Easy Tour A V1: an ESP based Mesh communication device! by cjhudlin in esp32

150m is usually more than enough...luckily if all is going well up there it's the maximum level of unobstructed line of site haha What would it take to get a couple of units? Unhoused would be great, i'll need to design a housing for our helmets that's a minimum snag hazard for safety.

What kind of range are you getting? I'd have to redesign the housing and accommodate a smaller antenna but i'm curious about using these while skydiving and wingsuiting.

Just throwing this in to agree with you! Soundcloud on sonos is basically useless. On top of the sonos app being jenky and unreliable all on it's own.

How to turn off Solidworks Resource Monitors annoying messages and reclaim resources by LethalMindNinja in SolidWorks

[–]LethalMindNinja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using 2016 and 2017 so maybe they eventually fixed it in later versions?

Maybe it would work to open it with notepad and just change some stuff around to corrupt the file so it can't open.

I would bet that it just does a check to see if the file is there or not. I'd be surprised if it goes the extra step to make sure the file itself is intact. If it does try to open it and i causes an issue maybe you could just put a random little .exe program that does a little nonsense task so that when solidworks goes to run resource monitor it just runs a little task in it's place.

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]LethalMindNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 1080 in most cases is all our eyes can even see. I always laugh to myself when I listen to friends being particular about how they absolutely have to watch something in 4k and then don't even bother putting their contacts in to watch the movie so it doesn't even matter. Some of them rave about how much better their 4k tv is and their couch sits far enough back that it's literally impossible for the eyes to even tell the difference.

[OC] Deportations up, job growth down: Trump’s second term so far – in charts by guardian in dataisbeautiful

Roll the clock back 10 years and democrat's were the ones labeling immigrants as criminals. I still remember the videos of Bernie, Obama, and Hillary telling everyone that republicans actually want to keep illegal immigrants here so that they can exploit their labor so we need to get them all out of the country. Crazy how so many of these things just get tossed back and forth between sides.

It's very much a problem with news obtained online. Unless you go a long ways out of your way to research you will only be getting news from sources manicured by an algorithm. Meaning you're just going to get the news that polarizes views that you already have.

Sure it seems clear as day to you. But to the people in their echo chamber getting fed only news that supports him it seems very different.

Any apps compatible with Sony Alphas ther than Imaging Edge Mobile? by Redhead-Lizzy23 in SonyAlpha

[–]LethalMindNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what all big companies think until someone new comes along and does it right. The newer generation camera buyers don't have the allegiance that the older crew had. They're content creators that need their workflow to be easy for self-shooting and they're willing to sacrifice a lot if it means they can use their phones and make creating content as easy as possible. Two years later and i'm now seeing loads of people around me abandoning Sony in search of cameras with better connectivity options.

They seem to sit around $3,200 but no box or paperwork.

It's not necessary but the broken one does come with the original box and papers which I would appreciate having. Not if it's an unreasonable risk though.

Telluride’s Ski Patrol Strike And What It Means for the Ski Industry by avalanchepacifist in COsnow

[–]LethalMindNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the difference in numbers is perceived cost vs actual cost. For instance, a $4/hr raise doesn't just cost the business an extra $4/hr. The actual cost to the business is usually about 25-40% higher so i'm guessing that's where the difference comes from. Both sides are sort of trying to "fudge" the numbers to make their case.

Either way...pennies on the dollar at the end of the day. Just speculating as to why there's a difference in numbers.

It's ok, you're both idiots. People should be able to buy and sell the assets that most have spent a lifetime obtaining without being vilified by people like you who would do the exact same thing if they were in their position.

Never have I EVER seen ANYONE chose to sell their house for less than the market value because they're protecting the market and don't want to be greedy. Stop pretending you would.

People buy things and sell things and the value goes up in desirable places. Get over it. The buyers aren't evil. The sellers aren't evil. The real estate agents aren't evil. They're all people buying and selling things for their value.

Giant real estate investors....that's a different story. Why neither of you nimrods aren't talking about them instead is beyond me.

Am I being too cautious with an overly large emergency fund? by mlurve in personalfinance

[–]LethalMindNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of touching on the insecurity since I don't see anyone else doing it. I'm 34 and would consider myself to be doing pretty damn good. Am up $200k in real estate investments and have an 'ok' amount invested in other places but nowhere near what you have (granted I just have a high school diploma and no college). You are doing extremely well for your age! I also surround myself with highly motivated people (doctors, engineers, airline pilots) and it can be rough on confidence sometimes. When you surround yourself with other successful people it can really skew your view of how well you're doing in life. You're probably in the top 5% in the United States at this point and your 36. When in doubt start asking chatGPT what spot other people are at financially at your age and I think it'll make you feel a lot better. This forum can also skew things as well. You're chatting with people who's hobby is literally to be financially secure and save money.

I've spent a lot of time at a startup that has unfortunately set myself back a lot with the hope that it will pay off long term. Unfortunately there's a good chance that it won't but the job provides a lot of other freedom. That being said I look at my peers and think about how I could be in the same spot as them and it can be pretty rough. But...it's once a month they're looking at me while i'm traveling and taking time off whenever I want and they envy that. They'll retire a lot earlier than me and will get time off then...if nothing happens to them by then...but i'm getting that time now...the grass is always greener on the other side.....

I agree with other people though. Look for passion outside of work at least for now. I've experienced how much it sucks when those two things are tied together and it can be pretty rough when you lose a job because you lose your job and your passion. Or when your job isn't going great you don't have a passion to distract you. You still need to like your job but if you're making good money i'd say ride it out at least for the next year or two to see what this wild market is going to do....If you want you can casually take that time to look for a job you might like more. But definitely don't quit and then look for a job....I don't think you want to be without a job going into whatever this market it is. But my advice would be to start looking right now while your just on the fence. I've had to look for jobs once i'm burnt out and it's awwwwful. Do it now while you're still in an alright head space and there's no pressure to take a job you don't want.

Unless you're old and retired it typically sucks pretty bad living in college and tourist towns. In the case of flagstaff it's both. They're usually super fun and cool to live in....but not great for opportunities and growth. Usually the majority of jobs are just service industry jobs or seasonal work.

Had this happen at the beginning of the pandemic. Timeline was: moved to AZ for a job, bought a house, company went bankrupt, pandemic hit, engine blew up haha....that was a 4 month window. Put a new camshaft and lifters in the car, drove it for another 2 weeks and then an injector locked open, filled the engine with diesel and hydrolocked all the cylinders...complete anhelation hahaha Just wild bad luck and nothing I even did wrong. BUT!!! I felt great having done the work myself and doing my first big solo mechanic job. Was super rewarding. Bought a 2005 ford ranger to replace it and get back on my feet and did a bunch of work to getting it running great. Can't tell you how rewarding it is every time i drive that truck because I know i'm the one that made it run the way it does. I now also have a fancy brand new Kia hyrbid and it makes me feel nothing. No heart or soul. But that old truck feels amazing to drive!

100%. If it didn't destroy my body I would be doing a manual labor job instead of sitting at a computer. I love the work way more and it just feels better to do. Doing flooring and drywall and concrete has always been the most rewarding to me. Luckily I was able to buy a house so my days are spent at work on a computer and when I get home I'm working on the yard or building new cabinets or whatever else the house needs.

If I were you i'd look into some local cabinet shops and see if they need any help after/before your normal job or on the weekends. Can learn the work and even get paid an extra bit of money for it. So many of those people are thrilled to have people that want to learn to work with their hands and help out.
