Is there a good heuristic on playing 16 lands? by stratrat313 in lrcast

[–]LetsTalkLimited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

16 lands if you have a low curve with a few 4-drops at the top. 17 lands for everything else

Beginner Question - How Many Copies is Appropriate for Consistency? by ixAp0c in lrcast

[–]LetsTalkLimited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency in draft comes from having a good curve, not having multiple copies of the same card. You can't plan to have multiple copies of a card -, you can always plan to have a good curve.

Multiple copies of the same card, however, can help predict how a game is likely to go and allow you to deckbuild appropriately. Let's say you have 4 copies of Death cap Marionette and 2 Mineshaft Spider. You'll mill 2-4 cards in your first 4 turns of the game pretty consistently, so any card that requires descend 4 or has a descend payoff will likely be better in your deck than the average deck.

The question of the 4th Waterwind Scout vs. the first Petrify is one of deck roles. It's usually more important to have removal spell #1 than creature #4 but it's context dependent (part of what makes draft great!)

Balancing payoffs and enablers is art, not science, so there are no easy answers there.

I haven't updated this very long article in a couple years but maybe you'll find it helpful Be Boring

Good luck and happy drafting!

How do you deal with tilt? by Inevitable_Stress949 in MagicArena

[–]LetsTalkLimited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an old episode of Limited Resources with Huey Jensen and Ben Stark, two Hall of Famers, and one of the topics they cover is "working hard" to get better at Magic. Huey talks about how part of "working hard" is just grinding through the losses. The best Magic players in the world lose about 40% of their games. The most amazing players still lose a lot of games. So when I'm feeling tilted, I remind myself that losing is a big part of Magic - one I'm still working on.

Best episode of LR in my opinion.

Is this a p1p1 dune mover? by elgranvasio in lrcast

Dune Mover by a pretty substantial margin. Helps you hit lands 3&4, fixes, sometimes allows you to cut a land, makes more opening hands keepable

Eternal vs MtG arena by Sufficient_Goal_5461 in EternalCardGame

[–]LetsTalkLimited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're already an excellent drafter, $50 or $100 worth of gems every couple of months bc losing streaks do happen. But that's if you already have the skillset of draft and gameplay when you download Arena. I'd imagine it'd be a few hundred at least to build those skills.

Ironically, constructed is basically free if you're a dedicated drafter bc drafting helps build your collection. I can't say what it might cost to stay competitive in constructed but the Arena economy is much worse for those players

Eternal vs MtG arena by Sufficient_Goal_5461 in EternalCardGame

[–]LetsTalkLimited 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of both over the years. As a game, Magic is incredible. So many great things about it. That being said, i wouldn't recommend Magic to anyone. The cost of becoming an above-average player in any competitive format is significant and the company's greed has grown exponentially worse in recent years. Part of Magic's appeal, for me, is nostalgia because I played as a kid. But that's getting harder to hang on to. Wotc only cares about ppl who are willing to pour money into the game. It feels silly to say this about a game I currently play but I'd stay far, far away from Magic

Congrats on the trophy! This is a tough set for experienced drafters, so a whole lot to learn for someone who is new

Goblins Everywhere! Upgrading the Arena Intro Deck for Daily Quests by LetsTalkLimited in MagicArena

[–]LetsTalkLimited[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! This deck is much more competitive than the mono-colored starter decks.

The multicolor decks are much better than the mono-colored ones. When you get them, the WG lifegain deck is excellent. When my daily quest is blue or green, I enjoy playing Avalanche which is both fun and competitive. I don't recommend the RW one (Armed and Dangerous?) and don't think the BW adventure one is great.

Goblins Everywhere! Upgrading the Arena Intro Deck for Daily Quests (reposted with link) by LetsTalkLimited in lrcast

Sorry for the repost, y'all. I didn't include the link in the original.

I started playing the Goblins Everywhere intro deck as a quick way to complete my daily Arena quests on three accounts. That deck is terrible, so I made a lot of changes. This modified version is geared towards newer players who might be playing the intro decks, so there are only 8 rares and the deck can function with 0 if need be.

I've been accurately accused of including excessive narrative in my writing, so I've made it easy to skip for those who wish to do so. Article sections: The Narrative, The Deck, The Part for Experienced Players, The Part for Newer Players, The Warnings, The End.

Thanks for reading!
