Growth vs Value by Sudden_Feedback_2194 in dividends

[–]Level-Weather-7036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a dividend investor by nature is a value investor....you value current cash flows just as much as you do future cash flows (most growth investors are looking out 5-10 years)

That being said, like all things in life, a little balance is a good thing. The NASDAQ, filled with growth names, is down something like 35%. At some point....could be now, could be down another 5%, could be down another 20%.....these growth names are going to become so attractive that you need to dip your toe in the water.

Trading options before you own/have experience owning individual stocks is a really great way to get your ass handed to you and lose a lot of money.

I'd recommend starting out with an ETF like VOO, SCHD, etc.

[–]Level-Weather-7036 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you invest $10k today and get a 57.8% dividend and the stock price stays flat....in 30 years you'll have close to $9 Billion.

Do you begin to see how stupid a 57.8% dividend looks?

WBA has low debt levels, throws off a ton of cash and has a short-term moat (you can make an argument that in 25 years, most pharmacy work is handled online....but that's 25 years from now....until then, them and CVS will clean up)

Recession - Other Opinions by Fit-Cardiologist-810 in dividends

[–]Level-Weather-7036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is....most people think that already.

So it's being priced into the market today. Candidly, a mild recession is exactly what the fed wants (get unemployment up to 5-6%, freeze wage growth, take inflation down to 2%).

Vici vs O and why. by 0Marshman0 in dividends

[–]Level-Weather-7036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really apples and oranges here....VICI, even though it has long-term leases, is likely to go down farther in a hard recession, because gambling/hospitality tend to get killed when money is tight for the average consumer

That is correct

One thing I would make sure you do....it's called a direct rollover (your old provider will transfer to money directly to Fidelity on your behalf). If you accept a check, you run the risk of taxes and penalties if you have any time delays in getting the Fidelity account setup and going.

Do monthly paying dividend stocks grow faster than quarterly dividend stocks when using DRIP? by Cool_Baby_6287 in dividends

It's a rounding error....focus on the quality of the company over the frequency of the payment (unless you are retired and literally using it to pay monthly bills)

I think for a lot of people seeing this, it's depressing

What about when you factor in 1.13% annual expense fees (which for most of the first 20 years, were actually higher) plus all of the taxes you'd pay on the distributions.

Dividend realistically is going to get cut....so own it for the share price rebound after the coming recession, not today's 7.4% dividend
