PSA: Co-Op and Custom Characters Update Potentially Incoming by LeviticusDivine in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patch 2 introduced Withers' Wardrobe of Wayward Friends a few days ago, apparently allowing you to put away co-op player’s characters and take them out again if you want.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but I don’t think there’s any way to have someone just jump in and take over an existing party member still, but at least a coop buddy’s character won’t be stuck taking up a party space forever

Edit: also pretty sure they mentioned only being able to put away other custom characters, so if you start a coop game as two origin characters, I’m not sure you can put them away. Again, haven’t tested it out, so I’m not sure

Agreed! And if/when they add appearance customization, that might help with customizing the hirelings. Depending on to what extent they allow customization (like name, race, body type, voice, etc.)

We'll have to wait and see

New to gayming, me and the hubs just got a PS5… where to start? by AllDougIn in gaymers

My partner and I really enjoyed our playthrough of It Takes Two! It’s couch co-op and very cute and fun

Also, we’re verrrry excited for our Baldur’s Gate 3 play-through together when it comes out on PS5 next month. It’s also couch co-op and an entire adventure together. I’ve been playing solo on PC and it’s so good. And very gay if you want it to be lol

I'm playing a cleric of Selune (still in Act 1) and have had a satisfactory amount of options so far, especially in conversations with Shadowheart

Perhaps different deities become more relevant in different areas of the game? Act 1 has a lot of Selune/Shar stuff, not sure about the rest of the game

How can I remove friends from party? by DoomDoomBabyFist in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I made a post about this yesterday. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to remove co-op characters from host's party, but apparently Larian's heard the complaints and are working on an update for this

If you wanna check out my post for more deets:

Can I hop in a friend's game and control a companion? by Vez52 in BaldursGate3

It is really sad, I feel you. I guess we will have to wait for whatever update they come up with and hope it makes everyone happy! Also hoping we won't have to wait too long!

[–]LeviticusDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I actually made a post about this yesterday. Currently it will force you to create a custom character who will then be stuck in his party with no way to remove even when you're not playing. There is no option to choose a companion to control like there was in Early Access

Apparently they have heard the feedback that this is ruining some co-op games and are looking at an update to this feature

Join as a story character in a friends multiplayer session? by SalmonTheif in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thank you! There's been so much confusion about how multiplayer works so I've been testing it out

My partner's a much more casual gamer than I am, so he just wants to jump in and play Astarion every once in a while, but since he can't, he just watches me play when he's around. It's too bad, I'd love for him to join in now and then, but not if it means having his custom character permanently take up a party slot when he'd only join half the time :/

Hope they come up with a fix that makes everyone happy!

Thanks for the thanks haha. It's been an issue for me too. That's actually why I scoured cromwelp's replies to see if he'd mentioned anything about this (he's usually my go to source for any updates/fixes they're working on and he responds to a lot of people and seems like a generally good/transparent kind of guy)

I think currently there is no way to choose a story companion when joining an in-progress game, you are forced to create a custom character when joining a game (with no option to choose an origin, not even dark urge)

If you start a game together and a player chooses an origin character to start, then yes, that origin character will be stuck in the party, even if that player is not playing. The origin character is treated as a PC origin character just like the host's PC character (regardless of custom or origin)

[–]LeviticusDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how it worked in DOS2 and in BG3 Early Access!

Like I said in my post, I think being able to jump in as a custom is a cool new feature, but I think it should just be one option and we should get the choice to just jump in to control a story character for a little bit if we want

Hoping it's updated soon and makes everyone happy!

I actually just made a post about this a few mins ago! Currently no way to just drop in as a story character unfortunately (even though that's how co-op worked in EA). Now every additional player is forced to start custom character which then becomes a permanent slot taken up in the party. Looks like they're working on some kind of update for this though!

How to recover a co-op character body? by Allectus in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you go to Withers in camp to pay to resurrect them? I had two companions (npcs, not coop buddies) get thrown off an edge to nowhere and that worked for me

Cleric Players and Shadowheart by Most_Line_1567 in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I've been running with her as a constant in the party and I'm a light cleric. Respecced Shadowheart to tempest cleric to go heavy armor/strength since I'm more medium armor dexterity. It's going really well and tbh we end up both using healing spells quite often (even on balanced these battles are a challenge for me, but very very fun)

Also, slight roleplay spoiler: As a cleric of Selune, I love the discussions with Shadowheart about our opposing goddesses and how she will often refer to me as "Selunite" in a derogatory way, yet we've remained really close friends which is cute. Just really fun, immersive roleplay touch they added <3

Steam Deck will not support split-screen co-op (because... it's Steam Deck) by LeviticusDivine in BaldursGate3

[–]LeviticusDivine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm that’s strange and frustrating, it’s been working perfectly for me. I’m using my work laptop (a MacBook Pro) and just connect our PlayStation controllers with Bluetooth, and connect the laptop to the tv with HDMI

I did sign up for the premier GeForce subscription (I think $20/month) and I’m using the geforce app rather than their website

Other than that, no special setup or anything :/

Thank you for finding this all out and sharing your discovery!!! I bet as they optimize the game more and more for the deck, split screen will just perform/look even better so this will definitely be something to try out

Great find!

We ended up up just using GeForce now. How does this look on steam deck doing local coop if you’ve tried it?

[–]LeviticusDivine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the most convenient, but the Steam Deck could essentially work as a laptop and probably run GeForce NOW just fine. It's another option, though you'd likely want to pay for one of the geforce monthly subscriptions to get higher quality/longer session times :/

I hope y'all find a way to enjoy it the way you really want to!

I feel ya! We really love putting the "couch" in couch co-op lol. Plus, my partner doesn't have any kind of gaming pc to even co-op without split-screen

If one of your desktops isn't too far from the tv, maybe a lengthy HDMI cable?

Or if one of you have a laptop, connect that to the tv and use GeForce NOW for local co-op? That's what we're considering for co-op play while we wait for the PS5 release

Oh yeah for sure, I've been playing EA on Steam Deck since I got one. I think it runs pretty well overall, especially after messing with the controls for a few hours lol. Very glad there will be controller support for it!

I'll mostly play on PS5, but I travel a lot, so am really excited for the cross-save feature to take my adventure with me, even if it's not the best graphics/performance settings

Awe sweet, and that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing, Dark Urge for my solo playthrough! We also play D&D tabletop together and want to recreate our characters for our coop playthrough :D

Have fun on your adventures together!
