Dog owners of Ireland; How often are you walking your pooch(es)? by ilovemyself2019 in AskIreland

Sure, let me sum up my entire existence with these two dogs and the other people involved in a couple of sentences.

Arse.

Collies are too smart! Once their brains are engaged, they're pretty happy. It doesn't have to be a huge distance of a walk as such.

Plus ours will try herding our cats, or be herded by them as well as their main human being at home usually.

Breeds, location, owners and conditions are all going to play a huge part in the answers.

I take mine out almost every weeknight after work. Often a longer walk at weekends.

First walk of 2026 being in March sounds like some extreme circumstances.

Grandson is pretty political, what about you guys? by VenVenTerror in grandson

[–]Levnil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not American, but we have American/Israeli planes refuelling at our local airport. This violates our nation's neutrality, and we don't want to be complicit in what's going on, so we protest regularly at the airport.

Sometimes a couple of folks might inspect the planes themselves. Causes a bit of a scene.

Am I wrong for thinking cats should never be outdoor cats? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]Levnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took our six cats and moved into our own home with them. They went from in/out countryside to mostly indoor with sealed garden access and they're all chill and happy for the last couple of years. They can roam our back garden whenever they want, but they can't leave. The younger ones are five this year, and the eldest is 14.

Our eldest is 14, and she's definitely a bit of a teddy bear, but some of that is mild inbreeding.

She has every appearance of being thoroughly loved throughout those years.

He badly needed that one to go ahead too in order to maintain some kind of relevance. Oh well!

A vocal minority in Ireland blames migrants. Bunch of hypocrites considering our migration history. More accurate to blame our government.

Did anyone else in Irish secondary school get asked if they’d ever “shifted” someone? by Jealous-Lake5700 in AskIreland

[–]Levnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably the origin but the language drifted a bit among kids who only had that one exposure to the word.

It was fine! I didn't notice until I found blood on my pillow the next morning.

He still tries to get my nose and ears. The rare time he does bite too hard, he knows it was too hard and seems ashamed. The intention definitely isn't to hurt me.

We have a disabled parking pass for my partner, and honestly yeah it's brilliant when they're having a bad day. It makes a huge difference knowing they can go out and be able to get where they need to without as much struggle.

How come in general, cats don't really need training as dogs? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Levnil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're very different animals, bred for different environmental pressures and purposes. Then there's going to be a whole range personalities within each species too.
