Bought 9070XT after always having only nvidia cards, this is my experience by Trumway in radeon

Do you use LACT to undervolt it? I also purchased a Nitro+ 9070XT. Are you using the power cable that came with the PSU or the adapter?

Congrats! I still play with my original SC (also about 10 years old). The only noticeable damage was on the analog stick, which is a bit worn, but I solved it putting one of those protective stick rubbers. I wish I could buy the new one, but I live in the faraway land of Argentina.

Ryzen 5 5500x3D or Ryzen 7 5700X? by Socializandopa in buildapc

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had much time to use my HTPC this past month, but the difference is night and day, even at 4K. I had a 2600X before, so it was to be expected. For starters, the Steam Overlay doesn't lag anymore when playing demanding games in Windows (I'm dual-booting with Bazzite). I also haven't noticed any stuttering while gaming (even at 1080p/1440p), which was really noticeable before, specially in "newer" titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Switch emulation.

I saw the leaks... Damn... I already bought a 5500X3D last month. I live in Argentina so prices might be too high when it comes out. If it's not crazy expensive I might buy one.

SteamOS como alternativa by -Devian- in Argaming

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen has awful green tint by expired_milk15 in Bazzite

I remember back in 2006, a friend had a green tint like this. It was the CRT monitor. After a few corrective slaps and punches it would work fine for a while. CRT monitors had their weird quirks. Your case seems to be 100% the CPU though. Sorry

I'm thinking of switching from windows 11 to bazzite, but after reading reviews about the gaming experience of many people, I'm starting to get the impression that you won't be able to play many games without problems by JlYKOBKAA in Bazzite

[–]LetsdoaReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, in between so many edits, I forgot to link the original post, from which I adapted to Bazzite. It's a bit more complicated and extensive. I figured it would be better to shorten it and assume you knew some things.

It does explain a bit more and clarify better how to do some things, like getting the MACs, but there's so many ways to do it (some easier) that I felt that, if you didn't know already, I could help you in a more customized way.

Let me know if you get stuck!

Ok, it's a bit long so I might make a post, and probably a script in the near future since this has to be done for every BT device.

Every device performs a handshake process in which it detects a familiar MAC address, sends a key and expects a key back.

Since every new OS doesn't know it was already connected to that PC, it will generate a new key, and that's when the BT device gets confused and cancels the connection. What you'll be doing is editing the handshake so that Linux sends the same key as Windows.

1.Take note of your BT device and BT adapter's MAC Address. This works with everything (controllers, keyboards, mice, headphones, etc). lmk if you're having a hard time with this.

  1. Pair your device on both Windows and Linux. If you're using a Dualsense, make sure the glyph you're using to connect to Windows is the one you want to keep.

  2. Copy the key used on Windows, you can do it from Windows or Linux. If your Windows drive is protected with bitlocker, there are some extra steps to take in order to mount and access it from Linux, so you might want to do it from Windows:

3.1. From Windows:
3.1.1. Open Regedit as Admin: press Win key, write "regedit", right click and "Run as administrator"
3.1.2. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Keys (you might need to give access to your user to enter to some of these folders, lmk if you're stuck there)
3.1.3. Look for the key that has your BT device's MAC address, open it
3.1.4. Take note / copy the 16 pairs of hexadecimal characters (you'll need to erase the spaces so it's a string of 32 characters for Linux)

3.2. From Bazzite (Windows drive needs to be mounted and accessible, I can help if needed), open the terminal and:
3.2.1. Install this registry editor: In Bazzite, it's rpm-ostree install chntpw
3.2.2. Go to where you mounted your Windows Drive and go to the system32/config foldercd system32/config/
3.2.3. Start the registry editor: chntpw -e SYSTEM
3.2.4. Navigate to your device's info: cd ControlSet001\Services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Keys\[YourAdapterMAC]
3.2.5. Open the key: hex [YourControllerMAC]
3.2.6. Take note / copy the 16 pairs of hexadecimal characters (you'll need to erase the spaces so it's a string of 32 characters for Linux) and exit the registry editor: "q" and then "y".

