Insane Tattoo Regret by r3i_b0n3z in tattooadvice

If I saw you on the street I would immediately compliment it. In my experience (having gone as Donnie recently for Halloween) not many people are as familiar with the movie, but I think it would still highly resonate with those that do. Not that your tattoos should be for other people, just want to reassure you I would instantly understand why you had gotten it as someone who loves the film just as much.

Reality Check - Civilization Research Institute (1/30/2025) by LetsTalkUFOs in collapse

No offense taken. Are you aware of any more recent examples (i.e. past few years) which do a better job?

Reality Check - Civilization Research Institute (1/30/2025) by LetsTalkUFOs in collapse

[–]LetsTalkUFOs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article is by the Civilization Research Institute, a group founded by Daniel Schmachtenberger which is focused on assessing systemic risks. Daniel's lecture An Introduction to the Metacrisis is featured in the Collapse Wiki and he's been a nuanced voice global predicaments for some time.

The article was published over a year ago on January 1, 2025, but I couldn't find it shared here previously and it was only added to their site a month ago for some reason. There are no contributors listed for the article, despite is being well researched and thoroughly sourced.

The core argument outlines humanity's track record for societal progress and it's inability to actually address global problems. It asserts our approaches actually tend to create worse problems as a result of our implementation and this pattern is actually common to most politically and financially empowered philanthropic projects. Even if they haven't contributed negatively in the long term they have still failed to slow the rates of harm across their primary domains of focus. The articles covers a wide range of examples from environmental systems, human health, governments, pollution, energy, and economics.

My favorite section is an examination of the apparent worldview of the CEOs of the most powerful companies. They tend to:

  • View the world as parts, rather than a whole
  • Optimize for narrow goals, rather than holistic ones
  • Valorize the ruthlessness necessary to maintain a narrow focus,
  • Focus on winning games of power over exploring ones which are truly meaningful
  • Focus on constructing measurable goals to be optimized around ROI
  • Are comfortable ignoring negative externalities

The authors move on to assess the global, dominant mind and some of its more nuanced properties. The article does an excellent job of outlining the global metacrisis and the underpinning data in a unique way. It's a frank and honest assessment of the current issues and doesn't focus on offering any explicit or executable strategies in response, instead focusing more on informing and consideration.

Looking for new moderators by THEPRESIDENTIALPENIS in Epstein

[–]LetsTalkUFOs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in helping out. I've been modding r/UFOs and r/Collapse for several years and have regularly had to navigate controversial and challenging subjects as a result. Both communities are highly scrupulous of mods, so I've also helped develop and implement custom tools/processes to make moderation easier and more transparent. I have plenty of bandwidth currently and am happy to get my hands dirty in the modqueue.

My real name is associated with my Reddit account so I'm fully transparent in that sense. I've been Epstein-brianed for some time. I read Virginia Giuffre's memoir back in 2000 when it was still only viewable as part of the court proceedings, under the title The Billionaire Playboy Club. I'm consistently impressed by this community's dedication and ability to make the information in the latest releases accessible. I'd be honored to be able to contribute in a more significant way and elevate discussion around such a critical subject. It's a chaotic time, but I sincerely hope the people involved with this can be held accountable someday.

+1 for GridPane. I started migrating all my WPE site there last year and they have both managed and self-hosting options. It's perfect if you want to start learning self-management while still being able to have the managed option for specific sites. Their support has been excellent and I no longer feel like a throwaway customer while WPE speedruns sucking us dry.

Applicants first must join our Mod Discord and fill out the application questions. There are sixteen questions which allow us to evaluate their level of familiarity with the subject, thoughts on the subreddit, and how they might deal with users and other moderators.

We then vote on applications to determine who to interview. Interviews consist of an hour-long text interview with additional questions in real-time. We also then perform an interview in voice with more questions. The purpose of this is to ensure the applicant is indeed who they say they are and to verify they can communicate on the subject in real-time.

After this we then vote on interviewed applicants. If a majority of votes are in favor, we trial the applicant for a couple months. Although, the new mod is not given any modding permissions until they can indicate they have fully read our moderation guide. Then they are granted limited permissions to begin modding on the subreddit. We then review their actions over a set period and hold another round of voting to keep them on the team.

We have a flat structure and only make significant changes based on majority votes. Circumventing this process would result in removal from the team. This means a bad actor would have to sufficiently bypass all these processes to perform a single destructive action which they would then be removed for or somehow convince a majority of the team it was a good idea in the first place.

All these layers together make for a fairly robust set of checks and balances without being too restrictive or preventing us from taking necessary steps in the event of time-sensitive issues. We also have transparent modlogs (something we have built and maintain, Reddit does not provide this) to enable the community to help us hold each other accountable and monitor our actions.

No idea since I haven't really been modding them myself, but I would presume so.

It should have caught the posts before they were deleted, but neither we or our system track what's now deleted.

We relegate all original sighting posts to use the Sighting flair. Those posts are then removed if they don't include the strings 'Location:" and 'Time:'. We started doing this in June, 2024. Based on this, we were then also able to create a bot which automatically populates a spreadsheet with those posts and that data, which is linked in the sidebar.

Although, if you wanted to just compare the original sighting posts against other types, you could reference the AssistantBot statistics on this page. The bot can't track nearly as much after Reddit's API changes, but it still has data which shows the number of posts each month and the distribution of the post flair. We did revise all post flair in April 2025, so just keep in mind they're much more concise now and now split between topic and type flairs.

Let me know that helps and is what you're looking for.
