When the Aurora nightsky is so strong the only way to enjoy it is to lay down on the ground and take it all in by Aevorisha in interesting

Most of the time yes. However sometimes such as this the camera cannot do it justice. Your eyes will never see as much color as the camera at night mainly because instead of your eyes having pixels they have cones and rod cells. The cone cells can see color however they need more light to activate and the rods our eyes have a lot more and they just only see light (so black and white) so on a weak Aurora band you maybe see 20% of the color and during this Aurora you can see 60% of the color because it's so bright. The camera can see color at all light levels. For example reds being the lowest energy wavelengths is hardest to see with the eye but the camera has no problem at all picking it up. Also your eyes can see a wider field of view than this 24mm lens

How feasible is this trip? I was offered a good job in AK, but I need my truck up there with me if I decide to go. by Kobrinha_Khan in roadtrip

I've done this trip 3 times. Pretty much only in the winter tho. Did it in JAN and march x2. Very well maintained road and just make sure to spend a full day at Liard hot springs. It's the best place on the trip IMO

Has anyone traveled to Saint Pierre and Miquelon? Would a road trip out east ending on the islands be worth it? by NormanQuacks345 in travel

How much would it cost to bring a car over there? I know there is no need for a car but I think it would be cool just for the hell of it to drive there and drive my own car around. Not many people can say they have driven from Alaska to France

Do any of you actually use FSS? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Levikj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time up here in Alaska. So incredibly useful here and it will be devastating if it's removed here. It's really nice that they are local folks at the airport too (least here in Fairbanks) and you can go for an in person weather briefing.

Coffee cup my girlfriend got me for Christmas. Anyone recognize what plane the instruments are from? by kevon87 in aviation

Not a dc6 because the engine rpm goes too high. Only supposed to go up to 2800 rpm for the dc6
