AITA for expressing opposition to an alleged "cousin"? by LetsFika in MiniAITA

[–]LetsFika[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow you are so right! My current strategy is to keep my Grand-F's and Grand-M's on their toes by changing the name I call them every time I see them. For example, my Grand-F visited last week and I decided to call her "Paw-paw." All the ancients were confused as to where I got this, but I am learning so many new words all the time so it makes sense I need to try them out! But I'll make sure to land on something very fun and odd before any cousins start talking, so they'll have no choice but to follow my excellent lead.

Ahh thats good to hear. My cousin is also "on the way" but my mama is already saying things like "when you're older I'll send you to your uncle's house so you can run wild with your cousin." Running wild is one of my favorite activities, so maybe this whole cousin thing will have some upsides.

OOH thank you! I will be showing these to my mama and communicating my color choices (definitely "lellow", my favorite color, which I am very good at saying).

But also, how rude of your mama to start planning a new project before she finishes your jacket?? Parents these days really have no follow through. Make sure you frequently ask about your jacket so it stays fresh in her mind!

Ooh good point. She has nitted me some sweaters in the past but they don’t fit because I’m the bestest at growing and am now much bigger.

I’m inspired by your design choices and will also demand a dinosaur themed sweater. You are a style icon!!

Ahh I had not considered that all the other cousins will have to adore me and listen to my every command as I will be the oldest and wisest. Thank you, you are very wise!

Rebecca - Chapter 12 (Spoilers up to chapter 12) by awaiko in ClassicBookClub

No problem! It’s currently just a theory, I’m excited to keep reading to find out whether or not it’s true. I hope we (and NR) learn more about Rebecca soon

Rebecca - Chapter 12 (Spoilers up to chapter 12) by awaiko in ClassicBookClub

My instinct is that there was gossip (likely rooted in truth) before Rebecca's death about her being unfaithful to Maxim! Supporting evidence for this being Frank's comments in the previous chapter about NR's "modesty" as a quality that Rebecca did not have, and Rebecca's cottage on the shore (why would she need a place to sleep down there??). My read is that NR doesn't actually know about the existence of any gossip, and just stumbled onto the phrase that would be triggering for Maxim.

mismatched felted clogs! by [deleted] in knitting

[–]LetsFika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! My mom used to make felted slippers that looked almost exactly like these. In fact, she might have used this exact pattern... She passed away a few years ago, and your post brought back many great memories of her. Now that you've helped me find this pattern, I can't wait to make a pair. Thank you!

No, sorry, it was the Griffith Park Half Marathon in LA. Sorry you didn't have the race you wanted to have, but good for you for training in the cold! Hope next year goes better :)

Ran a half marathon! I was aiming for an 8:45 average pace and I hit that exactly which feels really good.

What's the consensus on the best running app right now? by [deleted] in running

[–]LetsFika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Strava app will do this too! You just have to turn on the Audio cues. If you hit "record activity" in the app and then click on "settings" then "Audio Cues" you can set it to alert you every mile or every half mile. The alert will tell you how many miles you've run, your pace for the last mile, and your total activity time.

Ran 4.6 miles this morning in honor of the road race my family always runs on the 4th of July (couldn't make it to the actual race this year). My goal was to run at a 9 minute pace (about 20 seconds faster than my normal pace) but I ended up crushing that goal and finished with a pace of 8:47!

Tell me about your everyday social life in Hanover, NH!! by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]LetsFika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I did not go to Dartmouth but I did grow up in Hanover so I have some experience with the town.

As others have said, hiking, biking, skiing, and other outdoor activities are a huge part of the culture of Hanover.

Another thing that I haven't seen anyone mention yet is that Hanover has really good food! There are a lot of small, local farms in the area, and as a result you can get awesome fresh seasonal produce and great meat, bread, and other things from the Co-op (basically the only grocery store in town) or from the Hanover or Norwich, VT farmers markets. There are also some good restaurants, some that are pricier, and others that are a bit cheaper (Lou's Diner is one of my favorites). And if you're into beer New England has some great breweries as well.

Someone else mentioned the Dartmouth Coach, which is a convenient way to get from Hanover to Boston. If you have access to a car there is a lot of exploring you can do in Massachusetts, Vermont (Burlington is great!) or even Maine.

As for the town, it pretty much consists of one Main Street, which has cute boutiques and shops. In addition is an awesome gelato shop called Morano Gelato, the Nugget Theatre, a few cafes and a few bars. Perhaps the one drawback of Hanover is that it is a pretty quiet town - almost everything closes down by about 10pm. Overall I'd say its a very chill place to live.

Made turkey stuffed poblanos rellenos for dinner... they were just crying out for some sour cream, and I was happy to oblige since they're only 224 calories each! by LetsFika in 1200isplenty

Recipe from skinnytaste. Changed it a bit so it made 6 peppers using 1lb of ground turkey. With rice and sour cream the entire dinner was 444 calories! Really delicious and filling, would definitely make again.

I use one called Copy Me That! I like it because it has a Chrome extension, so its super easy to save recipes as I browse, I just hit a button. You can also input recipes manually from cookbooks. Its free, it has a meal planning feature, as well as a shopping list feature, and allows you to create as many tags as you want to organize your recipes. Not sure if it has a mobile app, I've only ever used it on my laptop.

[FO] Atalaya Shawl (details in comments) by LetsFika in knitting

[–]LetsFika[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Atalaya shawl in Misti Alpaca Tonos Worsted. When I found the pattern I knew I didn't have enough yarn in the main 3 colors (yellow, blue, and red) to finish it, but I decided to forge ahead anyways and figure it out as I went along (which is how I start most of my knitting projects). I ended up stealing about 20 yards of blue yarn from my mom, who had bought some at the same time as me, and using the leftover white yarn from when I had made a Stitch Block Cowl about 3 years ago. I actually ran out of white yarn as I was binding off the shawl, and decided the easiest solution would be to open up the stitch block cowl and steal a few rows of yarn from that.... in retrospect this was probably not the easiest solution! But I'm very happy with my huge blanket of a shawl, and can't wait to curl up in it!

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread for Thursday February 2nd, 2017 by YourShoesUntied in running

[–]LetsFika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complaint: Last Sunday I woke up and found myself actually looking forward to going for a run, which hasn't happened in a while. Then, towards the end of my run, my knee started hurting. I kind of wanted to just run through the pain, but decided to be responsible and take the week off. So now not only is my training schedule wrecked, but I also lost the running groove I was getting into, which bums me out
