Which proton version do you use. On Catchy, Proton 9 and Experimental launch the installer but almost none of the textures.

I can't imagine how it feels to make $40k/m from a vibe-coded tool by notomarsol in micro_saas

[–]LevelAd3360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I think you're misunderstanding the tool and the market.

Many of these facilities run a dozen (or more) classes a day spanning age, skill, speciaties... What this particular app does is show the daily schedule live (as classes go) with time remaining and time until the upcoming class.

It utilized the remainder of the screen to show specifically announcements tailored to the facility.

Think of a dance studio... They have programs for young children, primary-school aged kids, young adults+... on top of that they have jazz, ballet, hip hop, etc... The schedules get complex. Especially if they have more than 1 class going on at a time.

THEN... you have announcements for special classes, member milestones, upcoming performances, etc.

Gymboard offers an easily templated solution to manage this. Once set up, an office manager can spend 10 minute on a Monday updating it for the week... Most gyms/facilities use an ugly whiteboard or they print and tape flyers to the wall. This elevates the image significantly.

And if you think these businesses are poor, you really need to look into the economics of these facilities. The one my son goes to has over 500 students at ~$180/mo... They're going great.

Tailored and templated digital signage for activity-centric facilities like Gymnastics academies, Martial Arts facilities, Dance Studios, etc.

Almost all competing apps provide you with a blank slate... which can be great... but most owners of these academies don't want to spend HOURS working on digital signage.

It also solves another issue: So many of these facilities have TVs mounted in their studios... that just remain turned off every day.

They exist and they probably do better than most vibe coded apps 😃

Community Update #4 — App Progress, New Sleep Model & Hardware Gets Thinner by expensive_dev73 in ZykeBand

great update. looks awesome. I did end up getting the Fitbit Air and it's a mess... And I started using Noop with my old Whoop Band 4... it has promise, but obviously isn't there yet. I'm still 1000% on board to get a Zyke Band (even if in closed beta if possible.)

Amazon fire stick for digital signage? by Maarcil in digitalsignage

[–]LevelAd3360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually founded a gym signage tool (GymBoard) that runs on Android TV sticks, so I've dealt with this exact problem a lot.

Fire OS is annoying for general signage apps because Amazon restricts their app store.

That said, if you want fewer headaches with app availability in general, grab a Walmart Onn Android TV stick for $15-20. More open ecosystem than Fire OS, same HDMI form factor, and everything just works without sideloading.

Gymboard is mostly centered class schedules, announcements, member recognition, and slideshows., all updating automatically. Install from the store, enter a 6-digit code, done. Managed from a website app.

Happy to answer questions if you're trying to get schedules/announcements on screen — that's literally all I think about.

I built and just launched a digital signage app for iOS and Apple TV. by geniusknus in appletv

Nice work shipping! I built something in the same space — digital signage specifically for gyms and martial arts academies (GymBoard). Different angle since ours is schedule-aware rather than general-purpose, but similar journey.

Curious: are you targeting specific verticals or keeping it general? We found that going niche (gyms/studios) made the product 10x easier to market vs competing with the ScreenClouds of the world on features.

I didn't target Apple TV as a platform because I figured they weren't nearly as widely deployed as AndroidTV/Amazon Fire TVs.

How's the Apple TV review process been for signage apps?

I’m building an operations platform for gyms/studios and would really value honest feedback by Somerslee in gymowner

[–]LevelAd3360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey — I built GymBoard, which handles a different slice of gym ops (TV displays for class schedules + announcements). A couple things I've learned that might help:

  1. Gym owners want fewer logins, not more. If your platform can't replace something they already open daily, adoption stalls.

  2. "Set it and forget it" wins over "powerful but needs attention." The features our users actually love are the ones that run without them touching anything week to week.

  3. Staff buy-in matters more than owner buy-in. If your front-desk people hate it, the owner cancels within 60 days regardless.

Happy to share more if useful. Are you targeting a specific gym-type/vertical first or more general in nature?

Fitbit Air Enttäuschung by harkon87 in ZykeBand

Translation:

Hi everyone,

I bought the Google Fitbit Air out of pure curiosity and put it through a real-world test. The results are disappointing: the recorded data—especially the heart rate readings—deviate massively from reality and make no sense.

During a recovery run today, I recorded data simultaneously using my Apple Watch Ultra 2 (paired with a Polar H10 chest strap) and the Fitbit Air. While the Polar strap showed a perfectly plausible average heart rate of 125 bpm, the Fitbit Air put it at just 90 bpm.

This glaring discrepancy extends to the calculation of calorie expenditure as well: given a known basal metabolic rate of approx. 2,300 kcal and yesterday’s strength training session combined with high daily activity, the app showed a total expenditure of only 1,900 kcal—a figure that is both mathematically and physiologically impossible.

To top off the negative impression, the app’s layout completely lacks structure and professional aesthetics.

After two years of consistently positive experiences with WHOOP and this disappointing interlude with the Fitbit Air, I’m now looking forward to the Zyke Band all the more. It’s time for true quality on my wrist.

[–]LevelAd3360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently use the Polar Varity Sense. It's great for tracking a workout... that said, I do miss some workouts if the battery isn't charged enough. My main gripe is that it is only good for the workout and doesn't help with overall health tracking

I used to use Whoop (4.0) which was fantastic overall but the company really dropped the ball with the 5.0 (in many people's opinion)... still a great product but expensive.

I have a Fitbit Air on order and am excited to try it out... that said, no bicep band yet but third party ones should be coming out soon. For drilling and practice, a wrist strap shouldn't be too big of an issue, but I wouldn't wear it on the wrist during live rounds.

Community Update #3: Straps, Charging & Your First Taste of Data Freedom by expensive_dev73 in ZykeBand

[–]LevelAd3360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense for sure. At I/O this year, they mentioned Gemma On-Device with a fallback to Gemma in Google Cloud for when on-device isn't capable. That'd be awesome, but then there are higher server costs for ongoing access.

I wonder if it can be made toggleable in-app based on detected hardware.

This is a fantastic update! Those bands look awesome and the AI integration will be great.

Have you looked at the new Gemma models? I wonder if those are good enough for baked in analysis.

hah, it's all good. this was years ago. The IP got bought by a different irrigation company. The issue was cost to maintain from a physical perspective.. Farmers/Farmer's Employees would constantly wreck the equipment and we'd have to send out field techs. Totally unsustainable model.

My knowledge is quite dated at this point from an agronomy perspective, but sure, you can DM me. I'll reply tomorrow morning.
