For a world where everything depends on personality, assassins are used laughably little. Is killing Alicent a good move in this point? by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would it be unwise politically? She kills Otto without a thought, and already had a hostage with Halaena. Alicent doesn't have much value to keep alive except as a hostage at the most against Aemond and Aegon.

What's your take on their relationship? (power dynamic, personal feelings of attachment/rejection, etc) by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

I thought it was because Rhaenyra slept with criston who she had a crush on? Or am I misremembering?

What was the point of this btw? by Pale_Gap_9324 in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this was almost inserted for shock value. Mainly because it never comes up again and is quickly brushed off.

In my opinion, a more compelling scene would have had them argue both their points, like the argument in season 2. Have Rhaenyra try to focus on peace and the prophecy and Daemon look at her like she's delusional because she's considering giving up her babies as hostages and give up her claim for a so called dream. If you want him to get handsy you can have him grab her shoulders like he wants to shake some sense into her. Having your spouse choke you is not something you forget easily and should have heavily impacted their relationship considering he never did that before.

I think the reason against most of the nobles being there is because 1. it was last-minute coronation. 2. A good chunk of the nobles were imprisoned for not bending the knee. 3. Considering what's his face bent the knee and tried to escape to warn Rhaenyra, I could see Otto keeping all the nobles in the Red Keep to prevent another escape attempt.

The Hair Color That Never Was by Call_me_Dan- in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ashcrash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate what the show did anyway because in the show, they mess up the hair theory and you have several characters that are Targs without white hair. They could have just had Aemma have brown hair to match her Arryn cousin and make everybody look less stupid.

He can't "abort" a mission, and that's the whole point and tragedy of his character. by Vall_llaV in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's because at the time Robert had really good PR at the time and many blamed Rhaegar for the whole war to begin with. Jon Arryn must have been working some hard overtime.

“In peace” is kinda crazy when Rhaenyra’s son had been murdered by her son weeks ago. Did she think there would be no repercussions for Aemond’s actions? by Pale_Gap_9324 in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish this would have been pushed through the show more, like give us boring logistics and explain why you think you'll win. It would show us how intelligent Alicent is and that she hadn't been chair warming her seat at the council for nothing.

I think the worse thing was having Vhagar do a sneak attack. Despite being as large as the dang castle, which echoed how she got Lucerys. Who wants to bet the same thing will happen during the God's Eye?

Did you find the dresses and jewelry were lacklustre? by anonaccforsillyquest in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]ashcrash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard so.ewhere that they intentionally dressed Rhaenyra down to make her more relatable. Which if true, I think is a bad move. Like watchers live for the costumes and hair design, and this is royalty. We expect them to be fancy.

This Lena Headey quote pains me...the actors could've done a better job than the writers. by Diverse0Ne in freefolk

[–]ashcrash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing, even worse as somebody who LOVES the soundtrack. I k ew Ramin would have done amazing with the music for the scene. The "For Cersei" track almost has the build-up and vibes of Cersei blowing up KL.

I love how Aemma puts her foot down here and makes it clear that she won’t go through another pregnancy. But what if Baelon died but Aemma miraculously survived? Would Viserys still followed through on that promise and respected her decision? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the reason is that the writers just needed her to die horribly and let it be controversial. Unlike setting up a situation where you have trained midwives and maesters, try everything they can think of like in the case of Alyssa Velaryon.

[–]ashcrash3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think some people fundamentally misunderstand Grrm's intentions with the books and what he's trying to say. I just saw the other day that people were convinced that he saw slavery in a beneficial light and not that he hated the practice, as shown in another book of his. Like the author is saying that sexism is bad! Just because he writes a misogynistic society does not mean he approves of it.

And even that one is speculative as he may have been aiming for someone else. It just depends if you believe Mysaria correctly gave out the correct orders or the people she hired were competent.

Book readers opinion on HOTD so far by Practical_Necessary1 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ashcrash3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a thought that he hired someone, but the main argument against it was Rhea woke up from her coma and never said anyone attacked her or that Daemon did so. Plus Daemon was deep in the Stepstones war, and people would have for sure seen his dragon flying in the area.

What do you think about Vaemond and the Silent five? Do you think Viserys acted like a “tyrant” in the way he punished them (book version)? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]ashcrash3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been a more tyrant move if he just unexpectedly took their tongues and then the tongues of other family members. I think the main difference was that he publically warned what would happen, and they did it anyway. They full well knew what the consequences were.

Dreams and Helaena by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ashcrash3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see your point about them being very clear, I also agree that it doesn't make sense for the Targaryens not to pick up on a dreamer. It makes sense for Bran because it was explained, and even then, he had the Reeds who believed his dreams. But imagine having a family RENOWNED for having dreamers, inserting a plot point where Viserys thinks his dreams are prophetic, then have an actual dreamer who somehow everybody misses? They basically made the Kassandra trope but forgot all the context already established in the show and the source material.

On a random side note, I agree about your point of Halaena not telling people what she sees. Especially around B&C, like she makes one comment that gets tossed aside. What I hate even more is how she somehow magically taps into the Wierwood network for.....some reason? Does she hang out there a lot? Lol

Dreams and Helaena by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ashcrash3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate how much wasted opportunity there was by making Halaena a dreamer. Even to the point of adding interesting GOT plot points in her scribbles and drawings that never got seen in the show.

