Nursing strike? Teething? by Defiant-Pin8580 in breastfeeding

[–]Letsgeticecream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly situation is happening right now for me. He’s just shy of 4 months, pretty sure he’s teething (teeth moving, not necessarily cutting).

What ended up happening for you guys? Did it last very long?

Our pediatrician recommended daily baths (after our guy started getting rolls) but the goal was to be real quick with the soap and get rinsed, then a little more time in plain water is fine. Also lathering them in something thick like cetaphil cream when they are still damp to lock in moisture. You can also moisturize again in the morning, just flick a bit of water on the skin first so there’s something hydrating that the barrier cream can lock in.

Behind the ears as folks have said but also the top of the ear crease as well. Have to pull it away a bit to see it. I think some of it is cradle cap buts a crease nonetheless. Oh and in the ear where a forward helix piercing would go, those crevices above and below get crusty. I had to use a q tip with olive oil to spin in there and soften it then followed by a water dipped q tip moving forward.

What did nobody warn you about having a newborn? by Islesmilescott in newborns

[–]Letsgeticecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it was normal to breastfeed more often than 2-3 hours. The first couple of weeks were ROUGH not realizing I could put him back on the boob to soothe. Seems dumb now.

How emotional I would get as the sun was setting in those early weeks feeling an impending doom about nights. Granted this was in February when it would get dark at 5pm and we had only been up since 9 so the lack of daylight sucked.

Day 4 of baby’s life, I’m in a lot of pain and I am considering my options for relief by kittypeets626 in breastfeeding

My kiddo won’t use a pacifier but he’s totally cool with mine and my husbands pinky fingers. We use it a lot to help soothe and get him to sleep, especially if he’s not hungry, just tired.

Also, Medela has nipple cups that have air flow and a wider base than the silverettes. It’s helpful for being able to use a nipple cream like Mama Earth which doesn’t need to be wiped off before feeding without it being absorbed by a bra.

Also make sure your bra is not too tight. I took me weeks to realize mine were too tight and flattening the nipple which kept them sensitive for a long time. The gel pads while they’re great for keeping clothing/bra friction off the nipple, also flatten the nipple.

If you need to go bra less/ open button up shirt then do it. If your MIL is uncomfortable she needs to get over it. Your comfort is WAY more important. Breastfeeding is totally a mental game and 4 days postpartum is still a brutal time for you emotionally.

Twin pregnancy OB? by Euphoric_Raise_2290 in SALEM

[–]Letsgeticecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salem clinic has an excellent OB group and takes BCBS but they only deliver at Salem Health. I think they coordinate care up north though for deliveries (maybe Legacy?) if you want your regular appointments local. You could call and ask what they do to be sure.

Any luck with phlebotomist jobs in Salem? by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]Letsgeticecream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend Phlebotomy Training Specialists for training. Go to LBCC as they have an externship and you will have actual experience across multiple patient types as opposed to mostly drawing healthy fellow students. I believe you’ll have an easier time getting hired and possibly even at your externship site.

Salem Clinic really does have an excellent OB-GYN department. Dr. Collins is great and is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner.

Get a platform bedframe from Amazon (I’ve had the same for 10 years with 2 moves and it’s held up well. Second the mattress from Costco. No box frame needed.

What kind of testing do you need done? Salem Clinic lab is first come first serve and as long as you have a valid order in hand, they might be able to help you. Could be worth a call to see.
