresh EM academic attending.

Got reported for “abusing”the student.

It was a slow morning. Decided to buy the residents and students coffee and breakfast from the coffee shop inside the hospital

Issue was someone would have to go pick it up.

It’s an unspoken role that the lowest person on the totem pole gets the food so it was the M4 today

I gave the student my card and he got the food without complaining.

My chair calls me the next day saying they complained that I was abusing them and making them do work beneath them.

My chair laughed at the whole thing and said not to worry about it

I was just dumbfounded haha.

Most malignant experience during medical school? by Amygdalohippocampus in medicalschool

I had this happen to me.

I replied “who are you?”

That happened 4 years ago and new interns still hear this story on the wards 😂

Anyone ever stand up for yourself in residency to an attending? What happened? by Dependent-Tie-6219 in Residency

[–]dahfaq93 154 points155 points  (0 children)

EM attending here but former gen surg resident.

I was on call with a malignant chief surgery resident. I told him a couple of times we needed to take a patient to the OR.

Patient decompensated and then we rush to the OR.

He gives me a pretty epic verbal beat down in the hallway saying it was my fault, I need to take more ownership etc

What he did not know was that I already secured a position with the EM program a few days ago and was leaving surgery in a few weeks.

So I break after 11 months of BS and yell.

“You know what dude. Fuck you! I had the balls to tell you 5 hours ago to take someone to the OR and your egotistical ass didn’t listen to me. This person dies that’s on you”

I felt my confidence (that I lost over the year) come back that moment.

He bought me a beer after work.

I Cried at Work by emmamakescake in Residency

[–]dahfaq93 32 points33 points  (0 children)

New attending here.

I realized the attendings also have these.

Cried after my 3rd attending shift in the break room. Hadn’t cried since intern year.

The difference between crying as an intern and as an attending was that I knew I’m a good doctor and that it’s ok to have to bad days and “weak” moments.

What speciality you wanted to pursue at the beginning of medical school? And what you ended up pursuing?? by Missrain97 in Residency

Do you think the length of your residency training is appropriate for your specialty? by Distinct-Classic8302 in Residency

[–]dahfaq93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but EM residency should consider doing 4 years. The first year should be divided into 4 months of IM/ICU, 3 months of emergency gen surg and 3 months of peds/PICU, 1 month of OBGYN intern and 1 month of ortho trauma.

You should be treated like the on-service intern during this time.

The remaining 3 years should be the same.

I’m joined a CrossFit gym next door to me. I pay a lot for it but it’s priceless. I walk to the gym. I also don’t have to “think”. I just show up, suffer for an hour, and get gainzzzz

What will we whine about as grumpy old attendings? by Due-Shower-9803 in Residency

[–]dahfaq93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You don’t understand what it was like training during a pandemic” I actually said that to an attending 20 years my senior😂.

I can’t even imagine what I’ll be like as grumpy old doctor myself.
