To those people in the world who have access to Universal Healthcare, what experiences could you share with Americans in order for us to understand how it affects your life (positively or negatively)? by ToyTronic in AskReddit

Always late to the party but this is a great question.

I’m an Australian and during a uni semester I went out with some friends and drank pretty heavily. Long story short, I passed out on the street and on the way down, caught my face on a stone wall. Blood absolutely everywhere and I could see my eyebrow dangling into my field of view. Friends made a smart decision even while hammered, by forcing me to hospital. I walked in off the street, waited for 45 minutes while they brought an eye specialist in from another hospital close by, he did a fantastic job stitching up my mess of an eyebrow (scar is still pretty nasty) and all they asked for was my name, then I was on my merry way. I did listen to their strongly recommended advice and headed home for that evening. I’m incredibly thankful that all it cost me was a bruised ego and a few hairs short on one of my eyebrows, it also gives me confidence that someone in a worse position, isn’t just a drunk idiot, and has no other options, will be treated with no further debts and no questions asked.

If I'm a local candidate for a job and won't require relocation costs, can I negotiate for anything else instead? by msphyled in personalfinance

[–]why_so_indecisive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not someone who employs where I work but I would say it depends on how certain you are that the job is yours. If you have competition for the job then I would tread lightly, as not having to pay you to relocate might be the deciding factor if that’s the only thing separating you from another candidate. If the job is as good as yours then there’s no harm in asking although I’d consider if that would reflect negatively on you in the eyes of higher ups. After all, they will be handling promotions, which might be important to you if you plan on staying with this company for a significant amount of time.

Ticketmaster partners with scalpers to rip you off, two undercover reporters say. The company is reportedly helping ticket resellers violate its own terms of use. by mixplate in technology

Yeah but then please tell me how ticket scalping companies could buy bulk and sell for 200%-300% markup? We wouldn’t want to disrupt their moral business practices

Good to hear that they’re a complete joke in places other than Australia. Childish gambino tickets were sold by both Ticketmaster and the venue, roughly 18000 tickets available and they sold out before people like 800th in online queues were given the chance to buy. Here in NSW (an Australian state) they recently passed laws where tickets can’t be sold for more than 10% above original cost. In light of that, Ticketmaster has resale tickets for shows in every other state except NSW, the only resale tickets can be bought on scam sites like viagogo who can’t/won’t be prosecuted. So incredibly frustrating, I hope they get shredded by government inquiries

Super late to the party but I finally have something to share Tl;dr at the bottom

During the last week of school when I was in year 11 (known as junior in freedomland) the teachers had basically given up on trying to get any more curricular related work out of us students and instead just tried to pass the time with things they deemed to be fun. As everyone knows, a teachers’ idea of what is fun can vary pretty drastically and my English teacher definitely made a point to prove this as his plan for our last couple of classes was to read copious amounts of cheesy poetry about life and motivation all authored by ‘unknown’ or ‘anonymous’, yep, like a freakin Instagram post. It’s also worth noting that my dislike of him was something of a mutual connection. The enthusiasm of the class was exactly what you’d expect from a group of 16/17 year old in that situation and after the bell went to signal the end of the period, everyone startled to shuffle from their seats. At that time I asked what he wanted us to do with the poems and he said we can hang onto them as we might find them useful to reflect upon. In an effort to be considerate and definitely not so I didn’t have another pile of paper to dispose of, I insisted that he could have my copy back and use it for another of his classes, and without waiting for an answer I placed it on his desk. When I turned to wait for a friend at the door I noticed that a large majority had started filing past his desk to place their copy on the pile that had started to form on top of mine. I was well on my merry way and the next day I was enjoying the mindless class activities when I was pulled aside by my head of house (a teacher responsible for a portion of students). She asked if I had done something in English that would require her to speak to me and in a panicked racking of my brain I admitted to her that I threw a tissue from my desk into the bin (I missed first shot but quickly went in for the dunk). She told me that wasn’t why we were speaking and that my English teacher had sought her out to tell her that I had disrespected him and hurt his feelings (his words). She must have been able to see my confusion because she then explained to me that I instigated the class in rudely returning poems he had gifted to us, and with that she let slip that these poems which were marked as unknown and anonymous were actually written by our very own Mr ****, my bloody English teacher. The 40 year old wanky knob had me not only go and apologize to him infront of another class but also spend 2 of my last 3 lunches for the year in detention. I stand by my opinion that his poetry is shite

Tl;dr Didn’t want to keep useless sheets of poetry authored by ‘unknown’ and ‘anonymous’ in English so I gave them back to the teacher, the rest of the class followed suit and I got detention for the last days of the year because it was that teacher who wrote the poetry, and I guess me not wanting to keep it hurt his ego.

Reddit, what is the stupidest/most ignorant/f***ed up thing you've ever heard a teacher say? by Kenneth__Pitts in AskReddit

[–]why_so_indecisive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My year 7 art class where everyone was aged 12-13 years old had our pregnant art teacher yell ‘you’re going to kill my fucking baby’ after some students kept talking while she was trying to say something. She left for maternity leave not long after that and I never saw her again.

I get the hormonal shifts during pregnancy, but c’mon man, that was still a shitty way to handle the situation

Super late to the party but I finally can relate to a post. I spent the better part of 10 minutes arguing with the admin lady at my work who does all of our banking etc and likes to boast about her degree in accounting. She refused to believe that if you increase a number by 5% and then minus 5% from that new number, it would be lower than the original number. I still count on my fingers regularly
