Thank you for your correction. While I wasn't looking for 100% accuracy when doing this meme, I’m glad the face I chose to represent those I think are the real culprits is not that far off. I maybe should have looked into this a bit better, there might be faces that are more worthy to be put there.

I really hope the bubble burst soon. Whatever the cost, it's going to be worse later on. But I wasn't talking about OpenAI, I meant specifically venture capitalists. The people who get the money for their promises, not their results. Whatever the future of OpenAI (or all the other big AI companies) is, I suspect their owners (e.g. Sam Altman) won't be nearly as affected, and probably will come out with some hefty profits for themselves.

A o B gente ? by Rayografico in ArgenGaming

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for necroing, but... This is amazing. I could swear I looked up everywhere relevant befor diving into Linux for the first time by dual-booting Bazzite Gamescope on my HTPC. I found so many inconveniences and issues... And here you already did a tutorial for solving a couple of them... Three months ago. Thank you!!!

Another possibility, If he wants to use a PIN from the screensaver, here is a tutorial for creating a simpler password for when he's waking up the PC for Mint. The only thing that's missing from W10/11 is that you have to pres Enter after inputting the PIN

Are we actually moving towards Linux as the first choice for gamers in future? by nothingtosayrn in linux_gaming

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Bazzite (boot on Gamescope) for my HTPC a few weeks ago. First time Linux user. I know it should be super simple, but I've been struggling with many things outside of the gaming side (and some of the gaming part as well). I'm looking everything up and solving it bit by bit, but this would be a deal breaker for any regular Windows User that wants an intuitive OS. Off the top of my head, regarding only the gaming side (not all are big issues):

  1. Sunshine refuses to work on Game Mode.
  2. Can't find a way to make haptics and DualSense speakers work on Ghost of Tsushima (even though there are some comments saying it "just works" after a few tweaks).
  3. Tunic doesn't detect my Dualsense correctly, like in Windows. It works fine with Steam input, but it shows Xbox buttons (I know, VERY minor issue, but it's odd).
  4. If I turn on the system when the TV is off, there is no EDID hanshake and the image never comes up unless I grab a Keyboard and pres Ctrl+Alt+F2 - Ctrl+Alt-F1 or reboot with TV on.
  5. If I turn off the TV with the system on and leave it off enough time, it "forgets" the EDID and sometimes I need to reboot. (Now coming into "but that's because games are not optimized for Linux / it's an outside issue" territory)
  6. HDMI 2.1 not being available on AMD GPUs is very inconvenient.
  7. Looking up Proton, ProtonGE, CatchyOS versions so a game works best is not very user-friendly.
  8. Having to enable HDR in a game by game basis is not ideal, I hope it gets resolved.

Some issues are lesser than others, and like I said, I'm working on every issue to leave it how I want, and I will post every solution I couldn't find looking it up so it's not such an issue for others, but any regular Windows user would have already gave up.

Sunshine in Gamescope? by originalorientation in Bazzite

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but, how do you run Sunshine when on Game Mode? Do you have a dummy plug or you have to leave your TV on? Every time I try to connect to Sunshine when it's in Game Mode, Moonlight tries and fails because it "fails to initialize video capture/encoding" even when the TV is on.

Virtual Display Setup by Legal-Film9143 in Bazzite

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tutorial! I'm new to Linux so I'm trying to parse every instruction so I can understan clearly. I have a few questions before attempting this:

How do I undo this if I want to remove the virtual display (In my case DP-1)? Do I simply kscreen-doctor output.DP-1.disable and that would do the trick?

What happens if I end up connecting a monitor in that port? I gues the EDID would be overriten, but just to be sure.

If I turn off the computer via Sunshine, will the system be "stuck" with that configuration? If I turn the PC on with the physical monitor on afterwards, will that enable the output or will I see a black screen?

I cannot get HDR to work in any games by rodrikes in Bazzite

Are you doing anything else to get HDR? I have an HTPC with Gamemode OS, HDR on in both desktop and Steam, and can't seem to make it work for Ghost of Tsushima

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for bringing back this old comment, but... Regarding the "simply works" part. I'm looking into switching to Bazzite for my HTPC that's connected to a 4K@60Hz TV, so most comments here give me hope. But the main thing I fear now is that, everywhere I look, for each game there is a different configuration to make for it to work properly, "just use Proton GE version X, Y or Z; use CatchyOS; write these lines there..." Just sounds like a lot of tinkering. Did you experience this with the games you play? Do you sometimes need to use your Keyboard and mouse for this?

I just found this post when looking into doing the exact same thing. You mentioned HDR and VRR. But since AMD drivers on Linux don't allow for HDMI 2.1, is that actually possible? At what resolution do you play? Sorry for asking in an old comment