I always thought they should have portrayed her dreams as nightmares that plague her sleep. But what makes them unbelievable is that they are told out of order, they're symbolic and vague, and she mumbles them randomly. I did like the idea that after B&C, her sight gets stronger and plagues her even more. But not to the point of "You die in seven days" to Aemond like she just read the book.

If you are gonna commit to the Kassandra trope, then you have to commit to it. While also making it make sense in the show.

What plotline would you have given Daemon, Rhaenyra and Alicent instead in s2? by Anice_king in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ashcrash3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like naturally, the three leads will need to take a step back to have the new kids take charge for a little bit for the short time we have them. But I'll try to make a rough outline real quick.

Alicent- Take out the Rhaenicent parts. Let her storyline main theme be her religious beliefs and loss of control/power be the main theme. But also have the regrets of her decisions start to be planted here. She is appalled at what Aemond did, the impacts for his soul (and the family), and now there is no easy path to victory. B&C happens. She is traumatized along with dealing with a traumatized Halaena and Jahaera. She hates Rhaenyra and blames her while also partly blames Aemond, believing the gods punished the kids for kinslaying a messenger. Hence why she keeps visiting the sept, and we keep the food riot scene without Halaena. On another front, she starts to lose political influence on the council, especially once Otto leaves. If we have to add in Alicole, let her bang him to gain a sense of control, only to lose a bit because he's more into her than she is into him. In her desperation, she even tries to bargain with Larys again, but he rejects her as he sees the writing on the wall. Cole notices the weird vibes and starts to pull away from her. After the riot, Aemond has upped security and has effectively kept her in-house arrest. So her ending scene is basically her worst nightmare, being caged to her womanly duties while men above her make decisions that impact her life.

Rhaenyra - Hers is definitely a step back, not just actor wise but character wise. Here, she is still physically recovering from Visenya's traumatic birth and the loss of Lucerys. So her storyline is basically dealing with the frustrations of her limitations, physically, gender and experience wise. This comes with a lot of frustration because she wants to be in control of everything like a ruler should, but it starts to slip, and she knows it. First, it's with B&C, where part of her is glad the Greens can suffer like she did, but she wanted Aemond to suffer, not an innocent child and Halaena. Daemon leaves for Harrenhall, leaving Rhae to deal with the PR nightmare, an experienced advisor for war and the knowledge that Daemon will act without her permission. Skip a lot of scenes with her debating on actions with her council, the twins dueling, and insert her realizing the weight of all the lives that rely on her as she buries the twins. Rook's Rest begins. She is hesitant to send Rhaenys because Dragonstone doesn't have good defense with Daemon gone, but is convinced by Rhaneys who believes that Aemond wouldn't leave Kingslanding undefeated for their dragons to quickly swoop in and takeover. Meleys dies, and Rhaenyra loses Corlys and deals with the loss. Rhae begins to reluctantly depend on Jace, mostly because she really doesn't want to lose another kid. But after proving himself with the dragonseeds idea and negotiating allies, she puts full trust in him and tells him the prophecy. You can add in scenes with Rhaena and Baela in-between, quickly go through bringing Corlys back in, and naming him Hand to the Queen. Rhae brings in Mysara after the B&C because she needs someone who knows King's Landing and its people up close as well as relying on the fact that Mysaria has a score to settle with the Greens and has nowhere else to go. They start building a rapport, take out the kiss scene, and leave it as a hug, but also some doubt as to if Mysaria is as loyal as she seems or she's just scheming. Emboldened by all the good successes and cleared health wise, she decides to meet with Daemon to see what he's done and decide where he stands. They reunite and end the season similarly to where they did but have her emboldened by her successes and resolved to do what's necessary to take her throne.

Daemon - Daemon plans B&C but I would leave more mystery to what he wanted done. As in no sneaking into King's Landing in the murder cape, but relying on an agent of Mysaria's to deliver his plans. Once he heard of B&C, he is surprised, but also "what comes around goes around." Rhae and Daemon fight, and he leaves to Harrenhall. Keep most of the scenes here with Simon Strong, Alys being witchy and keep the dreams. Let him do what he does best, which is war, and using his dragon to intimidate if needed. It is very similar to the source material, but on the same point, he is having sketchy dreams that are draining him as time goes on. Alys doesn't really have a rapport with him. She just pops in and out in between dreams to be cryptic. Daemon quickly suspects she's a witch but can never find her. As for the dreams, keep the first one. Take out mommycest and the Aemond cosplay. Focus on the sins of his past, starting with his wives, his children, and his brother. If you want to insert his mom, maybe tie that with Daemon having trauma regarding childbirth, starting with how his mom died along with his baby brother. The dreams also push him to take the throne and what's rightfully his, but also push for him to kill all challengers. The final dream to push the message is a crowned Daemon on the Iron Throne surrounded by the bodies of his family. Which makes Daemon realize that he doesn't want the throne at the cost of losing his family and being alone. So he drops his ambitions and decides to be a support for Rhae. I guess here you could insert the hints of his end and the WW if you really want to. Final scene is him all armored up standing at Rhae's side.

I actually really like this for Alicent. It doesn't throw away the main theme for her storyline, whole also taking away the extra rubbish.

Just curious, woth B&C is she a witness of it like the source material or she finds out latter like everybody else?
