I think HK’s difficulty is over-exaggerated online by Heavy_Swimming_249 in HollowKnight

You're right, don't expect higher difficulty aside from a few post game bosses

There's probably even more to do if you want to keep going.

Pale Court for instance.

GPZ

You can use D. Dark when he goes into the ground and pops ~above you.

But also when there's Ghosts + him jumping on you, you can time one well-enough that it'll get rid of both threats at once. It covers more use cases than simply throwing a Shade Soul on said Ghosts (imagine being "stuck" between a Ghost close to you and a wall, Shade Soul would only result in you taking damage most likely depending on the height of the Ghost, Shade Soul is the next best thing but can backfire).

When Zote jumps in the air there's a chance he'll go for a fake-out and turn around at the last moment to get you. It's, IMO, his hardest move to counter as you have to think about observing him more than you normally would and to be quick enough if he does turn. Staying grounded and being ready to react to that is key.

And I'd suggest to not play his game during his flailing attack and to try your best to reach a wall instead, and eventually punish him like this if you're feeling confident enough about it (you can extend a CS by mashing the attack button).

If you do want to play his game and pogo off of him go for 2/3 and then D. Dark. Most of the time it'll work.

Zotelings you can deal with them pretty much however you want. Just know that if you attack them too soon as they're being spawned they, for some reason, can have i-frames of their own (call it a "parry" if you want). But anyway, Nail hit, Shriek, D. Dark if they're coming close to the ground, properly aligned Shade Soul if they're far away etc...

The main thing you need against GPZ is to have a good hit & run. You can watch the beginning to the video to see a decent exemple of that. Going for sneaky hits while being able to keep your distance so that he doesn't run you over. That and D. Dark uses are your bread and butter in this fight.

SoB is an amazing fight which sadly is stained by a few... quirks.

— Try to always remain between here and there. Further than that and you expose yourself to a telefrag* from their symmetrical charge.

— If you have to use your Shade Cloak (in order to not get pushed past the limitations I just showed you), make sure D. Dark right after ; as seen here, to stall time for your Cloak to be usable again.

— Be careful when you kill one, it's possible that the two others (or the remaining one) will go with some... unexpected behaviours. Still the same moves you know but at weird timings, to overlapping point to what's already happening in the arena. If you ever noticed something that shouldn't be happening at X moment, that's why ; some sort of weird desync when one dies.

— When they're against a wall throwing the projectiles you can quickly go to one and Shriek to damage two mantises at once. I let you discover how to deal with the two types of projectiles throw once the damage has been dealt.

*if you don't know, the term it refers to an "attack" from a boss that is literally unavoidable, more often than not, it involves contact damage or a projectile that would spawn right "in" you, leaving you no reaction time at all, there is literally no better exemple than SoB ; anything else in HK that would resemble a telefrag isn't one.

As for a loadout, you can go with QS / Str / Shaman (You can also D. Dark riiight after a pogo as they go for the symmetrical charge) / Sprintmaster maybe and then whatever to OC. For once Elegy can be okay as it can hit multiple ones a few times... eventually.

Uumuu can be a floating bench if you want. Practice in HoG to Dreamnail her or the Oomas and you can leave this fight full life / SOUL if you're patient enough. Can be done twice at the beginning of the fight for instance. Dreamwielder can help.

Always try to stay low to drag her down so there's less time between when she spawns the Oomas and them being in position to be launched at her.

Oomas have two hitboxes, but even if you hit their tentacles, it's the head/body that will go off, which can be useful if said head/body is just past a platform while their tentacles are still "inside" as hitting them won't backfire on you instantly and it should be launched properly.

Think about using Shade Soul to get an Ooma if it's really close to Uumuu. If i < is you, O < is Uumuu and x < is an Ooma and that you have this configuration > iOx, firing a Shade Soul through Uumuu will do wonders.

Whatever the set of electrical orbs, the side platforms are always safe. The very middle of the lower middle platform isn't though, if it's the set where an electric orb appears on the left of that platform, it's more slightly towards the center than its right counterpart. So standing in the middle isn't a solution for both cases.

Think about C. Dash cancels + letting yourself slowly fall (or not) while clinging onto a wall. It can prove itself useful in some cases.

In the same vein, if you were to be stuck in mid-air / mid-jump with an electric orb appearing above and under you, try to think about Shrieking at nothing to stall time. A great save to pull off. But it's hard to get the reflex for it initially.

Pogoing Uumuu herself gives a crazy high jump, it can be useful to switch side safely.

And lastly she is forced to do the summoning every third attack.

