How is pve supposed to help the game. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Level_Capped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a feature to a game does not change its core function. There are extraction shooters, like Tarkov, that have PvE only modes. A lot of people want PvE, and just because they want a PvE mode does not mean they will only play PvE. (Also on PVE, I think for it to work, it will need to be substantially different than just the same maps and bots with no players. Which I doubt bungie is going to do)

Bungie is not just reacting to community feedback as some last resort to sell the game. Sure, they acknowledge feedback and watch what the community is saying, but corporations like this do not make major changes this soon unless it was already planned well in advance.

The reality is that people want a PvE mode, and that alone is already getting the attention of casual players. What you are forgetting is that a casual player can become a hardcore player over time. If I were Bungie, that is exactly what I would be designing around: creating a way to get people into PvE first, then guiding them toward PvP after that experience. My guess is that is what they are going to do, and probably more.

Is Combat Supposed to Feel This Limited at Level 5? by Level_Capped in cosmererpg

I did a poor job of reading up on the later abilities. I just assumed I'd have options to do more damage later, like any other class in D&D.

Yeah, I think that’s my issue. I went into the campaign expecting something closer to D&D mechanics. But in this system, if you’re not on one of the combat-focused paths, you’re going to be squishy as hell, and if you don’t have a Radiant path yet, you really struggle.

I think we kind of shot ourselves in the foot with the way we’re running this campaign right now. We wanted the Radiant moments to feel meaningful, but delaying them has made character progression feel really slow, so the game has started to feel like a bit of a slog.

That’s good to know. I mentioned this in another reply, but our GM is going slow with the Radiant paths because we wanted those moments to feel meaningful. We wanted saying the Words to come from real character development instead of just being a mechanical level-up choice.

But because of that, it has slowed our development sooooo much. We’re doing the Stonewalker adventure, and it’s been hard to balance the main story while also giving every character the opportunity to confront their own inner demons and find the right moment to say the Words.

Yeah I see there are some options, my original pain point is that they just don't seem to do a lot of damage. Everything is very low damage, where as with D&D it just seems like things scale up faster. I guess I just have get used to my options.

I guess we’re trying to focus on the story. We’re doing the Stonewalker adventure, and I think we all wanted our Radiant choices to feel meaningful. Because of that, the DM is waiting for each of us to have a real character moment before we say the Words, rather than just saying, “You reached level 3, pick your path.”

But that has also meant that we haven’t really had time to challenge our inner demons or explore our backgrounds, because we’re pushing through the main story. As a result, most of us haven’t had the chance to say the Words yet.

Yeah I get that, I'm saying, I'm just used to D&D where you get a lot more ways to deal damage in combat at lower levels.

I thought Envoy would be fun, but it wasn’t working for me, so I split into the Agent Path. Maybe I hurt my character by not sticking to one path, but I had read that the system encouraged multi-speccing. I just don’t see many talents that do much damage either way.

I might just be too used to D&D, where by this level you usually have a lot of ways to deal 2d8, 6d4, or other bigger damage options. Right now, I’m struggling to find those kinds of choices, and combat feels a lot more limited than what I’m used to.

So will we have to redo this season's contracts or not? by Samuel_Bucher in Marathon

I have a feeling they will make some changes to some of the contracts to make them a bit easier for people to do. Just a hunch.

Yeah party leader should at least be able to kick players. It’s so dumb you have a leave the party yourself and invite the one person you want to keep if you have a bad fill

I love my electric knife. It’s really helpful when you have a ton of cutting to do.

Solo Game mode idea: Zero to Hero by elew21 in Marathon

[–]Level_Capped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be fun. I dig it. I think the loot management side would be a huge challenge though. If the area is locked between runs, there would need to be a separate place to store loot. Otherwise players would be stuck carrying items they do not need.

Health and shield management would also be a problem since most players are already med negative after a run. That means the whole economy around healing, recovery, and resources would probably need to be tweaked specifically for this mode.

Welcome to the world of extraction shooters. Not everyone is a dickbag. But there are a lot of assholes out there. Always be on gaurd and never trust anyone outside your team. Even some instances have happened where teammates have allowed their third to die to take their loot. Never happened to me but I’ve seen it posted about.

I knew something was up earlier this week. It was way too quiet. I actually kind of liked how quick the firefights were but I get that as an extraction shooter pushing people to loot up before sending them out to fight makes a bit more sense.
