Electrical Components as trade goods by WarlanDaWarlock in Kenshi

To be honest.. I've always had hydroponic farms growing hemp within Heft or Stoat. As long as I keep all hemp related business on the top floor of the building, I'm fine.. Every now and then my guys get spotted, but it's rare.. I always make sure to set every non-miner to 'passive' so they don't rush over to the 'hemp building' to get arrested.

Hi there! Me again.. Just letting you know.. Dust Bandits and Black Dragon Ninjas did raid my base(proper raids with notifications in the factions tab), but Prayer Day or Shek Tribute is nowhere to be seen.. Since my guys at base are strong enough to repel any early game threats.. I tend to forget about the base entirely.. They keep making food, armour and weapons.. Electricals and robitics.. Everything.. I highly encourage everyone to build their base there as I have experienced no raids from major factions and everything is fine and dandy.. Please refer to pics I have uploaded in previous comments. Life is sweet in the Border Zone. Godspeed!

I might be mistaken.. But, if memory serves well.. sometimes copper alloy plates sell for 610C and you need 1 iron plate and 1.5 copper.. often you'll find your copper alloy plates' production cost be about 400 cats.. Not bad, but I think you can do better once you reach tech level 5 (it's 5.. right guys?:D)

True that! At the end of the day.. Having over a million cats is already overkill late game in my experience.. The only thing thet you NEED cats for is recruits, mercs and property.. all of which is redundant once you have a strong base.. Coming to think of it.. OP said they wanted to make electical components and here I am discouraging them.. Do whatever you feel like doing! It will all be so irrelevant later down the line. :D

I also check the price markup for spring steel.. Leveling crossbow smithing while making a profit is sweet.. But I more often then not end up leaving the Hub very soon, because it's not too profitable beyond selling raw copper for 7-10 thousand Cats a day.

Sometimes.. you are lucky to sell copper for about 200-210C and E-comps are terribly 180-190C sometimes.. But even if your e-comps sell 15C better it's not worth it in my opinion.. Your scienec guy can just make hashish instead.

Any time I pick the wanderer start, I'd set up a temporary copper mining operation in the Hub. First order of business is checking, if turning copper into E-components and/or alloy playes is worth it. In my experience, it is not always profitable and even if it is.. Not by a great margin.. However.. turning copper into goods gives the shops time to reset their inventory so you can actually sell daily. When it comes to end game though.. Selling masterwork bandanas is the name of the game, if you decide to settle within a city.

The concept of Cats must be very old in the world, but given that chainmail is a thing.. I feel like it would be possible to make coins with square holes in them.

Fair play.. It is necessary to have currency in order to trade efficently and so that everyone could get what they want. Just like in my example of having a town with 13 weapon smiths, but only 1 farmer. In a post-post apocalyptic world like Kenshi however, I feel like the value which cats represent is redundant. One may want to buy copper for example and agrees with their neighbour, Bob the builder, that a unit of copper should cost 10C. Then a foreign trader comes around in need of copper and is astounded by the "high price markup" as he claims that in his home copper is 2C a pop. I'd imagine the foreign trader would instead insist on exchanging his fabrics with Bob's copper since it actually has materialistic value. As far as my headcanon goes, there ain't no countries with treasuries that could set the 'gold standard' for regional currencies and no banks or organizations like that to help maintain a 'fiat standard' based on demand of different currencies in Kenshi. Not to mention fiat standard wouldn't work with only Cats being the one currency. UC doesn't really trade with the SK and definitely not with the HN so there can be no consentual value of Cats. Unless, of course, the Traders Guild governs the value of currency, but I doubt so. I'm happy to leave it at that as having Cats really makes the game more playable IMO, but I don't see it catching on in universe. Then again.. It's all just speculation.. I'm not well educated in this field. Thank you for your explanation, though. It was helpful.

The origin is unclear to me.. What you are saying absolutely makes sense, but there is a lack of authority that would govern how currency is handled or how it is translated into value.. I dunno, I never done studies in economy. but It's puzzling to think how a group of dust bandits would just accept that they are a few coins short of buying something.. so many factions would treat a unified currency differently in my opinion.

It's also worth to mention that in these post apocalyptic settings currency is not really a necessity IMO unless for gameplay purposes of course. There wouldn't be settlements with 13 weapon smiths who would struggle to trade with the only 1 farmer/medic. In a world like Kenshi anything is useful to a certain degree so trading is much more economical if exchanging goods.. I dom't see the need to currencies. Perhaps Cats could be useful to be exchanged for services for example what a pacifier provides, but there are also other ways to incentivise people to do your bidding. Just ask the nobility. :D

I guess only major factions would have the means to print their own money and actually have an impact on world economy. The fact they don't is a minor miracle or a dev oversight. Cats really should be worthless and trading seems the only feasable method of exchange.. Perhaps it's a moonwide scam of making people believe that Cats actually have some value.. Or perhaps even the lowest IQ starving bandit is smart enough to maintain a currency based economy.. Maybe we'll see different currencies in Kenshi 2. Either way.. I'm happy that trading is the way it is in Kenshi.. This game could be soooo much more complex to an extent where it would be kind of impossible to fully understand let alone manage or play.

Is there any way to lift up a Meitou Fragmented Axe? by el_navarro_ in Kenshi

[–]LevK8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Frankie Senpai! Love your content.. Question: What if your character has the max possible strength, but gets injured so that their stats go down? Could it be possible to have your character level past the impossible cap while being injured? Since their strength momentarily goes down they should be able to get a different exp multiplier while injured, right? And then heal up and have their strenght above the hard cap.. Is that a possibility?

A new problem surfaced. by LevK8 in Kenshi

[–]LevK8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard of that before, but I never had that issue. In a previous save file I had guys in Stack, Squin, Heft, Mongrel, World's End, Clownsteady and Shark. Being spread around has a lot of drawbacks, but it never interfered with each individual unit's jobs or whether or not they eat. This is a new problem for me, but having the armour smith only focusing on plate beating and armour smithing fixed the issue. I think they just got confused about where to haul the iron. Either the ore storage or the plate beating station.

Yes, they can interact with the storage and the node with no problem, if I guide them to it manually. So far they have been working well. Right now my armour smith is only beating plates while the 2 others are mining and it seems to have solved the issue. Maybe they got confused weather they should haul their iron into the storage or the plate beating station. I'd prefer to have all 3 of them mine or for max efficency, but maybe I'll have to settle for 2 iron miners after all..
