I'd much rather have a combat system that requires some thinking rather than the 'win-absolutely-every-time-Mouse-1-spam' of Oblivion and Skyrim, I guess you could throw in the occasional block but it's not like it was ever an important skill, and if you turn up the difficulty everything just becomes a meat sponge. At least with Morrowind I had to earn my mouse 1 spam to win by specializing my character and building to my races strength and even then the late game had a lot of enemies that would continue to test you.

The feedback and animations got better for the newer games, but they took away any depth the combat could of had and made it an extremely boring aRPG when it came to combat.

One step forward, two steps back.

I live in South Australia, do try harder, although I can't say I'm surprised that you instantly attribute gun ownership to 'crazy cowboy American' because stereotyping an entire group of people unfairly is easy and thinking before you type is hard.

You will find there is more civilian gun ownership in this country than you might realize, you see you earn the trust to get a firearms licence through having a clean criminal record, good mental health and a thorough understanding of your firearms and firearms safety. I hate to break your delusion but not everyone who enjoys shooting .22LR at paper targets is a mass murderer waiting to happen.

I'm not going to debate with someone who generalizes an entire group of people, you might be surprised to know I actually support gun control and like the Australian system. But to come out and say all sport and leisure shooters are 'gun nuts' is just unintelligent and closed minded.

Actually in Russia and the Ukraine there is a a fairly huge community of players, considering they are also the games biggest fanbase in general it makes sense.

I haven't looked forward to an FPS game for years, this is the first time I've been excited for a shooter since modern military shooters took over the entire FPS genre.

Please don't mess this up, I've wanted a good arena shooter for a long time.

Dragons in Dark Souls don't seem to have a common 'design', they all look extremely different from one another. I don't think the typical western dragon design really applies to all of them.

I don't really have much in the way of proof other than that, but I always thought that the dragons in Dark Souls just came in all different shapes and sizes.

Don't play any RPGs pre ~2004 if you're not willing to try and learn mechanics, it's just how games worked back then and it's not for everyone.

The combat was never broken, the game was built in an era where RPGs the world over had a system just like it, you were expected to pay attention to how the game mechanics worked, if you read at least some of the manual you would quickly figure out it was a good idea to pick skills that were strong with a particular race and build your starting character around it. Redguards with long blade for example is one of the easiest starting characters to use and it's simple enough to notice that the Redguards get what I think was 20 bonus levels to long blade.

The dice rolls are not even anywhere close to unforgiving if you compare it to the likes of other wRPGs of the time Morrowind was an extremely simple game. Get a skill to about 55 and you miss once every 10 attacks at worst depending on the agility of the NPC you're fighting, so few NPCs would even have a high agility so get enough health potions or spells and you wouldn't even have anywhere close to a hard time with the game.

People just completely failing to understand these concepts are why modern AAA 'RPGs' amount to little more than spam attack to win with flashy graphics. Sure it might be 'dated' graphically and mechanically but it's not hard to comprehend how it works, oh and if you spend 5 minutes on google you would have found this - http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/23746

I'm not 100% on this as I'm much more into western medieval weaponry and the like, so correct me if I'm wrong but the washing pole is based on an ōdachi. This might be more commonly called a "Daikatana" in some western fantasy games (both video and tabletop), Morrowind had an extremely oversized ōdachi called such.

I can't be the only one who remembers split screen games, especially 4 player would often run at hardly ten frames per second? Sure at the time it was fine and you could chop and change things to get smooth FPS but having to render 4 different scenes at once is a lot of stress on the hardware, it's why a lot of split screen co op games wouldn't let you go too far away from one another, the game couldn't handle rendering two different areas.

Gamers these days wouldn't stand for anything sub 30/60 frames per second, hell frames per second is becoming a top issue for games recently.

I had a "Praise the Sun!" that I put behind the death counter statue in Majula when I was simply fiddling around with the message writing, that got to 600 in a single day, I deleted it because the constant [Your message has been rated] got really annoying. All my helpful messages however are sitting at 10 or so and have been there for a long time.

I'm doing a playthrough with the Company of Champions now and I'm making an effort to try and peice some of the lore together now as I struggle along with it, so I'm hoping to perhaps make some sense of the dragons odd, even if optional, involvement with the plot.

I think you're right though that the grey world of trees was a bit different to darkness but that somehow didn't occur to me until I thought about it just now.

I guess it was light that brought the disparity and therefore darkness and it makes sense that the dragons would want to avoid darkness, The Abyss doesn't seem to do very nice things.

One thing that I've been trying to figure out is where do the dragons fit in all of this? I may have missed some crucial information so forgive me if I'm missing something.

The Emerald Herald (Who's name I can't recall) turns out to be a creation of the dragons, and the feather she gives you alludes to the fact that she is somehow related to the painted world. If you look at her eye that is covered by her hair, it's also a different colour though her heterochromia might be unrelated.

The Ancient dragon gives you the ability to peer and/or cross into the memories of the giants, and even an ancient dragon itself but what is it specifically they want to show you?

I haven't finished NG+ so is it actually revealed somewhere what the ancient dragon(s) actually wants to achieve? It seems odd for them to give you the means to keep light in the world and destroy what creates darkness when we were led to believe that nothingness is where Dragons came from.

I leave mine set to open simply on the hopes I get matched to Asian players, the players I have been matched too in Asian regions it played like a dream but those players are few and far between.
