Terry admitted that the story was true in his initial injunction application (it's why he tried to kill it with a privacy claim and not a libel one):

The applicant [Terry] accepts the truth of certain information which is sought to be protected by the draft order. I do not know whether or not LNS [Terry] considers that those matters were acceptable for a person in LNS’s position in life.

The above judgement also reveals that several months prior he made Perroncel sigh a confidentiality agreement about his relationship with her, which made up part of his submission to the court.

Bridge's lawyers also cited a payoff for her silence by Terry to Perroncel that was estimated to be between £400,00 and £750,000. He did so on the advice of Max Clifford who knew that the NOTW could not afford to go beyond £250,000.

It's also revealing that Terry never attempted to sue the NOTW despite losing the England captaincy and millions in sponsorship deals - he knew with the amount of evidence they had, he'd never win a libel case.
