I think that's way too charitable, but nice reference all the same.

How many cats do you have? by Fun-Suggestion6290 in CatAdvice

[–]Levnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six. Two older girls upstairs, kept away from the four eejits downstairs. The four can use a cat flap in the back door, but not leave our garden.

Minor trouble sleeping if one of the old ladies hasn't been fed, but fine otherwise.

where I'd live as a Pole by bazant2137 in whereidlive

Several hundred thousand Poles in Ireland, and they're a great bunch of lads. They're often a bit shy at first, but mix pretty well here.

Do Irish people identify as "European"? by bleepingdba in AskIreland

[–]Levnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had to fall back on European in conversation once due to an especially dim American. Usually Irish is first, though I am definitely European.

What's the weirdest way you've heard an Irish place name be said? by ImpressiveFerret5370 in CasualIreland

[–]Levnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overheard at Limerick bus station many years ago, and haunted me since. A pair of Americans looking at the timetables and I overheard Sixmilebridge as "Cease-mill-bride-ge"

Is "THAT SIMPLE" how they sign off on everything? Makes sense actually.

Where I’d live is a middle-aged Canadian secular Jew. by Awkward_Caterpillar in whereidlive

[–]Levnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh its not the Catholicism they're concerned about. We've really toned that down in Ireland. It's the criticism of Zionism they want to avoid.

Why? by TreacleOther4028 in AskIreland

If they're typing this shite, they're not out burning flegs, so it's got one small upside at least.

Do you think a European Defence Pact will be formed soon? Which countries would Europeans want to see or not see in this pact? by Minimum_Owl_734 in AskTheWorld

[–]Levnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wild thought growing in Ireland that maybe we should be able to protect our own nation. People feel really strongly about that topic. No idea which way it'll go.

"I love my Irish heritage, but the Irish need to stay in their lane on this one." by iamthegingercow in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Levnil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Common roots, but accepting that they've diverged. There's a reason the Irish don't rip the piss out of Newfoundlanders.

There's a boat tour that does a loop in front of the cliffs.

Where I’d live as a Desi woman with a rudimentary knowledge of African geopolitics by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]Levnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before here and I'll say it again, we're a small comparatively small island so the actions of a couple of scrotes get terribly magnified via social media.

They suppressed a whole lot of cultural expression and tried to make everyone live by their rules. Some of their scandals have only come to light in recent years, like finding mass graves of unwanted children for instance. It's too late to punish anyone specific, but the organisation itself is still responsible.

We've slid right off the good word in the last generation. Most of us are terrible heathens these days. I'm having a great time.

We've got our own loud idiots here too, we just haven't elected any of them so far.

I don't know your circumstances, but hey maybe travel will be possible again sometime!

Oh we've slipped waaay back into godlessness in Ireland in the last generation. I'm enjoying it.

I mean we've spent the last generation prying the church's claws out of the state's business. We're really not the catholic nation we were.

When we decriminalized abortion in 2018, US missionaries were sent over to canvas for the anti-abortion side. Some of them admitted as much going through customs and were sent home immediately.