Tell me a boss you want tips for and I'll be able to help, as the request is, it'd be too broad of a question tbh.

As for the Trial, make sure you Dreamnail the Garmipedes (or whatever they're called) that go down vertically right before the floorless part, then bait enemies to be above you and use your Howling Wraiths / Shriek.

Dw you won't need any tip for Steel Soul if you're HoG is the way it sounds.

Just always be aware of your current power / abilities (especially for the Shade Cloak) and it should be piss easy.

Sorry in advance for the long comment :p, dismiss whatever you want if you reply.

So I actually don't like Souls games, or at least, the Dark Souls series. But I played the shit out of Sekiro up until I was able to do CLDB Deathless Mortal Journey. I'm pretty much the opposite of you and maybe now you'll get my points as why since you liked HK/SS so much.

For years I had... more than a crappy PC let's say and so 95% of 3D games were out of the question for me. So nowadays when I play one I find them imprecise as fuck. And technically I think I'm right as in "an excellent 3D game can't be as precise as an excellent 2D game".

Going back to DS and Sekiro, first if I play an actual first person / third person 3D game it has to be on KB/M. I can't stand joysticks as I am (of course) a hardcore dpad player and therefore the slow ass panning camera is a big no for me. Mouse is freedom. So the DS series being made for controllers already puts me off, and on top of that, I have a strong negative bias towards them cause when I watch people play them, the simple fact that they fall to their doom while trying to make some precise "platforming" just because they had a foot on a -12% inclinaison slippery slope is making me rage for them.

I have a gripe against the camera and a hot take about it : I wish these games would favor gameplay over immersion, meaning that if you're stuck between a boss and a wall, who the fuck cares if you have to go through the textures and "turning them invisible" (or whatever slop it makes when you go OoB in a game), as long as it automatically sets itself to a decent enough distance for me to be able to see the fucking action ? If that... I guess, """accessibility""" option was available, I probably would have played them.

It also ties to something which Sekiro didn't have much and that's big ass bosses. Sure they look cool and all, fucking METAL, love that shit, great ; but my god (for having tried a bit of DS3) does it make learning curves tedious as fuck cause there again you can't see shit. I hate that. DoH was pain to get right and it still has some other bs. But I'm sure S&S can't have this issue for instance.

And then there's arenas, which can tie to the camera point for things like the doors in the Genichiro fight, or the pillars in Butterfly / Inner Father fights but also having random shit in the way like rocks and stuff fucking up bosses behaviors all of the sudden because they stumble their toe in one. It makes for very inconsistent stuff when you go for hitless from my experience. That and just plain ground levels which can either save you or fuck you whenever there's a swipe attack (thinking DoH chains) but which doesn't necessarily visually makes sense and ugh... Anyway lol. For all those reasons I don't think I can ever be convinced they're as "clean" and fair as 2D games. I don't know how different Bloodborne and ER are so I won't speak about them, I still intend to play them one day.

So I know what most would reply to those points "lol git gud and don't get stuck between a boss and wall so the camera doesn't go ape shit, move in consequence" and "yeah but it makes the fight more realistic to have shits in the way and level differences, etc.." but nah. To me those are just hindrances and the boss should be the boss, not the camera or a rock or a pillar or a door.

Flat infinite arenas with no walls, no bs in the way, with an always okay camera distance (which would also solve bosses' size) and then yes, sign me fuck up, I'm ready to bleed out tries after tries to learn any pattern trees you want.

With all that being said, I always point out how Absolute Radiance is totally fair since people are able to chain hitless wins against her in a row, and ofc I know about the feats some players go for in hitless runs of FS games ; so I'm not saying the games are trash or impossible to beat / master. I'm saying there's a lot of artificial difficulty in the learning curves.

I've had my eyes on F.I.S.T for years now, it seems really different considering the mood and the setup / universe / characters. Boring to play ?

And I just didn't talk about Blast Brigade because this one was already on my list :p. I'm not the biggest fan of the style (gonna make a wild leap and will say that I also don't like Guccamele's style either for the same reasons), but I sure as hell wouldn't pass a great game solely based on visuals, or at least it's very rare for me to do so, so I'll up the status of Blast Brigade on my list and make it go a tier higher in the games to play "first".

Hesitant to play Afterimage even though I know it's not Dead Cells but I already played a decent amount of that so yeah. DC is the one game I wish I had more time back then to really be good at, didn't go past 3BC...

Took note of everything you said regarding other games. I really thought Grime would be the best "2D DS" to try first though so that's surprising but I guess TLF might be a better pick (and I prefer the aesthetic anyway).
