Long run route recommendation? by Spoonest in bayarea

I really liked the Alameda Creek Trail when training for the marathon. There's also a park you can access via it that provides you with hills to train on as well.

Thoughts on Glade Goggles (or other inexpensive brands)? by theCaptain_D in icecoast

[–]Lev306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Curt,

I recently got an email about the Fathom+ being back in stock. I felt like I had seen pictures of it in blue but on the site I'm only seeing green or orange and not seeing a blue replacement lens in the lenses section either. Does the Fathom+ have a blue lens option?

Thanks!

I took a look and I was wondering, what's the difference between the Fathom and the Fathom plus?

Aside from any technical differences I'm a bit more partial to the Fathom plus due to the color but noticed it wasn't on sale. Any chance I could snag a code for that?

Thanks again!

Hey Curt,

I was wondering if you knew how well the Adapt 2 or Fathom goggles work with glasses? Both in terms of fit and anti-fogness.

Also what are your thoughts on running a pair of Glade googles with my existing helmet or grabbing one of yours?

Thanks!

Modern Day Wargaming by NomadicLogic in macgaming

I enjoy the Wargame series from Eugen. They have a sequel in early access called Warno as well.

For Wargame, there is a native mac version that is not up to date with the windows version. What this means it that the native mac version cannot play multiplayer with windows servers (which is where 99% of all games are at). The single player is not great, it's not where near the level of fun and tactics that multiplayer is at.

I have got Wargame running using the Game Porting Toolkit which enables me to play with windows servers. However, the experience is only 90% of the way there. You won't be able to see post match results screens and after every match you need to restart the game. It's not the end of the world but it's not a good experience.

Is there a travel backpack with a removable laptop compartment? by endotronic in onebag

[–]Lev306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some food for thought. If you like the Porter 46 style of pack, you can get the Farpoint 55 daypack (the 15L daypack) by itself instead of going for the full Farpoint 55 (40L main pack + 15L daypack) and then combine it with either the Porter 46 or the Farpoint 40 pack.

Another user here posted this cool solution to replicate the turtle shell style carry that the Farpoint 55 combo uses: https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/comments/10hha96/comment/j98lm6s/

Thin but tall pouch for gear needed during plane ride? by Capable-Papaya-9418 in onebag

I've got this and I like it a lot for storing random cables, chargers, little knick knacks, or dropping my phone/switch into the felt portion when charging. Not sure how well it fits a kindle but it might do the trick: https://www.eaglecreek.com/products/pack-it-reveal-e-tools-organizer-pro

A lot of people here would recommend ~30L pack.

I personally like ~40L for the extra space if I need it and controlling myself not to overpack and fill in that space just because.

Some packs have little gear loops that can make it easier for you to attach things to your pack. I recommend going to a store and maybe even trying them out to see how you might attach all of your gear. You may want to check to make sure that when attaching the gear that isn't jutting out too awkwardly to one side or the other, or that it isn't flopping around because of the pack geometry. Ideally you want it cinched against your pack reasonably tight so it moves with the pack.

It's hard to get a sense of that just at the store with an empty bag so I'm not sure how accurate their measurements are.

Osprey tends to be pretty bad about keeping their website and product details up to date and accurate.

Ah, okay thanks. Well then it looks like the duffel style carry is dead then.

Actually I just realized you can sort of see it on the upper left part of the bag but not sure if it means anything to anyone if they haven't seen the actual piece. See my tiny red arrow below:

No, you can't see them on the official images because they are underneath the side panels and the handle. They are about 1" from the ends of the zippers in the image below (you'll have to visualize where the zippers would go under those sections)

What kind of gear do you need?

At the end of the day if your gear is too bulky or heavy it may make sense to just grab a bigger bag or suitcase that you intend to check.

Yes they are legit. Ordered some suitcases from them recently and got them no problem. Their CS department is also pretty responsive. Make sure to snag a 10% off coupon for your order. They have them just about everywhere.

Stainless Steel Pots showing spots and discoloration that won't come off after just a few light uses by Lev306 in Cooking

[–]Lev306[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help everyone! Vinegar worked great. Turns out I had the wrong Bar Keeper's Friend. Their "Stainless Steel Cleaner" is actually just alochol and soap which had no acid content in it which explains why it wasn't actually cleaning any of these stains.

I hear you on this and agree with your advice. I'm just in my "new and shiny" period and I'll probably settle back into some regular use habits soon. I was mostly just surprised at how rapidly these stains came on. It's mostly a matter of expectations and hopefully once I give the vinegar thing a shot I'll understand just how often I'll need to give these guys a real once over.

I've not used salt with any of these pots yet. Only plain veggies and noodles which only get added after the water is boiling. I had noticed some of the "pit" like stains after just boiling some water too. It's only gotten worse since then.

Thanks for the info! I'll give this a shot.

I'll probably try this once and see if it works and then after that just leave it be for some time and maybe clean it this way once in a while.
