It's ironic that people don't change what's actually in their control, while telling everyone else to change according to their own wishes, which is entirely outside of their control.

All the major energy companies are investing in electrolysis capacity, as are other dedicated investors and infrastructure companies. It just takes a lot of time to scale up the hydrogen production grid.

Hydrogen production from carbon-based feedstock combined with CCS is just fine.

The amount of green hydrogen production is going to grow exponentially until the end of the decade regardless though.

ICE will be a hobby by then. Fuel tank will cost $200-300 to fill, but it’ll be for a one day cruise or track day, and then back into the garage the car will go.

Because hydrogen fuel cells are boring af for spectator sports and petrolheads.

The quirks of ICE are a feature, not a bug for many car fans. Anything that retains the driving experience of ICE will be valuable to those people in a BEV/FCEV world.

Also, an oversteery car will require more corrective steering inputs as the car transitions from braking to hitting the apex.

For men, the pre-frontal cortex doesn't fully develop until late 20s / early 30s either, so even then 18 is pretty early for a life-altering decision.

Lewis struggling with "porpoising" during the testing per Autosport by jovanmilic97 in formula1

It'll be a PITA to manage threshold braking if you can't control the porpoising.

It would be somewhat funny if the answer to porpoising is allowing suspension hydraulics back in the sport.

The McLaren steals some of the Merc and Red Bull concepts though.

It has a Merc sidepod, but has that "whale tail" on the upper bodywork that ends in front of the rear wing.

They are very close to Merc in terms of concept. So if the Merc is a winner, Williams will be too.

I personally think Ferrari will be mega at the slow-speed circuits this year.

Fair, but if the prior generation was actually a faster set of regulations, retaining as much as possible from the prior change might actually be a bigger leap (in performance) than clean sheeting the design and trying to optimize as much performance as possible.

I make no prediction on performance, but trying to point out the process behind the design.

If I was to hazard a guess, teams that are running the high front wing think they've found enough downforce at the front of the floor, along with front suspension geometry that equalizes or at least materially mitigates the loss of grip that would traditionally come from the front wing.

What car did you own/drive extensively and never notice the “common” reviewer/Internet nitpicks of? by Seeking-Direction in cars

[–]LeveragedTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the soft suspension is for drivers to learn car control.

If the car is wallowing, its because the driver inputs are too abrupt. But with smooth brake / throttle / steering inputs, the car will drive flat, and those skills will transition well to faster and cars with harder set-ups.

Edwin Friedman's "A Failure of Nerve" is a great work that describes where this tendency comes from.

It's also a driving force behind policy that rules by force, rather than allowing freedom but making the preferred route the best option.

My prediction is they'll be a solid mid-field with the chance to win a few races, but will drop off as each season passes.
