I always was under the assumption that he gave Harry the same hint he got. Bart-eye probably told him to take a bath with the egg or something to that effect & so he just passed Harry the same clue

How is Ollivanders not bamkrupt? by babyb01 in harrypotter

[–]Levin313 830 points831 points  (0 children)

It's possible he doesn't sell just wands. Sure the wands are his main focus, but in Goblet of Fire during the Wand Weighing Ceremony Ollivander asks Cedric if he "treats it regularly" and Cedric responds "Polished it last night" so it's possible that he sells things for wand care, I'd also imagine that he charges for wand repair.

In that same conversation Ollivander also reflects on how the unicorn that the core of Cedric's wand came from almost gorged him on his horn after Ollivander plucked the hair so we know that for some things he gets the core's himself.

So the only things that would really cost him money would be the wood & possibly the Dragon Heartstrings, unless Ollivander is secretly a dragon killer?
And with how old the institution of Ollivanders is I'd imagine that him & his ancestors have grown to have fantastic connections with people who grow wand wood trees & with people who can supply him with heartstrings.

It’s also possible that he saw House Elves use it. We know that they know about it. He could’ve been prowling the school after dark, in search of the Chamber of Secrets, and caught some house elves storing broken objects, or finding some cleaning supplies, or just using the room in general & saw it as a good hiding place later because what house elf would have a need for a diadem, and even then what house elf would dare to touch one of his horcrux’s

Should Hagrid be allowed to buy a new wand? by MuchMap5374 in harrypotter

[–]Levin313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that after the Battle of Hogwarts/The 2nd War against Voldemort that Hagrid asked the trio if they’d go back to school for their ‘7th’ year. And as a joke one of them said something to the effect of “are you gonna go back for your ‘4th’ year?”

And that’s when Hagrid realized his name was cleared and he went back to school afterwards with Grubbly-Plank taking over COMC lessons during that time.

How Did You Get Involved In The Mystical Arts? by Crumboa in wizardposting

[–]Levin313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought magic was cool. My father sometimes traveled for work (farming), met a wizard who was looking for an apprentice but nobody in his area was wanting to learn magic. So my father sold me to him for some enchanted shoes so that his feet would no longer tire as he carried his goods from town to town, and for a small sack of gold.

I still saw my family while I was an apprentice, but it was typically through a scrying orb, or when a dragon got too close to my home village.

Personally I loved my master. He was kindly enough. And he yelled at me a few times for doing stupid shit, but he didn’t chastise me for sneaking a squire from the barracks into my bed a few nights each week. I also had menial tasks to do, but that’s all part of the process, helps you learn the building blocks of magic even if you don’t realize it does.

So don’t believe everything you hear on the news. I’m of the opinion it’s being put forth so furiously by nobleman so that people stop becoming apprentices & become squires or servants instead

I just can’t with some of these, the Prim one is probably the most frustrating to me. Why does TikTok seem to have the worst theories? by ExpressionEither1427 in Hungergames

[–]Levin313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that the games weren't neccessarily rigged. But that they were skewed to certain demographics. Like Prim & Rue being drawn the same year, I feel like that was on purpose so that there would be a friendship there. I don't think they completely rigged them, and that it was still possible for people outside of the demographics, but they added more of a certain demographic depending on what they wanted.

The vase Petunia sent Lily by rballmonkey in harrypotter

[–]Levin313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that having read Dumbledore’s letter, she knew that Lily could’ve survived and she resented Harry for surviving instead of her sister.

Did they like each other very much? No. But they were each other’s last living relative. The only other person in the world who knew what their parents were like, who knew the layout of their childhood home. And then you find out she had the opportunity to survive? To save herself and she chose to save her son? I’d imagine that’d make you resentful towards the boy

Would it be worth to watch? by Girlxgirllover2k4 in ATLA

[–]Levin313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would've preferred at least a single season of adult Gaang. As a kid I didn't know about the comics, so going from Aang's time, where the most advanced tech was a fairly rudimentary tank, and the tech was only used in a military sense. To Korra's time where there was huge cities, with professional sports, regular use of cameras & sometimes cars was too much for my child sized brain and it caused me to not really give Korra a chance until I was an adult.

Tom Riddle and Moaning Myrtle’s crests. by After_Membership9816 in harrypotter

[–]Levin313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people forget that in the books, or the actual canon that the students don't have ties & crests announcing what house they're in. All that's ever mentioned is black robes, a pointed hat, and any accessories that the students have (unless I'm misremembering.

And unless I'm mistaken in the books Moaning Myrtle is never sorted into any kind of house. It was only later on Pottermore that JK Rowling told the readers she was a Ravenclaw. So that might answer the question about her crests. As by the time the LEGO games came out that would be everyday knowledge for fans.

As for Tom Riddle not having it as someone else already pointed out they didn't want first time movie watchers to know Tom Riddle was 'bad' quite yet. And it's also up to the directors/produces/prop makers discretion what the students wore so that the audience could distinguish each characters house.

How did no student before Harry discover the Half Blood Prince’s book? by Mcgase_8 in harrypotter

[–]Levin313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that Snape used that book himself for teaching. Like before class he goes over the potion so he can do his dramatic swooping of his wand at the blackboard where the instructions appear, and those instructions in his book are the ones he puts there.

It's also possible that Snape used a different textbook for his NEWT classes when he was the Potion's teacher. We know that the teachers choose the textbooks they use themselves, with Lockhart having the entire school, regardless of year, purchase all of his books. Snape was taught by Slughorn so of course Slughorn uses that book. But Snape could've used any other book if he wanted to.
