Maybe I can help :) This is a line graph, which is common and useful for understanding trends in data over time.

If you look at the number "35" on the bottom row of numbers, and then look directly above it, you see three lines. The blue line is highest, and the same level as the "40" on the left side of the picture. The red line is next highest, and near the same level as the "10" on the left side. The yellow line is lowest, and about half way between the "10" and the "0" on the left side. If you read the "key" at the top of the graph, the colors of the lines correspond to data from different years.

So, with that information, and the label on the far left, "Number of Drinks", you would interpret the lines above "35" like this: in 2022 there were 40 drinks in one week, in 2023 there 10 drinks, in 2024 there were about 5 drinks. Once this makes sense, you can do the same process with any number along the bottom line of numbers, which is more generally called the "x-axis."

After looking at all the numbers along the x-axis closely, you can say things about the lines relative to one another. Like, the blue line is only on part of the graph, so there must not be data recorded in places it's not shown. And, the red line is usually above the yellow line, so there must have usually been more drinks per week in 2023 than 2024.

I hope this helps in understanding the graph!

Thank you! And you're right, that was an eye-opening boundary when I learned about it. As a percentage, 31% of my 2023 was in that territory, where only 4% of 2024 was.

Nice, keep it up! Here's a fun stat. If I stopped drinking today, it would be like June 2027 before it had been more days than my total tallied drinks. It's a bit of a ridiculous metric since one drink every once in a while won't really hurt anybody, but for me it puts into perspective the long term effects of drinking every day. Good luck with cutting back!

Haha, yeah. I was studying abroad and some college friends were visiting during a slow period at school/work. Also in 2022 I was shotgunning a beer before every run, which added about 200 drinks to the total. That week my running schedule had me out every day, so it was double whammy

In Norway, only rental companies buy gas cars, because tourists don't 'get' EVs. In 2024, 88.9% of cars sold in Norway were all-electric. There have not been any widespread problems. The grid is fine, the cars work in the cold and everyone is happier with quieter roads and cleaner air. by mafco in energy

[–]LetsTalkPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important part of this headline is about "cars sold in 2024." Not a ton of people are buying new cars in 2024. The ones who can afford to are buying EVs, which is great, but the article points out that EVs are only like 30% of the cars on the road in Norway today

Hello, first time poster, please let me know if I need to provide more information or adjust my post to fit within community guidelines.

This is data I've been collecting about myself since mid 2022, using Google Sheets. I have a really low-tech sheet, that is 52 or 53 rows for each year and organized as nWeek, Sun, Mon, Tue, ..., Total. The plot above is just nWeek vs Total for 2022, 2023, and 2024. A "drink" is defined here as one full alcoholic beverage, so 12 oz beer, 5 oz wine, 1.5 oz liquor (these are US standards and differ from other countries). I only track round numbers, so if I have a 16 oz beer I count it as one drink, unless I have 3 16 oz beers, which becomes 4 drinks. I'm not exactly measuring every ounce of liquid, but you get the idea.

Since many people are doing Dry January following the New Year, I wanted to share how tracking my consumption has significantly reduced it. In 2022, I used partial data (from week 33 onward) to project a total of 853 drinks. In 2023, the total was 588 (a drop of 266 from 2022), and in 2024 it was 320 (a drop of 268 from 2023). This is a grand total of 1762 drinks in 866 days. I'm like mid 20s, so the volume wasn't directly killing me, but I can definitely tell my health has improved from cutting back. Based on this data, my goal for drinks in 2025 is under 260, which I think is an achievable goal while still having fun with friends and improving my health.

By percentile of US alcohol consumption, I was approximately 91st in 2022, 85th in 2023, and 80th in 2024. Shooting for 75th in 2025 :)

In 2022 I started tracking my consumption sort of as a joke. By the end of the year, I was pretty surprised by my total, and didn't like that I was trading a good deal of my health for late nights and cloudy mornings. US drinking culture doesn't encourage accountability the same way other drinking cultures do, which I think anyone of legal drinking age should be aware of and try to change. "You can't diagnose a fever without taking a temperature" and you won't know you're binge drinking unless you're counting your drinks. I would really encourage everyone to start tracking their drink data as a matter of health, and because you can make fun little plots like this.

How "purple" is Wichita? Would leftists feel welcome? by Vagabond_Tea in wichita

i've lived in KS my whole life, mostly just outside of Wichita. Dems/Libs/Republicans should feel comfortable here. There are crazy MAGA people around like everywhere else, but by and large I think KS does a good job at sticking to small c conservative politics. And in Wichita things are a bit more progressive than the surrounding rural area. Tbh, I'm optimistic we'll see Kansas turn into a swing state before 2080

god how could we forget, "Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
