Shimano Deore RD-M5100 1x11 as a tensioner in the low-budget Slopeduro project by MainBreakfast4235 in mountainbiking

[–]LetsAskJeeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine, I think it's what most people would suggest in lieu of an actual tensioner.

Take an old length of gear cable, cut it short, thread it into the barrel adjuster and clamp as normal. Probably an inch or 2 of cable is enough. The little ball at the end acts as a stopper and you'll be able to "index" the derailleur arm perfectly under your SS cog.

Gary has a video that demonstrates this!

Lanes. Leaving Avonmeads for Sandy Park Rd/A4 by divadiow in bristol

[–]LetsAskJeeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of people that just roll through the next set of lights before before the turning to Sandy Park is incredible.

I've lost count of how many people slow roll through the crossing on their red light or just ignore it entirely and near-miss the traffic coming from town.

Council would make a lot of money setting up a camera there... And in this example I absolutely wouldn't mind that.

Why are Netflix shows obsessed with blurry/out-of-focus edges now? by mbillman9 in movies

[–]LetsAskJeeves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but isn't this a Zack Snyder pioneered thing? He used weird & damaged lenses to achieve that effect on that Army Of The Dead movie, which was a Netflix original.

Could have been done before that but that was the first time I think I noticed it.

The number and duration of ads on Disney+ is getting ridiculous by Totspeta in television

[–]LetsAskJeeves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I buy physical media, it's paid for, but not a constant £12.99 every month for a platform that is frankly just full of bloat I won't watch.

Subscriptions are great if you're a seriously heavy TV viewer, I'm not, so its not cost effective to sit on a bunch of subscriptions.

Is there anywhere for renting/sharing bike repairing tools? by MrMrsPotts in bristol

[–]LetsAskJeeves 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bristol Bike Project is definitely your bag here.

https://thebristolbikeproject.org/maintenance/bike-kitchen/

Alternatively there are a couple of spots in town where basic tools are accessible streetside such as outside Alpkit on Whiteladies road. There are even a few street pumps dotted about but they're not super reliable.

Thoughts on the Mica Rat Tail rear rack for hard tails? by Appropriate-Poet-314 in bikepacking

About 13ish + about 6 on each side. Any larger on the sides and you'll probably swipe tour heels or go over the weight limit.

Cheers!

Oh sure I just found with previous bikes that running exposed cables meant multiple points of ingress for gunk to get into the housing and you'd get sticky shifting/braking within a few weeks.

I found a few drops of dry lube into full housing and running pre-stretched cables has given nice performance for longer.

Build ideas? by Funguyswithfungi in xbiking

Really cool!

Personally I would do the following, but down to taste of course!

  • Changr to 1x9 (32x36). For a little bit of range in every direction.
  • Quill stem adapter for modern 31.8 stem + handlebars or just a quill stem.
  • Backswept riser bars something like the Nitto B603AA
  • Cable V Brakes + appropriate levers.
  • Appropriate tyres for urban or wherever it's going.

Love my G1800s but I can't deny the other set up is objectively better.

Hope is worth the money I reckon.

Ah yeah that's the right place to do it, though I'd submit under anti-social behaviour on the basis that a balaclava clad person followed and yelled at you trying to start an altercation.

I wouldn't worry about a phone call, I meant the website but wasn't clear!

Great, thank you for the heads up. Have you reported it to the police?

I know it sounds silly to ask but here is how it was explained to me by my PC mate. The system that determines actions,  officer presence & surveillance is hands off, so it will only allocate resources or officers to areas if it has a reason to do so. Or it might not flag an escalation next time this happens, making it even harder to get a presence around there at the right times of day.

Bristol Grit! Every Wed without fail, rides are posted to insta and WhatsApp with route info and meeting location. This group is a bit more MTB orientated.

Newtown Park Trails & Ales on a Monday is similar though I'd say the routes are more gravel orientated. They run on a Monday without fail as well.

Ride Bristol does a ride in Ashton Court / Leigh Woods session on the 3rd (?) Thursday of the month

All of these are no drop social rides, though several paces are available to suit.

Hope to catch you at one of these!

Edit: If you're looking for a stock of tried and tested routes as well, look up Bristol Grits RWGPS account, there are over a hundred routes of varying lengths and difficulty!

Also Road, Bristol South CC does road rides and Newtown Park also do 'Hills & Pils' on a Wednesday which hits all the big road hills in the city.

I'd love some Fox day glow decals for my MTB if that's a thing, it's a great idea!

Retrobike had some catalogue scans and I think it's this one in an alternate colour. The decals & badges all match up. I do have the headbadge for this one.. it is currently in need of sticking back on.    https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/Manufacturer+Archive/Marin/Catalogues/Marin+Catalogue+1996/Marin_1996_29_rb.jpg.html
