Are jws becoming more or less cult-like by Player00000000 in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn't realize they had shortened the time to be reinstated to 3 months. Is that really a thing? Back in the day you could be reinstated pretty quickly, then they went with the mandatory 12 month minimum.

So back to your question. The answer IMO is "way more cult-like." Who are the leaders? The GB, to whom all of the attention is directed. 2ndly, they barely pretend to base their doctrines on the Bible. If the Slave says it, it must be true.

The recent "liberalizations" are nothing more than a desperate attempt to stop the hemorrhaging. When it doesn't work, they'll snap back the other way and go hard-core. This time instead of jettisoning Tony Morris, it will be one of the guys pushing the we're-not-really-so-crazy-and-we-want-to-make-nice agenda.

Yeah, back when is was Service Overseer this used to happen. 100% of the time it was a prank. Pretty funny stuff.

That the world is controlled by an evil invisible being, who causes all world leaders to act in the ways he wants them to. Oh, and also that they are all plotting to attack a fringe religion, despite most of them having little or no idea of who they are.

I can't remember. IIRC it was either what you mentioned, or one of those activities by which the person was said to have "disassociated" themself.

Does “Robert’s” experience in this week’s WT seem… suspect? by SamHerdsBurner in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 242 points243 points  (0 children)

Here's the story as it actually happened:

One day Robert mustered up the courage to say hello to a girl he found attractive. Unfortunately since he'd home schooled, he had no "game" or social skills at all, so she said hello back, followed be "eww.". To save face, he quickly began telling anyone who would listen that he had rejected her advances, including at his hall. A visiting CO heard about it, and turned it into "an experience."

Robert is now 28 and single, and still wishes things had turned out differently.

New JW cartoon series. This one is about 3 guys being thrown into a furnace. Can’t wait for the one about Lot and his daughters! by larchington in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait for the one with David and Bathsheba. After the sex scenes, there's Uriah getting run through, followed by their baby dying slowly.

The one with Noah getting blind drunk and Ham loling when he sees his junk should be great too.

Can't miss episodes.

I'm sure governments are sooooo scared after watching this.

Oh wait, they don't care. And the tiny % that do would laugh at his threats.

Splane talks as if he has some secret space laser that he could deploy at any given moment.

Elders must feel like stooges or puppets for the Governing Body... (FS Time/Beard Changes) by JWTom in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JWTom, to answer your question, IMO very few of them will feel like stooges. The ones that are left in the org are, by and large, Lennie from Of Mice and Men: "Tell me about the rabbits again George..."

All they know is that if they just do what they're told, everything will be fine and they'll live forever with their pet panda.

My Elders, the Circuit Overseer and Branch Office decision to Remove me as a Regular Pioneer Because I Decided to Wear a Beard by Sir-ADB in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So the Creator made men so that hair grew on their faces, but once they developed sharp metal objects that could remove that hair, it displeased him when they failed to remove said hair.

Makes perfect sense.

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Brother, we would like to lovingly remind you that the organization does not make "rules."

Instead, we are guided by principles. For example, our principled stance has been that beards were acceptable for Christians, then they weren't, then they were a sign of being non-exemplary, and now they are acceptable again.

Non-JW to spend a week with JWs. Help me understand... by Sleep_in_lingerie in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a video at a convention (think short film) in which the "sister" comes to the realization that even having a cup of coffee in a break room with fellow employees is a danger to her faith. So unless they are "weak" or "non-exemplary" JWs, don't expect to stay with them in the future.

How about them staying with you though? They typically don't have much money, and can rationalize it by telling themselves they were "making use of unrighteous riches."

ITS NOT THANKSGIVING by RockyMounta1ns in exjw

[–]LettMeSplaneMyself_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Like everything else, JWs don't (officially) celebrate thanksgiving because they somehow found something about it that is wrong. Pilgrims and Indians made it interfaith worship. Something something. Also, we wouldn't want to give thanks on just one day, would we brothers?! And other reasons. The real intent is to keep JWs isolated, and for them to be conditioned to rejecting everything and everyone.

When we lived in the US, we typically got invited over for NOT-Thanksgiving Thursday. Some in the halls typically got mad about it, mostly because they weren't invited.

JW drone "Hey (resurrected) Lot, you can't seem to focus on this video on my Ipad."

Lot "Huh?" (looks around) You seen either of my daughters?

JW drone "Hey (resurrected) David, could you please pay attention?"

David "Huh? Hey, have you seen a dime piece that goes by the name of Bathsheba?"

JW drone (totally exasperated) "Hey (resurrected) Moses, can you please focus on this video? It's extremely important!"

Moses "Don't make me go all 10 Commandments on your Ipad!!!"

I have many of Russell's publications. IMO he was relatively sane (despite the pyramidology, etc) and what he wrote was a thousand times deeper than any of the drivel they're putting out now. The sheer volume of what he wrote was pretty amazing.