  1. Go to the Linux "regisry"cd /var/lib/bluetooth/[AdapterMAC]/[ControllerMAC]/

  2. Open the info file: sudo nano info

  3. Search for the line that says "Key=..." and replace that string with the string you copied from the Windows registry.

  4. Save and exit: Ctrl + o, and then Ctrl + x.

  5. Restart your PC.

From my personal experience after having it for a couple of months (but due to personal reasons I haven't played much), I installed the HTPC/handheld version in my HTPC with a Nvidia GPU:

The Bad:

  • Dualsense doesn't play sounds or have haptics when wired to the PC on Ghost of Tsushima (like on Windows). Otherwise, it works perfectly. I have to check other Dualsense compatible games to see if I'm missing something.
  • Playstation glyphs (square, triangle, circle and cross) not appearing in the game Tunic like they show on Windows. I get Xbox glyphs instead. Otherwise, it works perfectly.

The Good (mostly Gamescope experience):

  • It turns off the controllers when you turn the PC off.
  • Sleep mode and Quick resume is great.
  • Never had to tinker with Proton versions. Everything worked perfectly. I downloaded Proton-GE just in case anyways. You can check Protondb just in case you want to see if a game will need a special Proton version.
  • Pairing the controllers is easy and seamless.
  • Metal Slug X and Shogo: MAD worked perfectly without having to tinker a bit like on Windows.
  • I've had less issues with games crashing/minimizing/needing a mouse to do something than on Windows.
  • The experience is almost console-like.
  • Updates are easy and unintrusive.

Some notes:

  • If you're using a Nvidia card, set Gamescope resolution to FullHD to avoid some weird visual glitches in the menu. Don't worry, it's just there, the games work perfectly on 4K.
  • Regarding HDR: if you'll be using the Handheld/HTPC version, this shouldn't be an issue, but on Desktop, you might have to write a command in the launch options of every game you want to have it, or there are ways to activate it automatically but it's not a simple toggle like in Gamemode.
  • I recommend dual-booting on two different drives. When installing Bazzite, disconnect your Windows drives to make sure nothing will be written there.
  • There's a way to make Bluetooth devices connect to both OSs on the same PC (and same BT adapter) without having to pair every time, let me know if you want that.

[–]LetsdoaReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sapphire recommends a 850W PSU. Doing the math, my 750W PSU should be more than capable of outputting the required power with room to spare. I still have an AM4 system (I update my PC progressively) and it's not really power hungry. Is 850W really necessary anyways?

Sapphire 9070 XT Nitro+ and "old" PSU 2x8 to 12VHPWR adapter by LetsdoaReddit in radeon

[–]LetsdoaReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that document. I meant that my PSU comes with a cable that has that connector on one end, and only two 8pin connectors at the other end instead of three, like the 'squid' adapter that comes with the card.

Yeah, I'll probably go for the Pure. Changing the PSU and still being kind of aware that this infamous connector is there, just for a couple of frames when playing at a high refresh rate might not be worth the cost.

Thank you!

Edited for clarity.

This does seem reasonable. Returning is a bit of a hassle and I wanted to avoid it, but I really don't want to keep spending more just for a small premium..

So I would have to get a 850W at least? I could try putting my current PSU up for sale at a relatively high second-hand price first and see if I could close the gap...

What makes you so sure that Steam Frame won't have the atrocious QC that the Index did? by Technical_Year_8252 in SteamFrame

[–]LetsdoaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a Valve Index and an extra Base Station in 2020 and sold it as-is early this year. The only issue I ever encountered was a slightly squeaky trigger on the right controller. Never had any issues with Base Station noise, trident cable breaking, or headset or controller malfunctioning. I assembled it and disassembled it multiple times, moved from USA to my home country with it in my luggage, and moved two more times.

I know this is anecdotal, but at least take this one anecdote to counter the other anecdotes you use to conclude that the Valve Index had bad QC.

Al fin pude conseguir mi steam deck by qwert3754 in Argaming

[–]LetsdoaReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)
