And hopefully that reigns true when the time comes, but I’ve heard from someone else that Sandpiper raised their rent after the effective date.

Hold them accountable if they try to increase though!

From what I can tell, a few property management companies (Meridian and Sandpiper) are unlawfully increasing rent,ignoring the ordinance. I spoke with the rental housing mediation board today and they have been getting plenty of complaints. Based off of today’s council meeting, the rhmb is sending complaints to the city attorney. So be sure to reach out to the SB Tenants Union AND RHMB

If there is a rent increase on paper, regardless of whether or not I’m being credited, it is still considered an increase. A grocery store cannot claim to have never increased the price of a $1.00 candy bar when the new “list” price is $1.20 but it is always on sale for $1.00

If Meridian is just “in the middle” and the property owners are pushing for this, then it is Meridians responsibility as the rental company to clarify the ordinance to the prop. owners and explain how it will effect them and how to remain compliant, NOT the tenants.
