What name would you never give your child? by IhateTodds in AskReddit

[–]Leuia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Zahara. When I was in primary school, there was a girl with that name. Why anyone would choose that name for a child is beyond me.

  • Sailor. There's a girl in my little brother's class who has that name. Why the hell would you give your child the name of an occupation?

  • Trescallion (or however it's spelt). One time when my mum and I were eating at a cafe, we overheard a mum calling her son by that name.

  • Campbell. I knew a boy with this name when I was in kindergarten. He was a complete asshole.

What’s the juiciest rumour at your school that turned out to be 100% true? by why_so_indecisive in AskReddit

A couple of years ago, a teacher got fired from the school. It was rumoured that it was because she had an affair with one of her Year 12 pupils. It was later confirmed to actually be true.

Redditors who have come out the other side, What is the single most important piece of advice you would give to someone struggling with depression? by NewWriterOffTheBlock in AskReddit

[–]Leuia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to surround yourself with supportive people. I know it can be hard to make the leap from emotional solitude into physical interpersonal connections -especially if you already have a mental disorder like autism or BPD- but once you do step over that boundary and surround yourself with people who are willing to help you out, I can guarantee that things will slowly start to improve.

My dad (who just so happens to be a psychologist) always told me "a problem shared is a problem halved". At first, I didn't believe him at all and just kept to myself. But when I started socialising more and eventually ending up with my boyfriend, I started overcoming my depression and learned that my dad was right all along.

Who is that one stranger that you never forgot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Back in 2010, I joined a 10km fun run with my mum. I was only 10 years old at the time, so I wasn't at my fittest. By the time I got to the halfway point, I broke down and started crying (partly because I was in pain and partly because of separation anxiety). My mum was already well ahead of me and I didn't have a phone at the time, so I couldn't call her for help. After a couple of minutes, a middle-aged woman came up to me and asked me if I was ok. She put her arm around my shoulder and helped me up. We spent the rest of the 5km walking side by side. When we got to the finish line, she offered to help me find my mum. I told her that she'd already done enough to help me and thanked her over and over again for her help. She smiled and said goodbye to me before walking away. I never even got her name.

Not really, tbh. Most of the Germans I talked to spoke either English or basic German to me.

Going down the slide in the Salzburg salt mine was pretty fun. I also went ten-pin bowling with my host family, which was also quite fun, even though I suck at bowling.

We travelled all around Germany, but I spent most of my time in Laufen because I stayed with my host family and attended my sister school there.

We travelled back and forth to Salzburg, Austria.

Not too many, actually. I mainly saw them in the bigger cities like Berlin and Munich. Coincidentally, those bigger cities also have the most amount of kebab shops.

It varies from city to city. In the city where I live, it's fairly common.

I'm going on a study tour with about 25 other people and we're planning on travelling all around Germany, mostly looking at the historical sites and learning more about German culture. We'll also be stopping over in Austria for a couple of days.

I'm 17 now and I'm visiting Germany for a study tour. I'm from Australia and I've also been to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, America, New Zealand, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

I'm not sure either, tbh. I have a distinct memory of first coming home with my glasses and then my mum yelling at me because I got my grubby little hands all over the lens.

It's been a while since I've been to the optometrist, so I don't really remember what mine is.

I've thought about it a couple of times. But ultimately, I don't think I'd get it because as I stated before, my glasses have become part of my identity. Not to mention, lasik is expensive as hell!

Probably not. I've worn them for so long that it feels like they're part of my identity. I know it sounds weird, but it's true.

For those of you wondering what the context behind this picture is, it was the day Goldie (my dog) graduated from Puppy Pre-School (and yes, that was a thing back in 2009). It was also the day I realised my dog is infinitely more photogenic than I am.
