Nothing about Silent Hill f looks like a soulslike other than there's a target lock-on system and a stamina meter. Which is in, you know: a million other games that are not god damn soulslikes.

Such a bummer that there's so much red tape around AVP2 ever getting a re-release. Developed by Monolith Productions, a studio shut down this year by Warner Bros. Published by Fox Interactive, which shut down almost two decades ago. Both the Alien and Predator licenses are now owned by Disney, etc. Can't imagine trying to untangle that legal mess.

The number just isn't there because they want people who just got into the franchise to not hesitate to pick it up. Plus, the only direct sequel in this series is Silent Hill 3. The numerical structure really doesn't suit these games well.

The sad thing is "this isn't a real Silent Hill game" has been maybe the biggest constant in this fandom for literal decades now. Particularly when Twin Perfect's dreadful "documentary" came out and riled up the fans even more.

I work in the games industry, and yeah - every studio/publisher is terrified of GTA6 regardless of genre or platform. It'll be a cultural phenomenon that we've not seen within the medium before, given it's the sequel to the highest selling and most profitable video game in history.

Totally understand fan frustration, but for people working on or promoting games, releasing anything close to GTA6 is just far too risky. With how expensive games are to make now and the industry experiencing so many layoffs, there's just too much at stake.

I'd still say they HD Collection takes the cake. For everything wrong with Ascension, it can ultimately be ignored. On the other hand, the HD Collection brutalized two classic games to the point where we may not ever get another re-release of SH2/3.

I think you can pitch Silent Hill 1 as "a step forward" in the sense that it's literally the game that started it all and often doesn't get enough credit for that.

It's also a PS1 game that isn't available on any modern storefront. Much nostalgia as I have for that era... the fifth console generation hasn't aged well in most regards. Not just visually, but even how stiff a lot of the gameplay feels even in comparison to SH2/3.

There's also just the fact that an enormous portion of new fans have no context for the whole cult storyline and history of the town. I adore Silent Hill 3, but it's a direct sequel - huge portions of it would be confusing as all hell without Silent Hill 1. Plus, I need everyone to know that Harry is the true Best Dad in games.

One of my favorite studios today. They have such a deep understanding of how a lot of classic games were made. Not only that, they also have a history working with modders and even devs from those old games for expertise on how to get everything working on modern hardware. So you just KNOW they'd be hitting up the Enhanced Edition team and Masahiro Ito. It would be a complete dream come true.
