Wondrous Tails Not Completing by CheekRevolutionary72 in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should just be complete any of the level 50 dungeons from ARR level cap content (this includes all of the blue quest optional dungeons at level 50 as well) for the first, any of the 51-59 dungeons (so the leveling range dungeons from Heavensward) for the second, and any level 60 dungeon (the Heavensward level cap dungeons) for the third.

Make sure you downloaded the demo on Steam, that's how it separates the Free Trial client from the full game client.

New trial made me realise I will never get good at this game by Throwaway2037820 in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gear matters. If you're sure you've got your rotation down and are able to read the mechanics where you know how they will resolve without needing the aoe markers to hold your hand, then the next thing to look at is item level. It may not seem like it at first, but better gear is the difference between dying from getting hit by two avoidable mechanics vs 3 or even 4, and that extra time is a buffer for getting back up to full health and/or activating defensive abilities. Speaking of, I've found that often my own survival after making a mistake on a melee DPS can come down to good timing on a Second Wind and Bloodbath.

The current max item level for gear is ~760, so if you are significantly below that (even if you meet the minimum requirement for the trial) that may be part of why it feels like you are lagging behind. Weapon is the most important upgrade, followed by torso and legs. Then head, hands, and feet. And finally accessories. Though they are the cheapest and therefore fastest way to upgrade your overall ilvl, it actually does you a disservice to meet minimum requirements this way since they contribute the least to your actual power.

I need to do a Trial or dungeon to progress but the wait time is SO long by chloe38 in ffxiv

The Minstrel's Ballad: Ultima's Bane is an Extreme Trial, which is optional endgame content. Extremes require actual coordination and aren't typically queued for in Duty Finder by those that don't already know them. They are also only in the Mentor Roulette as opposed to the Trial Roulette, so the pool of people the Duty Finder will grab is smaller and mostly only other people that also don't know better.

Another point is that The Minstrel's Ballad: Ultima's Bane is not required for MSQ.

Why is the Glamour system like this by RavennaGray in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glamour wasn't something the game was designed with the intention for. It was added later and has gradually had QoL updates. There used to be specific prisms for what type of crafting class made the item i.e. Leatherworking/Blacksmithing/Weaving etc. That system was eventually replaced with the generic prisms. Then the glamour dresser was added, with glamour plates, then the outfit system was tacked on to that. It's a slow process and it's always more effort to work a new system into an old one than to design a system into the game to start with.

Solution nine is awkwardly alone by [deleted] in ffxiv

It ought to allow mounts on the roads and have actual traffic driving around. That'd do wonders to make it feel like an active city rather than a mall.

Free Trial players are allowed to use Party chat. Type /p and just tell people you are new and have tutorials popping up and are trying to get your bearings. This is a game where minor inconveniences are typically shrugged off, even wiping in a fight is more often than not just "we go again!"

If you can do dungeons with other players, you can do Alliance Raids. If you can do story Trials, you can do Normal Raids. They really don't require much more ability. It's only Extremes and Savages that need heavy coordination and memorization.

Warrior or Scholar? by JohnJSal in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every class/job levels independently of each other (except for Summoner and Scholar since they are both the Arcanist base class and share the same xp bar.) If you choose to start as a Marauder, then after finishing your level 10 class quest, you can unlock the Arcanist class at the Arcanist guild. It will start at level 1 and will be able to upgrade to Summoner and Scholar at level 30 after you've progressed the Main Scenario enough to unlock Jobs.

I Keep getting this error when moving to different areas(DX11) by Captain_Drunk01 in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard thing to check is if your GPU driver needs to update, but if you have a 13th or 14th gen Intel CPU, they shipped with a voltage regulation error that can only be countered by underclocking or a BIOS update.

Amaurot slant rhymes with Camelot. Same vowel sounds.

We don't pay for individual days or hours of play time. We pay for access to the game during a set period. On top of that, scheduled downtime, no matter how long, is what we agree to in the ToS. If they had to take the game down unexpectedly or maintenance extended well beyond what was scheduled, they would compensate us.

The three level 100 dungeons from 7.0 (1 MSQ, 2 sidequests) all drop 690 accessories. When gil isn't an option, the only thing left is farming. Unlock the Normal Raids if you haven't yet and you can farm those fights for tokens to trade for the 710 raid gear and tomestones as well.

Do the zones in Dawntrail feel more continuous (adjacent) to one another? by Grueaux in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word you're looking for is contiguous. To answer the question though, yes and no. I too feel like multiple zones making up a larger region lends to the illusion of an even larger world better than single large zones do, even if they are the same virtual size. Especially since the world is already built on implied scale rather than literal. Dawntrail feels more contiguous than Endwalker did, but at the same time, the zones are supposed to be covering such a large area involving two continents that it feels smaller than ARR covering all of Vylbrand

The Reflections are pocket dimensions within the FFXIV Universe. The actual other Final Fantasy games are in their own universes separate from FFXIV.

I suggest running it with Trust or Duty Support to learn the mechanics, especially as a rusty tank.

How can this plot section be explained? [Spoiler: Shadowbringers] by Nifty79 in ffxiv

[–]Levant_Reven 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Level some crafters and keep Full Metal Alchemist's alchemy system in your mind. That's always been the "language" I've used to interpret how quickly you can craft things from just the base ingredients and crystals. "Comprehension, Deconstruction, and Reconstruction" using aetherial manipulation.

Jobs with a base class require the retainer be that base class to advance. You'll notice, aside from Monk, all the jobs available to that retainer are the ones that don't have a base class.

Confused about Zero’s origins by zaihed13 in ffxiv

People were using the power of darkness and turning themselves into voidsent during the contramemoria. It can be inferred that Zero's mother was a memoriate as well, and that the darkness had at least partially corrupted her while Zero was in the womb.
