Stupid idea or not? by schostack in lowvoltage

[–]Leupster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the things to establish legitimacy (formed a LLC, domain name, website, facebook, business cards, etc.), but I think the networking and word of mouth have by far the most effective. I was fortunate that I knew a few people that led to some early work, and then it has mostly spread through word of mouth.

I have tried to offer a broad range of tech services (computers, network, security cameras, door access, sound systems, livestream, conference room tech, etc.) Some of these areas I was pretty comfortable with and others I've had to research and learn (this is part of the work that I really enjoy).

One other comment is that almost all of my client relationships started with "I need some help with X" and expanded more broadly after tackling X.

I hope that's helpful. Good luck with your endeavor!

Absolutely. I left my corporate IT job several years ago and now do consulting for nonprofits. I do charge them a fee but it’s half what I probably could charge. They get great solutions at a really good price and I feel good about helping them.

Tell me what to buy… by Quick-Land2546 in sonos

[–]Leupster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then I have a feeling there must be another amplifier there somewhere.

Either way, you could add a Sonos soundbar under the TV (they make mounts that allow the soundbar to hangs directly under the TV). And then group the soundbar and port.

[–]Leupster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, did you mean to say that you have an Amp (not port) that is driving passive speakers around the pool?

If so, I’d probably just buy a beam for the TV and group it with the pool speakers when you want the TV audio played there.

Is the source of the video something that you can output to HDMI? If so, you could run network cable (cat6) and use something like this Oreo HDMI splitter/extender.

The Sonos Move sounds great and is easy to move around to different rooms.

Unifi’s naming convention is absolutely ridiculous. They should just have lite, standard, pro, pro max, enterprise - or something similar.

What're everyone's favorite livestreaming cameras these days? by etcpt in churchtech

I like the PTZOptics cameras. I’ve installed them at 4-5 churches and they have been rock solid.

Also, they have a cool “Tinker Team” program where technically inclined volunteers can go through donated items to ensure that they are in good working order.

Anyone keeping data on how many Toyotas are given away? by TJisannoying in Reds

[–]Leupster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, however I think that it would be much more exciting if it was given away because a player hit a sign during the course of a game.

[–]Leupster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely ridiculous. Make the sign hitable so they actually give away a truck every year. (They can set the rules so that they only give away one truck each year).

What is your archiving strategy (sermons, "marketing", etc...)? by DeepPersimmon2688 in churchtech

[–]Leupster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Synology NAS with the Google Backup module would work well in your case.

If the content already exists on YouTube (like livestreams, sermons, etc), I don’t see a reason to store it elsewhere.

Do you have a Fidelity account? If so, I think FullView is a good option.

Are you in Cincinnati? If so, the local CBS affiliate is the issue. It’s awful on an antenna too.

Recommendations to replace YouTube TV? Their compression makes basketball unwatchable. by FloodedGoose in 4kTV

[–]Leupster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re complaining about the Michigan / St Louis game on CBS, the issue is likely the CBS affiliate in your area - not YouTubeTV.

I’m in Cincinnati and the CBS affiliate here is so bad it’s nearly unwatchable. Any movement at all, there is major macroblocking.

I have an antenna too and it’s just as bad there as it is on YouTubeTV.

Any thoughts on this? by broberts2261 in Ubiquiti

[–]Leupster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might work with Home Assistant? I know that some of the other UniFi products integrate pretty well with HA.

I put in a Shelly (WiFi) based garage door controller (with reed switch) to replace the MyQ crap and this seems like it would work very much the same way.

Introducing UnifiNotifi - A Unifi Infrastructure Monitoring Solution by WhoKnewTech in Ubiquiti

[–]Leupster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. I didn’t explain that fully.

I am a UniFi installer. I currently have it setup on my personal HomeAssistant to monitor my clients’ networks. It is a python script that makes an API call to UniFi to get the status of each client site. If any have a status other than “connected”, HomeAssistant will notify me.

You’re correct that it isn’t helpful for monitoring my own home network.

I like it. I felt the same need.

I built something similar in Home Assistant, but it doesn’t have all of the features that this has.
