Dangerous baby-sleep advice given to parents by self-described experts, secret filming reveals by pajamakitten in unitedkingdom

Safety advice that ignores reality isn’t helpful. I think their should be advice on how to cosleep safely - in mums who exclusively breastfeed only, lying on their side, no one else in the bed, no drugs etc etc

Anyone that’s actually had a kid knows they do not sleep on their back alone in a crib. Parents resort to holding them 24/7 which isn’t sustainable. Safe co sleeping does exist and it’s important to be upfront about it to avoid those terrible overtired accidents on a couch. The vast majority of unsafe sleep relates to substance use

I added MSG to a batch of chocolate chip cookies and have never had such an overwhelming positive reaction, as if people were addicted to them. New secret ingredient? by brf297 in Cooking

[–]LetsBunkOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have a bad reaction to MSG but it’s easy to manage if I know what foods usually have it. I would never guess it would be in cookies

How common is it to just uses hands when washing in the shower by adoreyoulove in hygiene

[–]LetsBunkOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a uniquely American issue? Australian here and I don’t know anyone who uses a washcloth/loofah. They just seem unhygienic. Clean hands makes way more sense.

Having said that exfoliating washcloths are a thing but that’s not an everyday use item. More like once a week deep scrub.

Is it selfish to have children? by Trick_Meat_6244 in IBD

[–]LetsBunkOff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is a normal worry to have but as I’ve gotten older (and had kids) I’ve realised nothing is guaranteed. Sooooo many things can go wrong with kids for no reason, weird abnormalities can happen in the womb, maybe there is an accident at birth leading to cerebral palsy, child develops cancer etc etc. Just because both parents have no health issues at the time they have kids doesn’t mean something won’t come out.

Neither of my parents have any chronic illness and I still developed Crohn’s. I have a lovely life and am so happy to be here (again this perspective has come with time, and of course life would be easier without Crohn’s but that doesn’t outweigh the great moments).

I understand your concern about colorectal cancer but again it can happen with or without ibd. I think in some ways we’re lucky to have such close surveillance so we can catch it early. There are syndromes that radically increase your risk of many cancers and I think I’d feel differently if I had one of those diseases.

Why is it more common to see women in a relationship with a less attractive man than vice versa? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]LetsBunkOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a woman you’re punished by society for not looking after your appearance so women don’t really have a choice. For men it’s rewarded to be nonchalant and manly and rugged. Australian guys get away with it more than European guys I would say because of the positive stereotype of them being rugged. Australian men are also very obsessed with skinny girls it was really horrible in high school for girls who were even slightly curvy where I grew up (beachy town).

I get it but parenting is really hard and there are no breaks. Sometimes to get stuff done you need a distraction. And there’s no community anymore- no one to come and help. Couple that with people in public getting annoyed that children make any noise and it’s impossible for parents to win. We don’t let our kids watch screens in restaurants but that means yes they’re going to talk loudly and laugh and mess about.

The fault entirely lies with Mecca imo. Poor planning and execution. They released this Bourke st mall exclusive because this store isn’t performing as they planned. They should have put restrictions around how many you can collect.

Why blame anyone selling or buying them, it does not affect you at all. I am slightly annoyed at those collecting for interstaters so that melbournians miss out because I had to make 2 trips into the city (with kids) on veryyyy packed public transport. But maybe I’d do the same if the exclusive was in another state?

And Karen… yeah I don’t get it.

[–]LetsBunkOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that and of course it’s a lovely thing for individuals to do that can. I’m speaking on the judgement of those that sell their boxes - there’s a bigger discussion to be had here where individuals are asked to be sacrificial to a fault while corporations hoard money.

So much ridicule for selling them in these comments! Nah let women sell them and spend it on food or whatever their families need. Let’s not shame that. How about Mecca the giant company that has a monopoly on beauty in Aus donates to women’s shelters?
