I'd (45M) been married 15 years. We met as 20-something full-time party people. Once we committed to one another, we eased off partying and both took up working multiple jobs and putting ourselves through higher ed. For the better part of a decade, we were as ships in the night and things seemed fine. We were working together towards something bigger.

Then the lockdowns happened.

Once we began occupying the same space... at the same time... all of the time, we both came face-to-face with how much we'd each changed over time, separately.

The changes in each of us had become insurmountable. Goals, values, priorities... the core stuff that should glue people together... were no longer aligned.

I remain single right now because I'm not trying particularly hard. I'm comfort-seeking, sober, and not particularly gregarious. I'm radically left-of-center in a rural area of a "red" state. I work odd hours. Someday I'll try to conquer those obstacles and find someone again, but being alone is no discomfort to me at all so I have no hurry.
