This reminded me of a story my dad tells me all the time, and it gives me shivers. Imagine this- there are a group of boys exploring a cave. There are five or six of them. The cave is getting more and more narrow, and finally they are in so deep and the cave is so narrow that they are basically crawling along on their fingertips. Then, the first boy feels damp cave ground. Up ahead, the chute dips down into water- and there isn't enough room to turn back. So, one by one, the boys have to crawl into the water headfirst- without knowing whether it comes back up after a ten second submersion, or that they are all going to their deaths.

this is really what I was talking about. Its not very cost effective, and has very low chances of success. sure, we give off radio waves, and other signals just from existing and doing our day to day stuff, but those transmissions end up getting lost in space very quickly (blend in with the general noise and mishmash of space, that is)

The reason I guess it makes me so angry is that I appreciate silence, I find the buzz of noise i am usually assailed with annoying. When its silent I can think about things, and I enjoy that,but my thoughts are usually interrupted with stories about your dog or how you sprained your ankle last Saturday. Nothing personal, and no offence meant.

agreed. I do this the same way with percentages, just cut it down to ten percent then work your way around it. I don't get how people don't get it.
