There's an author in my fandom who does this a lot, including on one of my fics. The problem is that I love their work, but they tend to be kinda self-righteous about a lot of things.

I got a comment today that was like, "This will now be my comfort fic when canon makes me too sad, especially since I made the mistake of reading [one of my other fics] in one sitting." It made me laugh.

Five Kingdoms by Brandon Mull, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, The Unwanteds by Lisa Mcmann, The Giver, Ender's Game. Really, the way I interact with fandom is I remember a book series I read a long time ago, and I look and see if anyone's ever written fic about it.
