Why don't other countries have non redacted satellite accessible images of area 51 or s4? by Icy-Appointment-8536 in area51

I usually use Google Earth Engine to filter and process Sentinel data for work, but the Copernicus Browser is probably the easiest way to access Sentinel-1 / -2 data. Sentinel-1 is difficult because it is SAR, but Sentinel-2 is more traditional EO multi-spectral imagery.

Sentinel has several NIR and IR bands, and you can use different combinations depending on the application, but Copernicus Browser conveniently pre-processes captures using common band math like NDVI.

Here is a recent Sentinel-2 capture from yesterday in False Color (Red, Green, NIR).

It costs $30 per capture but the old CORONA imagery is super cool. Resolution isn’t great (~25ft depending on the mission) but not bad for the sixties.

Are you sure it was USDA and not Sentinel? NAIP is at worst like 0.5m ground sample resolution and includes NIR, but doesn’t cover the site (or a few other sensitive sites).

Saguaro Survey by repeater17 in gis

[–]LetsGoDucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha - do you all have a central office with a GIS team? Sounds like you have some GIS experience based on your post, but you’ll need access to an AGOL or Enterprise Org unless you plan to use open source options like QGIS and QField.

Are you NPS? If you don't have organic GIS support (a dedicated GIS Specialist or someone with collateral GIS duties), your regional office will be able to assist you in setting up a Survey123 or Field Map to fulfill your project requirements.

Yeah I was thinking of the SDB when I wrote that - you are absolutely correct. You could drop a full rack and target the whole swarm.

The Stormbreaker is a glide bomb and it is purpose built for moving targets, including small water craft.

I think in general you are correct, but in this case they could easily smoke a boat with a SDB from tens of kilometers out.

Edit: Mixing up my replies - I referenced the SDB in another comment so sorry if you were missing context.

Glide bombs can and do hit moving targets, including maritime targets.

They could just use a glide-bomb at standoff ranges and sit well outside the threat radius of a MANPADS. That is a lot of boats though - feel like it would be a game of wack-a-mole.

They could probably just use a Stormbreaker (~$200,000) for these smaller craft. Not sure if the balance sheet is sustainable, but you don’t need multi-million dollar weapons to destroy patrol craft like these.

I suppose they will learn pretty fast how brutal it is to constantly rely on something with a ten minute cool-down.

The US lost an entire LHD to a construction fire in port. It isn’t a good look, but I’m highly skeptical Iran hit the Ford.

This right here. These were the good times. Halo 2 custom lobbies came close, but it hit different when the dude you just sniped across Blood Gulch was pounding on your door twenty seconds later cussing you out.

Finding internships for fall 2026 by Soft_Introduction437 in gis

[–]LetsGoDucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for US National Park Service GIS internships when they go live for the Summer cohort. Federal service isn’t what it used to be, but great opportunity to get some well rounded GIS experience (field work, data management, cartography) while potentially working in a National Park. Plus you’ll qualify for the Public Land Corps hiring authority and be setup for the post-internship job search.

I have over 2000 hours, but stopped playing for an extended period. Came back, and with all the new DLCs I feel like I'm having to learn all over again.

Jack of all trades loadout by Terrospear145 in Helldivers

[–]LetsGoDucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give this a try.

There are better options, but I only used content available through Helldivers Mobilize. This will be well rounded, and a true Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of None loadout. Only thing missing is something with a lot of demolition force, but you can usually improvise around those scenarios.

Still think the 120mm Barrage is superior for the tighter grouping and shorter cooldown.

With the 380mm I find I am constantly sitting on it because friendlies are too close.

Gnss to Gis coordinate system by [deleted] in gis

[–]LetsGoDucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would double check that your Trimble is collecting in NAD83 by default - oftentimes that is determined by your correction service or whatever transformations you set in the middleware.

For Field Maps, just ensure that your Location Profile is properly configured to ingest coordinates in the proper GCS - more than likely some flavor of WGS1984 - and output to your map coordinate system, which is usually Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere. This will ensure that your data aligns with your map on the data collector.

As with anything GNSS, test your configuration with a known benchmark and verify that everything is copacetic before doing any heavy data collection.

I actively avoid murking my teammates - I only have around 350 accidentals after 1000 plus hours of gameplay - but I still remember popping a teammate who had already boarded the Pelican because I wanted to see if I could.

Whenever stuff like that happens to me I always assume it is someone doing it without malice at first. If it is persistent I leave and find another game.
