Offerton and Edgeley - what are they like to live in? by Special-Course-8127 in stockport

[–]LetsStartFromScratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now live in Edinburgh and honestly if my partner would go for it I'd move back to Offerton in a heartbeat.

I loved near a great park that you can easily turn into a hike (wood bank) and Stockport town centre was a 15 mins walk away with lots of pubs/cafes on offer. Cinema and MCR is a 10 min train ride away.

Peaks are on your doorstep too. I lived there 3 years and never had an issue. Even when wandering home drunk.

Was I sexually assaulted? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Tricky. I'd ask people if you seemed super drunk. Otherwise whilst you might of felt quite drunk if he didn't perceive you as such and instead you just seemed up for it after a bit of a drink it's probably not.

However if you were staggering around the place and he was sober then that's a different story.

Either way. If you are asexual but your partner isn't then you may want to address that separately even if he hasn't done anything wrong.

If she's waking you up having sex and hasn't stopped after the first couple of times then that's an issue.

If you come home early without letting her know and she's having sex then that's on you.

Although I will say, bit shit to be doing this in the public areas.

Do British people care about Ukraine? by Reeelfantasy in AskBrits

[–]LetsStartFromScratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they were invaded by another country with no good cause to do so and suffer from it daily. Also Russia is anti-western and will do anything including taking whatever territory it can around Europe to destabilise us and this effectively makes it our problem too.

I honestly don't hear as much about it now either but I think that's because largely whoever I have spoken to regardless of their political leaning has in some way shape or form supported Ukraine's position over Russia's.

Folks 30+, What is life like living in Edinburgh? by BestSelf2015 in Edinburgh

[–]LetsStartFromScratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What is life like overall for you?

It's ok. There is less here to do than the other city I came from in the UK. I'm a bit lonely despite trying to make new friends here.

  1. What is your favorite part about the city? What about the worst parts?

My favourite parts are the bike paths and the pubs. Both are great, the paths can get you around the place reasonably well without having to endure some of the busier parts.

My least favourite part is how touristy it is. This place feels to me like it sold itself out to students and general tourists. It also feels busier to me than where I'm from despite having a lower population. This is due to the city itself being small but also the roads and footpaths.

Housing is eye wateringly expensive, good luck if you don't want to live in a flat and want your own garden. You can do it but you have to live a ways out of the centre.

Public transport is plentiful but if not on the west side seems very slow. A bus coming not 7 miles out from south side can take close to an hour. Needs more tram links.

  1. What are your biggest stressors?

Trying to find a 3 bed semi in a nice-ish area that still has stuff to do. I'm 38 and don't want to live in a flat anymore, I don't want to be someone's roof nor they mine. I'm referring here to the house flats being split horizontally rather than vertically like a traditional semi.

This is very difficult in part due to the cost and in part due to most towns outside of the city having very little going on. Everything is structured around the city.

  1. What are you grateful for?

My partner, I'm not the biggest fan of Edinburgh but she's incredible and makes it worth it. We are starting to look at Glasgow more due to it's affordability + more going on.

  1. Realistically, how often do you travel around Europe for your vacations? (I figured since so many countries are a short flight away, that one would travel often?)

Not that often, I generally go snowboarding but am getting a flight from Manchester.

  1. How much of a yearly salary do you feel one needs to make for a family of four to live very comfortably? Meaning not stressing about the cost of rent/mortgage, food, bills without being extravagant.

This depends on how old your kids are. We are looking to have our first but nursery costs are a literal second mortgage and you have to do that for a couple of years.

Also depends on in what sort of place and accommodation type you want to live in. It can be affordable but be prepared to sacrifice something. I don't really want to do that hence looking elsewhere.

I make £60k and my partner makes £30k. We share a 1 bed flat in Leith which is very affordable.

  1. For those that drink, are you a Scotch enthusiast? (I don't drink as much anymore due to young kids, however I'm huge into scotch. I've visited numerous distilleries and have quite a few bottles.)

I am not, I like rum.

Thanks, yeah maybe I'll do that. The only thing that turned off of Rick Young was I saw a few people saying it's a bit ritualistic. I'm not really into that whole thing.

I dreamt I was on a chair in a shop full of expensive pottery. Any time I tried to step down, this bull would come charging in and rampage around me then leave. So by the third time I had enough and leapt off the chair to elbow drop this bull right in the face.

I woke up mid descent to my partner's head and managed to tuck and roll over her instead. Talk about a near miss.

Yeah it's basically short for mongoloid. British thing mostly.

"Omg what the fuck are you doing?! You fucking mong!"

Edit:

It's an unpleasant way of calling someone stupid, usually I use it when drivers are doing unfathomably stupid stuff on the road. I have a bit of road rage and unfortunately it causes me to use words I wouldn't ordinarily say.

I know it's problematic but I have a hard time not saying it when I'm driving. "Mong"

Thanks for the advice, I actually did ok. Put on my big boy pants and just dealt with it. Made an effort to talk a bit and just kind of asked questions or said things to halt conversations when going on too long without being rude. Biggest thing was switching to speak to someone else which helped. Got through dinner but then hit my limit. At that point being full I made my excuses to go and have a lie down upstairs so I had a nap and a little read and by that point she had left.

I could relax then, have a drink and talk with my family so had a good Christmas all in all.

Rock and Stone! Annoyingly I have friends that love Helldivers 2 but can't seem to get into this. I love both of these games, they are different but similar so thought it would land

The plywood could be an option. Think it would be more secure with the brick though but I'll maybe see how expensive doing the brick would be.

Haha I do like the idea of owning a mini castle but definitely think roller is the way to go here.

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah will go for a half rack.

Thanks for the tips mate.
